People here bashing on the solo. Comparing both drones is like comparing a Mac to a PC: -the phantom, like the Mac, is elegant, simple to use, trendy, aesthetic, and well-made, but has little to no upgrade potential, and when you want to stay up to date in the hobby, you have to purchase a whole new drone -the solo, like a PC, is much more modular and has a lot more upgrade potential, with new software that can be downloaded and accessories that can be attached. It might be more expensive at first, but will last longer. Taking into consideration the GoPro can be used as a standalone camera as opposed to the phantom's, and the fact that DJI's customer attention is crap compared to 3dr's, I'd pick the solo.
ya know diego that is so flipping true, its just like cell phones you need to buy one every time something new hits the market. solo just down load the new software and you are up and running, and the open source platform is cool as hell.ya they have stumbled a little but they are on top of it and that is what sold me on them, mine recently did a 180 after landing and caused a bunch of sand to get inside I cleaned I and now I'm getting a magnetic problem prompt and I'm not sure what to do. thanks dave
very true, different strokes for different folks. I'd probably go with the phantom, it's just simpler to me. But I wouldn't knock the latter either, it just is less convenient. BUT, considering the 3dr seems way more expensive, I don't see the 3dr making it that long

+dfizzbom Fizz man...can you reply to my comment regarding where this is available? Is this an aftermarket feature or is it available through DJI? This would be huge, as it is the only thing I miss and would like not to upgrade to the Inspire to get it. I haven't seen this mentioned on DJI's webpage. Is it something that is an add on or does It have to be requested with the purchase of the vehicle. Thanks in advance.
3DR SOlo selling for $379 with Gimbal, Extra Battery and Propellors slightly tilts the scales in fav of 3DR. Especially for new drone pilots. Of course there is not limit to better drones.
it used to be on sale at best buy but now its here: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1189763-REG/3dr_solo_quadcopter_with_3_axis.html exact same package without the extra props
Fair comparison except the the 4k video that, as said, shot at different times. So you really can't compare the colors. Look at the trees and see the with the Solo they are turning color and with Phantom they are bright green. I've got a 3dr Solo and very happy with it.
It depends on your needs. DJI is cheaper, but Solo is a pro video rig. If you are looking for a toy that also does Video, get a Phantom. If you are looking for a pro platform to expand on get Solo. If you need a 4/3 camera today get Inspire 1 pro. If 4K will work for a while, get GoPro 4 black with a rectilinear lens for Solo. If 4/3 can wait till summer, get Solo now with GoPro and add the Sony 20Mp in June.
First off a few points here catching the drone by the legs looks cool but should never be done, a wind gust and your in the hospital.. 2nd DJI has the worse customer service, 3rd 3DR flight modes makes getting the shot simple and you can do the same shot over and over using there cable cam setup so you can fly the same path and try different angles each time for better film making DJI good luck with that one. 4th saying lighter is better is also not a issue a little more weight in the air does help with the wind. trying shooting video at night with the DJI camera ouch.. no real low light and just because they say there camera is 4K on the DJI the optics and sensor kinda suck. so bottom line buy what you like fly what you like just get off your butt and get outside...
+DroneCult Showing people a way that they can be hurt is not and will never be a standard practice. putting your hand near a blade that is spinning around at 15000 RPM looks cool on a video until a mistake happens, but again that's your choice.
+Scott Allen How are you rating customer service. I had a phantom and when it crashed DJI told me sorry that happened looks like it was pilot error. 3DR after a crash and reviewing logs sent out a refurbish unit at no cost?
I love both..And I've flown both. But I personally own the Solo . Its perfect for what I do. I am a filmmaker, so this is perfect for me. Especially with all the capabilities.. There are fish eye removal plugins that are superb. And if you are a seasoned editor , this is no problem to remove. .
I just got the Solo and it appears that it does actually give you the ability to change the camera settings of the GoPro. I'm using a GoPro 3+. But if you have GoPro 4 or higher, it actually lets you turn the camera recorder on and off via the solo.
I have a solo and I think this was the best honest comparison done so far. I would like to add that 3dr now updated the software so you can make all the camera changes in air and the video of the gopro was terrible at the end. Did you turn on proshots? It seems very dull picture quality
You forgot to menion that the phantom 3 have all the same features as the solo and more. its also more locked in due to glonas gps. When the wind is calm, the phantom 3 pro/advanced wont move more than a few cm. Also, the phantom 3 remote dont need a lcd as every thing you need is in the app, and you can have the most important information on the trigger buttons under the remote. "battery info" "map" etc. narrow on the gopro will also have fisheye effect. not much, but its there. Anyway. Great video! Glad i got the phantom 3 pro. its the best all in one drone you can get. and i have 0 problems with mine.
+GranVlog I guess you did not see the video where the guy tested the P3 and the Solo for return to home and the P3... 3 out of the 5 times tested landed 20 to 30 feet from where it took off? Just saying...
