    Hello, may I have a quick rundown on what setting you have on the multi meter tool? I'm completely new to this, and there seems to be so many options on the circular dial. Great video!

    • @After7Garage
      @After7Garage  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you! The multi meter is great for various uses. You always set the meter to DC volts when checking. AC voltage is for a home.
      Essentially, I am using the meter to verify I am getting 12v DC before the motor and at the motor. I found here, the switch was not sending the power out to the window motor. But had power going into the switch.

    haven't tried this out yet but my Window seems to be nonresponsive for moving upwards and goes downwards usually. It's given me trouble before when I first bought it in 2016, as I could tell it had the door popped before and has a warp, but replacing the switch and applying lubricant made me feel better about it. As of right now my window has been stuck down since I last needed to lower it. This video seems like great help! But I just find it odd that your switch does the opposite. Responds to Up but doesn't for Down. I'll be sure to respond to this comment if this helps out tomorrow

    • @After7Garage
      @After7Garage  3 роки тому +1

      After what we learned in my video above, it would be more time effective to test the switch and wiring by unplugging the motor and checking for 12v in the up and down position. That should save you time from removing the window regulator and motor assembly if the culprit is just the switch. Good luck!

  • @222Lightning

    Thank You very much. I went to Pull-a-Parts today and pulled a motor and regulator for about 30 bucks. My driver's side does not respond but when it first happened I thought there was slight movement like the window was stuck now nothing. Unfortunately I don't have a way to test the switch.....but I would hate to go thru all that trouble of installing to find out its something else going on. Someone told me I should plug the new motor in first to see if it works before removing motor and regulator in the car now. If that doesn't work its the switch I deduce from your window. Is it possible its a fuse problem? The other three windows work.

    • @After7Garage
      @After7Garage  3 роки тому

      I would take your door panel off and unplug your window motor, and plug it into your used one you just got and test it before install like you said. If it still doesn’t work it’s probably the switch. Unless you have bad luck and the part you pulled is also bad haha. Get a cheap multi meter from the store and confirm you have voltage at the connector to the motor when you press the switch. This will answer all your questions. It is almost never a fuse for an issue like this, that would affect all windows. Good luck!

    I have a 2012 sentra. It has difficulty rolling down. I have to bump the switch up and down a few times to get it "loose" (in a sense) in order for it to roll down. Rolls up with no issue. Have you ever experienced this?

    • @After7Garage
      @After7Garage  3 роки тому +1

      I cant say ive experienced that same thing.. You could take off the door panel, and test for power at the window motor and verify. If everything is good, then the issue might be your window regulator or motor.

    2012 sentra driver side window, would get stuck sometimes and a couple jiggles of the switch would get it going. then it died completely for a day or so, I got lucky and it started working again. Last night it died again, I was using the switch to go up, and the thing decided it was going down. It got to the bottom and stayed there. My issue is the opposite of yours, window is stuck down, when I press down on the switch it sounds like it does something for a split second, up is completely dead.. Any guesses what the problem could be based on my description of the problem? I wont hold u to it im just going crazy until the new switch gets here to try out. Thanks! Also, how do I test the switch? I tried a test light to the connecter, only one hot wire and the other windows didnt go down as another video suggested(if i grounded the correct pin). I wanted to jump the wires at the switch to test if that is the problem but IDK what wires to use

      @@Balticblue93 Yes it was the switch in my case. It probably got wet a bunch of times. It used to no go down on the first shot but if I tried again it would, then it would get stuck for a couple days at a time and that's when I replaced the switch and it fixed it. I have been pretty lucky with cheap fixtures on this car, the side mirrors with motor or like 35 bucks each. I'm going to sell the car so I want to redo the lenses on the headlights and tail lights

    Sir, how did you separate the glass from the regulator? You just mention it in the video that it was done.

    • @After7Garage
      @After7Garage  4 роки тому

      RockLobster2000 there are two bolts at the bottom of the glass that connect it to the window regulator. One on the left and one on the right. Typically these can easily be found when the window is in the full UP or DOWN position from the factory.

    • @After7Garage
      @After7Garage  4 роки тому

      RockLobster2000 in this case, both bolts were only visible in the DOWN position. With it being stuck up, the right bolt you can reach inside with a wrench and get it out. The left side I had to drill a small hole to access the bolt. You can barely spot it @ 2:30

    • @RockLobster2000
      @RockLobster2000 4 роки тому +1

      @@After7Garage Thank you for the reply. In my case, I did remove the bolt while the window was up on the side closest to the mirror. Then, I "helped" the motor bring the window down to get the other bolt, which is recessed. I like your idea of drilling a hole to access the bolt. It's too bad Nissan doesn't make it easy to replace. There should be access points when the window is down or up. I replaced the motor, but the problem is that the window channel is binding the window. I'll have to tackle that problem in a few weeks. Again, thank you for the video!

    Waste of time method! In my 41 years as a technician if I only saw one window motor fail in only one direction, it would be a lot! You could of cupped your hand over the dome light , pushed the window switch up & down and watched for the light to dim. If the light doesn't dim in either up or down position, it's a bad switch! You would of gotten the same diagnostic results without taking the entire door panel off!

  • @bluecavemen

    I'm not a car guy. But I would of use logic at this point rather then tell someone who doesn't know what they are doing to just take out the switch panel not the motor. You don't take the motor then test the switch. I would of test the switch then if that comes out - then you can tell viewers to take motor. I'm sure poor guy took out the motor now he having trouble adding the motor back together. For some reason UA-camr seem to give to much detail and people copy y'all. But never explain how to put it back together again

    • @After7Garage
      @After7Garage  3 роки тому

      I see your point, but perhaps you didn't watch the beginning of the video? I explained that considering the function of the window working Up but not Down made me suspect a bound up window regulator. Which is why I removed the motor to show that it spins freely with the regulator off, but then found out it was the switch. This video was meant to be informative and witness me figuring it out as I go. I don't like to do the repair then set it up fake for you to see it again. And if you cannot follow steps in reverse order to put your car back together, then you should just take it to the mechanic haha!

Well like I said I feel bad for the person who has no common sense out there that left scratching his head trying to save a few buck. ( Would save him money just replacing the switch: eBay cheapest cost 16 bucks ) I'm sure that guy regret watching your video. Now he has to pay a mechanic. Just to put the motor back plus paying a mechanic charging him $30 + " for a brand new switch. " Just because the box it comes with says made in the USA😂.