+Tallguysd the video you mention is where? Oh that one from like 6 months ago? The P3 have had firmware updates and it is rock solid. The 3DR Solo on the other hand needed correction as the design and build was flawed. The copper foil under the GPS had no insolation so the GPS can get shorted out causing issues. The HDMI cable was also trasnfering vibration to the GoPro. Having no control to the GoPro was the other draw back. Now when you fly drones, range is a very important factor. The P3 has 2km range. The Solo would not even make 1km. Can you hover the Solo indoor? You can with the P3.
Hey I like your comparison! But I do have a question, which one should you recommend me for making extra footage on my travel vids? I own a GoPro 4 silver, so I don't need to buy one if I went with the Solo. Thanks
excellent review! wish you went into more detail about the follow me modes; like do need to keep the controller with you? or will it just follow your phone? will the 3dr telemetry radios work with the solo? a demonstration of both follow me modes in comparison would have made this video an 11 out of 10! thanks!
I like the technology the solo has but it's still up to date with the dji. I want a solo but probably buy the dji 1st Have you flown the yuneec typhoon yet?
Hi, I have a question, 3 days ago I bought 3 dr solo and today I just tried to fly with it , it's totally fine, but when I'm about to landed ,suddenly my drone is moving to the right by it self, and kept landed the 3dr solo but because it's moving right but it self , my drone landed and a became upside down, because the drone kept moving to the left, and I got damage on my propellers , please tell me what is happening with my drone ? And what I must supposed to do, to do a safe land ? Thank you
This is completely biased. I have not chosen whether to go with Phantom 4 or Solo. But this video only talks about what's good about Phantom, but completely hides the pros of the Solos such as solo being heavier can also mean better stability in the windy weather or HDMI option for Solo opens up an opportunity to be used for FPV or VR or external monitor display options. This guy must like Phantom over Solo obviously and made a biased review!! (Yes, I am going for Phantom 4 but this video just does rarely mention what's good about Solo - when they obviously exist).
This was a really useful video. I was hell bent on getting a 3DR Solo but after watching this I'm not hundred 100% convinced anymore. The fact that the Phantom Pro 3 records in 4K without barrel distortion (fisheye) is a pretty big plus (alhtough you can remove the GP fisheye post production, but it would be nice to have out the box without having to replace the lens). And the Phantom 3 footage looks so much more colourful, whereas the GoPro footage looks dull in comarison - is that just due to conditions on the day, or does the Phantom Pro 3 camera produce more vibrant footage out of the box before any post colour correction?
+Mark Erasmus I'd say the cameras are about the same. For me, the price and over all function that should be considered. P3 is far better in these two areas. 3DR is certainly better in customer service. Really, the DJI P3 and Yuneeq Q500+ are the two drones that are close. The Solo is far behind both.
+Todd Copeland I couldn't disagree more. You obviously have not flown a Solo, used Tower, etc. I have the beta release software (that will come out to the public next week). It has complete control of ebery aspect opf the GoPro. The smart shots blow away what DJI does. Having to fly waypoints to run them is ridiculous. Seriously.. It is a joke And the Solo has compete control of the gimbal in automation, from the factory. Dont even get me started on cables, SD card updates, etc. Solo is all wireless, and that is a GREAT thing... Updates are nearly automatic, not the cluster that DJI does. It is also based on standards. If you want more range? I doesn't interest me, but Solo is built on standards, and (as an example) uses mini PCI cards. Upgrade them for $60 and go 5 miles if you want.... Want a different camera? Add a driver. Want to stream 1080P? change a driver...It's all standard I swear, 99% of the people here have never been next to a Solo, much less flown one, and really have no idea what they are looking at. It is like dissing a Ferrai because it doesn't seat 8. I have both a P3P and a Solo. Who else here does?
Earl Gray I've not flown the Solo because I have not used firmware that is not yet released to the public. It's great that you will finally be able to control the app without having to land and adjust the camera. As mentioned in another post, there are apps for the P3 that allow waypoints to be set without flying... but when you can fly over a mile manually, waypoints are not a big deal. Plugging the device into the controller is much more stable and better then WiFi. How do you update your map display while flying the Solo or pull in any information from the Internet while flying? The Solo cannot because the WiFi is tied up... to a device that is 4" away. The Solo has the ability do do something, it might be able to do something else... when it does, come back and let us know and we can talk about that. I'm not talking about the things that the P3 _might_ be able to do in the future. I'm using what it can do now. P3 updates are automatic. They download from the Internet and install wirelessly. If you don't want to fly a mile out, then the Solo is probably for you. Great if you don't need all the features the P3 offers. Far from making the Solo better though. There is a reason 99% of people out there have not flown a Solo.
Well ik this is a long time after the phantom 3 pro is released But does it still hold up as a great quadcopter? Pls reply if you know about these topics
Having hard finding out weather GP4 will be part of a purchase, or if it have to be bought along side.. Or, if a Hero3 can be plugged in... Anyone knows?
The gimble while flying on the Phantom seems a little jerky if you are taking a turn while moving. The solo seems better with that turn but you can also see the landing gear when the turn is too tight.
contemplating a Phantom 3 Advanced as my first drone purchase. Have no experience whatsoever be it drone flying/flight sim playing. Would you recommend it or a cheaper/simpler alternative would serve me better?
I appreciate your comparison of the DJI Phantom 3 and 3DR Solo. I originally started flying the Phantom 2 about a year and a half ago, with disasterous results. Having come into this enterprise without ANY previous experience, I thought it would be easy to learn to operate a quadcopter. Not so! After crashing a couple of drones, I purchased a Phantom 2 extended version which has much better communication capability between the drone and controller. Does the Phantom 3 professional have the same communication ability as the Phantom 2 extended? Also, DJI was hyping their automated flight-plan technology which I found to be frustrating. In an automated flight-path configuration, you do not have the ability to manipulate the rotation of the quadcopter. You cannot turn the quadcopter as you fly around a subject so that you can capture a 360 degree filming sequence. Are there any quadcopters on market that have an automated flight plan program with the added benefit of a quadcopter radius turn which enables the camera to focus on the subject? Thank you for providing information on these two quadcopters. I look forward to updates. :)
Forward Air Speed instead of Velocity and the Phantom 3 pro does have an HDMI connection as an add on if you wish to connect it to a large screen. Otherwise a good comparison.
No drone flying experience. I help a private pilot's licence but has since expired ....too expensive.....Would I be able to fly the 3 DR or The DJi out of the box?.....assuming I spend a few hours doing basics
Both are straightfoward enough to fly out of the box. Remember to feather-touch the sticks until you get the feel for them - my friends that didn't pay for them treated mine like RC cars just because they use sticks. That's a guaranteed way to lose control, panic, and crash.
This video was very helpful. I was going to purchase the GoPro Karma, but the reviews say it keeps stopping & crashing. Then I was going to purchase the 3DR Solo Drone, but decided to keep researching different drones not only those 2. I really liked that the Phantom has a more distance wide range, and the quality of the camera looks clearer. Which drone would you recommend if I want to use it for music videos or filming vacation videos?

First of all: The DJI P3 can do stuff like orbit around (POI) and cablecam (waypoints, which is even better because you can set a lot of them and not just two). Second off all: although the DJI P3 doesn't come with an hdmi port build into it's controller, you can buy one and swap the original USB output for the hdmi module (which still has a USB port by the way).
+Devil6CR LOl... See... This is one of those uninformed lies i don't like. I am suer somebody somewhere has problems, just like somebodys P3 fflew away.... But No...... "they" don't have problems... This flallacy was much easier to propagate earlier before the gimbal was released, and before thousands of us started shooting video. facebook.com/groups/3DRSOLOVIDEO/
+Earl Gray well I don't spread lies, it's a known fact that it has problems with the gimbal in yawn movement, I'm sure it don't happen to them all but it happens enough to make it a issue. You might have a solo that has no problems and that's good, but loads of videos here stating that issue.
phantom ftw. ps was that Pitt Lake i saw around the 11:10 mark? thought i was recognizing a few areas but that definitely sealed it for me that this was filmed near me. cool.
The phantom footage is way too sharp, which is crazy side by side next to a gopro which is already super sharp. Not sure if I like it better or not. Do you guys see an odd flicker in Phantom footage?
+dapoopta This only happens if you upload to UA-cam straight from your device. You should plug the DJI gimbal into your computer and download the video to your computer then edit if you wish, then upload to UA-cam.
el pantera In my opinion I'd say the Phantom would be slightly better mainly because of the fact they have been making drones for quite some time now and most issues that ever come up are generally addressed in software updates, this is just my opinion and observations of how dji works
+Scott Allen It is a problem when newbies take a p3 in their hands. Most of those guys go hard on the throttle and suddenly stop, then hit the throttle hard, then suddenly stop. Dude, any gadget in the hands of an ass will fail, sooner or later. My Phantom is almost a year old and ZERO cracks.
Devil6CR You won't regret buying a phantom, besides, if anything bad happens, p3 shell is very cheap, all parts are very cheap actually. I bought 2 sets of propellers... I am still using first set since july. You just need to fly safe and carefully, It wont break.
I fly an Iris + and love it. I hold no devotion to any company so I don't care about 3DR vs DJI blabber, I do like the P4, but can you put lens on the Phantom camera's?
KuyaIce Channel with some mods you can attach almost any gopro like action cam to the gimbal. But go for the gopro hero 3+ black or any gopro 4 edition. Awesome drone, any issue I've encountered I've been able to fix myself in 5 min. And being able to take the drone apart and learn how it works with out worrying if I broke something is awesome, all heavy duty plastic and screws, love dji, but wouldn't give up my solo.
Another consideration is DJI is now a 100% Chinese company and 3DR is a U.S. company, however I think the 3DR product needs some more refinement. What I like about the Solo is its high speed capabilities which can provide some quite dramatic footage especially when low to the ground.
Great video! These are the two I'm trying to decide between. I like the idea of the Solo because I can upgrade cameras down the road, where you can't with the Phantom. I'd prob. pick the Phantom if I could put a GoPro on it. I have very limited experience flying drones, but I do have a photography business and I think this will be a great addition to my gear. Which one did you end up owning? Any other thoughts on your end? I'm going to watch the video again and hopefully make a decision. Any thoughts on when a new GoPro will come out?
You need to update this, it's out of date. Primarily they use the same damn sensor, GoPro settings can be adjusted on the solo and fisheye can be easily removed in post processing. It's on the GoPro studio.
I think we are going to purchase a few of these for educational purposes. I like the features that the 3DR gives with the easy home button, break and the ability to orbit an object has me sold. Another thing that you didn't mention is how loud are the drones? Also with the 3DR teachers would have the ability to show the footage on there smart board to there students with the HDMI out.
+Stew Skinner Put 3.97 lens on the GoPro and you're finished. I couldn't stand the fish eye look as well. I almost bought a P3 just for that reason. Glad I didn't.
Both are good hmm! Been looking at the DJI Pro but think the go-pro does a bit better job and has more options and looks to me a bit smoother at times. First I have seen the 3DR Solo but do like that it's faster by quite a bit and with a go-pro that I can use for other things ? it doesn't go as far but there may a fix for that, So what to do lol
With the return home button, DJI even though having more "tech" than 3DR seems to be less accurate. ( by several feet, sometimes even changing the location set as home)
I'm looking to buy a drone for aerial photography, i already own a hero 4 black and was looking for a drone with a go pro gimbal. at first i decided the best drone for me was the dji 3 with zenmuse gimbal which was priced at £600. Having done more research I became interested in the 3dr solo, for a start it looks like a better quality product to me, the solo controller makes dji's look like a toy. with the solo's upgradable capabilities and full control of my go pro i changed my mind, even with the higher price of £980. i have since found the solo with gimbal on offer for £550. my mind is now made up for sure! even after watching this slightly biased video. and reading all the bum boy comments. tell me why I'm wrong before i buy one. and don't say fish eye because thats a go pro without a lens
Based upon what I see from the comparison the Phantom 3 PRO would be my vote. The Solo is a faster drone, but I am not about speed. Both have some limitations (front shooting only). The HDMI feature on the Solo would be a nice feature, but not a must for me. The communications of 2K for the Phantom vs. the Solo would be a big issue for me and sway me to the Phantom. Very informative video, thank you very much. I currently don't own a drone and am looking to purchase one. I am sure it will be like all camera equipment, as soon as I jump in and purchase something new and improved will come out. Would love to see the Phantom include some the the features such as HDMI port and the in air brake that the Solo offers. Can you provide any insight as to where the FAA is in regards to drone regulation? I am a photographer and would want to utilize a drone for making video shorts and aerial photography. Certainly don't want to end up dealing with large fines because I was ignorant of "The Regulations"
thanks for doing this review, I've been flying dji p2 with a go pro her 3+ for 2 years. I'm wanting to upgrade to a dji inspire 1 or phantom pro but i wasn't sure if i would like the fov with the phantom pro. you just convinced me to buy the phantom pro. with the fov at 94 vs 170 or so with the go pro. the dji phantom pro is shoe in. plus the color grading is terrible on the go pro unless you had "protune" on. i'd prefer protune off since I'm working with iMovie ( no color grading option besides exposure compensation). And there is no barrel distortion which completely ruins my photography sense i don't have warm stabilizing software.
In my opinion the Solo being the heavier drone, although might use more battery life, will be more stable in windy conditions and therefore be more stable option for a camera platform....
Great review, thanks. Very objective, well planned and presented. I have a Phantom 2 and a Solo. Since you asked (in the video): My preference between the 2 is the Solo. It is by no means a perfect platform, but the reasons I chose the Solo over the Phantom 3 are: 1) You can change out the GoPro Hero lens (much easier than some people would have you believe) to a more telephoto lens. 2) Customer service at 3DR is about 10 times better then 3DR in my experience (I have lots of experience with both) 3) The Solo is an open platform, made to expand. Some people prefer that, some don't (just as some people - like me - prefer the open nature of the PC/Android/etc. over the closed platforms of the Apple Family) 4) The Solo has preset sweep buttons, and as far as I can tell, more options 5) The black color makes it far easier to keep in sight against a light sky 6) The warranty for 3DR is FAR better. They will even replace your GoPro in the event of a fly-away or crash. 7) The GoPro is a better camera as far as I can tell (I do not have a P3). Better low light, more options. I really don't care that I can't change the resolution from the controller. Some of the things I DO NOT like about the Solo: 1) AS you mention in the video, you cannot catch it in the air. BIG disadvantage. I have had to catch drones trying to land, say in tall grass, on a steep slope or brush, or even over water. Without being able to grab the legs, my drone would have been in trouble. 2) It is not as easy (heavier, larger) to travel with than the Phantom. This is not a huge deal, but it is something. BUT, the Solo does better in wind because of that extra weight, and honestly that is what I prefer. 3) It is quite a bit more expensive than the Phantom 3. Also not a huge deal, but it is certainly something. 4) The Solo is far more picky getting satellite lock. HOWEVER, I would rather have that than my drone fly away. I had 2 Phantoms fly away, and one crash. DJI gave me a 30% discount on replacing the fly-aways, and they replaced the P2 that crashed. 3DR has replaced one crashed drone for me.
I see a user below commented on the 4K footage that the leaves were lush and green on the Phantom 3 footage and turning in the Solo footage, so not really a fair comparison. It would be nice to see a like-for-like as a true indicator.
Nice review. I have to say that you can fly the Phantom 3 easily at 5km, maybe more. For me that is a great plus for the Phantom. Also there is a mod that you can install an HDMI on the phantom RC, but it costs 100 euros.
+Ox Bone You do know that 90% of the new drone designs run on PixHawk (flight controller) right? Who makes that? 3DR.... Open sourse always wins in the end... People think Apple, but PC sells way more than Mac, and Android sells way more than IOS.... It will take a few years, but you will see :)
+Earl Gray Um you have no profe that ios sells less than android and the 3dr dose not have all the optins I owne a 3dr and a phantom pro and there is ignifcant difference in camra and flite time as well so and Pc dose not sell more than MAC and what are most of the ecseorrys for in the stors APPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you have no or stitstics any way sorry fore that rant what you are SAYING IS BS!!!!!
+Benjamin Babick Um... Proof you say? Yes. I do have it (although it is commin knowledge for those that deal with it) www.adappt.co.uk/sites/default/files/Sales.jpg And no there isn't a significant difference in cameras. BOTH the GoPro4 and the P3P use the same exact Sony EXMOR sensor. www.gizmag.com/review-dji-phantom-3-professional/38694/ diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/go-pro-3-powered-by-sony-sensor The only difference is the lens, which as I mentioned can be changed on the GoPro, so I can swap cameras easily and use a different camera/lens in two minutes. That just can't be done on the P3. I use the 4.35mm lens as well as the 5.44mm lens, both of which are rectlinear (no fisheye) as well as the stock lens. I have choices. I can pick the lens for the application, and then also choose the FOV of the camera to suit the shot. You have the same FOV no matter what you do. And to round out the wrongness, you are also profoundly wrong on Mac sales vs PC. legitreviews.com/images/reviews/news/PC_vs_Mac_sales.jpg FYI: I can (and do) also clamp GoPro cameras to motor bikes, car hoods, airplane wings, rockets, near space balloons, and I take them diving, skiing, hang gliding, fishing, hiking, bungee jumping etc. etc. Try that with your P3 camera :) And when GoPro 5 comes out in January, I can upgrade. In order to get the equivilant of that camera (8K, 240 FPS, etc.) you will need to buy another drone (P4). PS: You might want to do some research before ranting and telling others they are WRONG (in CAPS) as It will likely save you enmbarrasment next time. You might also want to learn to spell. Beyond taking away from the point you are attempting to make, it is distracting trying to figure out what an "ecseorry" is :)
+Earl Gray Ahaha i got stuck at ecseorry too. any advice on which one to get. I was thinking p3, but then heard of the Solo and started researching it. the solo looks great during these "interview" videos with 3DR, but when I see video comparison the solo just looks to shakey or not as appealing as the P3. does the solo gimbal not work as well? would you mind helping me out with this decision? seems like you know your shit. thanks
Where some people might say that the GoPro is what might make the 3DR better, that is where I say it is its biggest limitation. It needs to have Sony 4K Action Cam as an option.
Alex Sotirakis Why are all P3 shells cracking apart and gimbals falling apart under normal flights, no crashes?! Well you can always contact DJI customer support, oh wait a minute, they don't have any customer service.
+Roxanne Ringler my Phantom doesn't have a single issue or crack and it sure has done a lot of flights (about 40 hours of light time now). You are talking about a product that has sold millions, of course there will be faults once in a while. And on the forums people just write their problems. Who will make a post about his Phantom flying flawlessly? My friend who crashed his Phantom and send it back to DJI got it repaired fairly quickly and customer service was excellent. When did you see gimbals falling apart under normal flying conditions? The price alone for the Solo is a ripoff for what you get. It doesn't even include a gimbal or camera.
I bought the 3dr solo because I have several GoPros and use them every day. It is a Good Drone, although I had to modify to make it good. If I could go back in time I would have bought the Phantom 3 pro. The P3P camera and gimbal are so much better than solo.
I would like to say kudos on very well done video. It was refreshing after seeing so many poorly done or skewed in the favor of one or the other. You gave clear, concise and relevant information . I currently fly a racing quadcopter and I am now considering getting the yuneecq500+ or the phantom 3. I have also looked at the 3dr (thanks to your video) and the Autel x start. The x star is really nice but a bit more pricey than the others. I like the phantom 3 for about $650(with 2 batteries and case) but the customer service, or lack of, scares me. My next thought is the yuneec for about $700 for same type package. What are your thoughts? Thanks.
Still cant decide! What drone would be better for travel?
Owning both drones at the moment(2023) ,for what ever reason, the phantom sits on the shelf while the Solo gets used
People here bashing on the solo. Comparing both drones is like comparing a Mac to a PC:
-the phantom, like the Mac, is elegant, simple to use, trendy, aesthetic, and well-made, but has little to no upgrade potential, and when you want to stay up to date in the hobby, you have to purchase a whole new drone
-the solo, like a PC, is much more modular and has a lot more upgrade potential, with new software that can be downloaded and accessories that can be attached.
BUT, considering the 3dr seems way more expensive, I don't see the 3dr making it that long

especially since it's only $299 now at BestBuy including the 3-Axis gimble, 2 batteries and extra props. It's a steal imho.
Stephen Vieira had to take advantage of that deal
There is an hdmi option for the phantom 3 now. Might want to add that in there.

Phantom 3 is my choice. I love my phantom 3 pro but I would love to fly the 3DR. I love the screen on the 3DR as well.
3DR SOlo selling for $379 with Gimbal, Extra Battery and Propellors slightly tilts the scales in fav of 3DR. Especially for new drone pilots. Of course there is not limit to better drones.
you are selling it?
it used to be on sale at best buy but now its here:
www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1189763-REG/3dr_solo_quadcopter_with_3_axis.html
exact same package without the extra props
Nirvaan1 It's $299 now at BestBuy
Stephen Vieira and the spare props batt and Gimbal have dropped in price too. Got mine off eBay Best Buy Store.
Stephen Vieira I got the bundle with the Bag. Was hard to pass at this price.
got a solo and I feel the weight is a plus. it is incredibly stable in wind and just seems to be very stable.
Fair comparison except the the 4k video that, as said, shot at different times. So you really can't compare the colors. Look at the trees and see the with the Solo they are turning color and with Phantom they are bright green. I've got a 3dr Solo and very happy with it.
+Charlie O'Shea Try a P3, you'll change your mind. :)
+Andrew Henriques I have one. Want to buy it? I will take that money and buy a 2nd Solo :)
+Earl Gray No? Anybody?
+Charlie O'Shea hello Im trying to buy a drone but not sure if solo of dj , how is your experience with solo also is more expensive then dj
You obviously have never flown from a boat or from a mountain top. Catching it by the legs is pretty standard practice.
+DroneCult Showing people a way that they can be hurt is not and will never be a standard practice. putting your hand near a blade that is spinning around at 15000 RPM looks cool on a video until a mistake happens, but again that's your choice.
3DR customer service is now as bad as DJI. It's gone to crap.
+Scott Allen How are you rating customer service. I had a phantom and when it crashed DJI told me sorry that happened looks like it was pilot error. 3DR after a crash and reviewing logs sent out a refurbish unit at no cost?
+Tallguysd yes 3DR was good, but lately it's gone downhill for support and availability of parts.
Why don't you compare the 3dr solo with the phantom 2 with a gopro gimbal?
a better comparison would be the inspire 1. Except with Solo you use automation instead if the other operator.
great comparison. where was the video footage shot when looking over the green area with the wooden foot bridge?
+Tallguysd maybe, but my p3p is very accurate
+GranVlog so is my 3DR solo.
+Vinnie T do you on a 3DR SOLO?
Also, I think I read somewhere that the Solo will be more upgradeable down the road? Any thoughts?
Hey I like your comparison! But I do have a question, which one should you recommend me for making extra footage on my travel vids? I own a GoPro 4 silver, so I don't need to buy one if I went with the Solo. Thanks
excellent review! wish you went into more detail about the follow me modes; like do need to keep the controller with you? or will it just follow your phone? will the 3dr telemetry radios work with the solo? a demonstration of both follow me modes in comparison would have made this video an 11 out of 10! thanks!
Excellent comparison! Could you pls tell me the music played in the footage comparison?
you say that the dji only has 2000m distance limit and there you are very wrong!!! The dji 3 pro can fly 6000-8000m.
+José Campos he said km which stands for kilometers.
admitonefish 2000 m is 2 km
Hi I was wondering if you would know if and Ipad mine 4 will work with the Phantom 3 Pro . Before I buy it. Thank You Mike
Now THAT was a Frikkin ASSLOAD of info!!!! Well done my friend...jim
great job on the video. the moving footage from the DJI looked a little 'studdery'...is that normal out due to post-processing?
Those are some beautiful shots is that the seattle area
Where did you get the sunshade from on the GoPro?? I want it!
I like the technology the solo has but it's still up to date with the dji. I want a solo but probably buy the dji 1st
Have you flown the yuneec typhoon yet?
does 3dr solo is only for go pro or cn i buy some cheaper action cam but has quality of go pro? pls answer thanks
Want to stream 1080P? change a driver...It's all standard
I swear, 99% of the people here have never been next to a Solo, much less flown one, and really have no idea what they are looking at.
+Earl Gray could you post some more info on the $60 upgrade. Just got one and I may be interested in doing this at some point.
hi! great video! one question my friend: what is the name of the track that plays at 10:24 min???
Good video, I'm thinking of getting the 3DR Solo what should I know
Well ik this is a long time after the phantom 3 pro is released But does it still hold up as a great quadcopter? Pls reply if you know about these topics
you might want to properly test the solo @04:25 your antennas are angled completely wrong...
Having hard finding out weather GP4 will be part of a purchase, or if it have to be bought along side.. Or, if a Hero3 can be plugged in...
Anyone knows?
can you do a review comparison for walkera scout x5. better battery life. and good range
I think you are crazy for trying to catch the Phantom, do you catch it be audit tips over very easy?
Do you still have all you're fingers?
Will the range on the Solo get better?? Soon?....
You have to buy the go pro seperate right
Where are you shooting? awesome shots
The gimble while flying on the Phantom seems a little jerky if you are taking a turn while moving. The solo seems better with that turn but you can also see the landing gear when the turn is too tight.
u can equip thw phantom 3 controller with a HDMI out as well
Which ones louder when flying and by how much?
contemplating a Phantom 3 Advanced as my first drone purchase. Have no experience whatsoever be it drone flying/flight sim playing. Would you recommend it or a cheaper/simpler alternative would serve me better?
How about a comparison between 3DR Solo and Phantom 4 now? As I read the review fro DJI its more intelligent than Solo.
What cameras work with the 3DR?
+MW Technology Which Samsung do you use for flying Phantom 3 profesionnal? Is this a Samsung Galaxy S5?
dji phantom 3 pro ,xiro xplorer , and 3DR solo which one is the best ?
xiro xplorer VS traxxas aton what is a better deal /quad?
Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated
Thank you! The short version is I have just crossed the 3DR Solo off my list.
Music at the end?
Nice video. I like the footage from the Phantom 3 better than from the GoPro on the 3DR Solo. I wonder which you like better in terms of control.
The solo footage is shaky on yaw.
+GranVlog mine isnt
+Earl Gray that might be true, but i was referring to the footage in the video :)
yes it's a problem with them.
+Earl Gray
well I don't spread lies, it's a known fact that it has problems with the gimbal in yawn movement, I'm sure it don't happen to them all but it happens enough to make it a issue. You might have a solo that has no problems and that's good, but loads of videos here stating that issue.
I got a P3P Brand new for 210 bucks complete brand new. Is this worth still keeping or go with the P4
+gerry kline wuttt phantom 3 professional for 210$ ????
The built-in camera on the Phantom 3 looks clearer to me than the Hero 4. And the combo cost less.
phantom ftw. ps was that Pitt Lake i saw around the 11:10 mark? thought i was recognizing a few areas but that definitely sealed it for me that this was filmed near me. cool.
The phantom footage is way too sharp, which is crazy side by side next to a gopro which is already super sharp. Not sure if I like it better or not. Do you guys see an odd flicker in Phantom footage?
props
+dapoopta This only happens if you upload to UA-cam straight from your device. You should plug the DJI gimbal into your computer and download the video to your computer then edit if you wish, then upload to UA-cam.
+Peres Dixon the flicker is not from phone, it's from a crappy 40mbps codec that dji decided I use for 4k
I don't have any problems with mine at all .
Between phantom 3 standard and solo which do you recommend?
el pantera standard
Taylan K do you have bad experience with solo?
el pantera In my opinion I'd say the Phantom would be slightly better mainly because of the fact they have been making drones for quite some time now and most issues that ever come up are generally addressed in software updates, this is just my opinion and observations of how dji works
Spartiosh thanks for the advice.
I have the 3dr solo and GoPro 3 black and I'm really upset that the 3dr doesn't control the GoPro 3 100 percent :(
Well looks like I won't be getting a p3, they are plagued with cracks in the frame around the motor mounts.
yes it seems to be a problem with the P3. I wonder if other Phantoms have the same issue?
+Scott Allen It is a problem when newbies take a p3 in their hands. Most of those guys go hard on the throttle and suddenly stop, then hit the throttle hard, then suddenly stop. Dude, any gadget in the hands of an ass will fail, sooner or later. My Phantom is almost a year old and ZERO cracks.
Mark V.G. ok
I'm really stuck between the Phantom 3 Standard and 3dr solo Somebody please Help me out
which ones better?
I think we are going to purchase a few of these for educational purposes. I like the features that the 3DR gives with the easy home button, break and the ability to orbit an object has me sold. Another thing that you didn't mention is how loud are the drones? Also with the 3DR teachers would have the ability to show the footage on there smart board to there students with the HDMI out.
Awesome vid, not sure how much it has helped me though, still struggling to decide.
Could I use the 3DR Solo and add the Phantom 3 camera and gimbal? I always feel nauseous watching that horrible fish-eye GoPro crap.
+Stew Skinner
Put 3.97 lens on the GoPro and you're finished.
I couldn't stand the fish eye look as well. I almost bought a P3 just for that reason. Glad I didn't.
Both are good hmm! Been looking at the DJI Pro but think the go-pro does a bit better job and has more options and looks to me a bit smoother at times. First I have seen the 3DR Solo but do like that it's faster by quite a bit and with a go-pro that I can use for other things ? it doesn't go as far but there may a fix for that, So what to do lol
the phantom 3 pro has the same sensor as the gopro black so why the big difference
With the return home button, DJI even though having more "tech" than 3DR seems to be less accurate. ( by several feet, sometimes even changing the location set as home)
Dji Phantom does have the option to output to HDMI. There's a replacement available.
The solo can also fly totally autonomously, by using Tower or Mission planner it can fly pre-programmed missions such as mapping etc.
Thanks for taking the time to compare these and provide so much information. You gave me what I needed to reach a buying decision.
Hey all, can anybody tell me if I can get a Hero 7 to work with this drone?
+Goldwinger1 Goldwinger1 The P3 has an upgrade board for HDMI.
thanks for doing this review, I've been flying dji p2 with a go pro her 3+ for 2 years.
I enjoyed your review. I am currently leaning towards the DJI Phantom 3 Pro after days of research and your video. Keep up the great work!
The solo is a better drone, the phantom is a better camera
In my opinion the Solo being the heavier drone, although might use more battery life, will be more stable in windy conditions and therefore be more stable option for a camera platform....
Great review, thanks. Very objective, well planned and presented.
I have a Phantom 2 and a Solo. Since you asked (in the video): My preference between the 2 is the Solo. It is by no means a perfect platform, but the reasons I chose the Solo over the Phantom 3 are:
1) You can change out the GoPro Hero lens (much easier than some people would have you believe) to a more telephoto lens.
2) Customer service at 3DR is about 10 times better then 3DR in my experience (I have lots of experience with both)
3) The Solo is an open platform, made to expand. Some people prefer that, some don't (just as some people - like me - prefer the open nature of the PC/Android/etc. over the closed platforms of the Apple Family)
4) The Solo has preset sweep buttons, and as far as I can tell, more options
5) The black color makes it far easier to keep in sight against a light sky
6) The warranty for 3DR is FAR better. They will even replace your GoPro in the event of a fly-away or crash. 7) The GoPro is a better camera as far as I can tell (I do not have a P3). Better low light, more options. I really don't care that I can't change the resolution from the controller.
Some of the things I DO NOT like about the Solo:
1) AS you mention in the video, you cannot catch it in the air.
As a follow-up, please review which firearm is best to shoot these things out of the sky.
DJI Phantom are experts in this field and I will trust them and their products.
+Ox Bone You do know that 90% of the new drone designs run on PixHawk (flight controller) right? Who makes that? 3DR.... Open sourse always wins in the end... People think Apple, but PC sells way more than Mac, and Android sells way more than IOS.... It will take a few years, but you will see :)
thanks for the intel (get it) i take a closer look at the 3DR
+Earl Gray Um you have no profe that ios sells less than android and the 3dr dose not have all the optins I owne a 3dr and a phantom pro and there is ignifcant difference in camra and flite time as well so and Pc dose not sell more than MAC and what are most of the ecseorrys for in the stors APPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you have no or stitstics any way sorry fore that rant what you are SAYING IS BS!!!!!
+Benjamin Babick
Um... Proof you say? Yes. I do have it (although it is commin knowledge for those that deal with it)
www.adappt.co.uk/sites/default/files/Sales.jpg
And no there isn't a significant difference in cameras. BOTH the GoPro4 and the P3P use the same exact Sony EXMOR sensor.
www.gizmag.com/review-dji-phantom-3-professional/38694/
diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/go-pro-3-powered-by-sony-sensor
The only difference is the lens, which as I mentioned can be changed on the GoPro, so I can swap cameras easily and use a different camera/lens in two minutes.
And to round out the wrongness, you are also profoundly wrong on Mac sales vs PC.
legitreviews.com/images/reviews/news/PC_vs_Mac_sales.jpg
FYI: I can (and do) also clamp GoPro cameras to motor bikes, car hoods, airplane wings, rockets, near space balloons, and I take them diving, skiing, hang gliding, fishing, hiking, bungee jumping etc.
I was thinking p3, but then heard of the Solo and started researching it. the solo looks great during these "interview" videos with 3DR, but when I see video comparison the solo just looks to shakey or not as appealing as the P3. does the solo gimbal not work as well? would you mind helping me out with this decision? seems like you know your shit. thanks
Very useful overview and thorough comparative test
Where some people might say that the GoPro is what might make the 3DR better, that is where I say it is its biggest limitation. It needs to have Sony 4K Action Cam as an option.
my solo arrived soon and im excited..
with new 3dr solo update and fpvlr antenna solo smkes p3!
+Roxanne Ringler yeah after buying an expensive aftermarket modification..what a joke!
Alex Sotirakis Ok another DJI fanboy.
Roxanne Ringler pfff just because i am replying with actual facts i am a DJI fanboy? haha ok whatever, waste of time replying to you...
I bought the 3dr solo because I have several GoPros and use them every day. It is a Good Drone, although I had to modify to make it good. If I could go back in time I would have bought the Phantom 3 pro. The P3P camera and gimbal are so much better than solo.
What about?,3dr solo vs GoPro karma
You should put average price for both drones in the video because that is a factor in choosing as well.
Thanks.
Finally the comparison. Nice!
