It is indeed a talent show... You're supposed to see that the girl feels 'different' to others, and has always felt like that, and that the singer sees that. _"I can feel the thunder that's breaking in your heart, I can see through the scars inside you"._ He's reaching out to say, 'I understand you.... join me...'. It has multiple meanings, like most Ghost songs. It can be read as a love song, an invitation to a cult, a refutation of the doctrine of Original Sin: _"I know your soul is not tainted, Even though you've been told so"._
This song means a lot to their fans. Beautifully constructed, too. Ghost has a huge variety in its catalogue, many sub-genres of rock, from pop to doom metal.
Ooooh
@@MaddyReactions in perspectiv of a cult it has also the undertone for a manipulativ leader. Many phrases like the last part:"Cant you see that you're lost without me?!" Show the slowly manipulation of a person.
@@nikolah.8472 not to mention that the idea is juxtaposing the Church. The Church is who told her she was tainted, whereas Papa sees (or wants her to believe) that she is not. The Church will use fear, whereas this cult will use understanding.
The multitude of layers that can uncovered in this song is haunting, yet elegant. Mastercraft of a song.
Ghost won a Grammy Award for this song. They have a bunch of great songs that you can react to. ❤🤘
Oooh!
"I'm distracted." Close your eyes.
Lol ahhh
Dance Macabre next? To watch the "birth" of Papa? 😄🤘
Very much agree. I feel like Maddy would vibe with it too
Ghost is a Swedish band with lots of genres within Rock, and the only permanent member is the singer Tobias Forge (as Papa Emeritus IV).
If this is your first reaction to Ghost I understand your comment on the vocals and the music match. After a couple of songs with Ghost, it makes perfectly sense.
This song is about manipulation but masked as a love song. It won a Grammy award in 2016.
You wondered if it was supposed to be kids singing as adults, and yes, it is. It supposed to be a talent show in an elementary school.
This is such a great band. Would like to see you react to the song Mary on a cross.
Thanks for your reaction!
Oooh!
Tobias has said in interviews that this song is a commentary on the evangelical Christian movement and how they recruit.
Oooh
Best talentshow ever.. 😂
Lol most entertaining!
Hi Maddy, it’s Friends here again. I looooove Ghost!! So glad you’re reacting to this song first. Next you should do “Mary on a Cross”!! It will have you singing along by the end. My favorite part of this video is the parents clapping at the end. That would be me if I had kids. Your face during the beginning of the singing was priceless😅🤘🏼
They take a few listens to get used to cause they're pretty unique. Worth diving into though, you'll probably like em a lot.
Ahh
7:50
Nice homage to every "Carrie" movie made over the last 47 yrs.
You´re so darn cool!! Love to watch and listen to you! Thanks! 🙂
you should definetly look Spillways from ghost is such a catchy song
Oooh
Or 'watcher in the sky'🇸🇪
Definitely 112% check out their song He is
Nice
Ghost - Spillways please :) ❤️
Ooh
The vocals are great, I love heavy music, but I hate growling vocals.
It took me some time to get used to Ghost. At first I was put off by them looking a certain way, but not being EXTREMELY DARK as I expected, then I listened more & I surmised that they are dark, but a more subtle darkness, which is cool…NOW, I LOVE their mix of Blüe Öyster Cült/Mercyful Fate/Beach Boys….🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
My favorite Ghost song is square hammer They also do a great rendition of Metallic enter the sandman
🤗
No, you're absolutely right about Ghost: there's something distinctly offputing about their delivery, but after several listens, you "get it" and cant get enough.
This song starts out like a Slayer dirge: opens w creepy minor chord progression, builds on it, but then builds into Tom Araya screaming vocals. This builds into Tobias Forge softness
I found this esp w their debut album. I didnt get it at first, but i love it now.
Its a love song. He is reaching out to her, he truly sees her, he feels her pain and he accepts her for who she is. Its a creepy love song, but still a love song.
Oooh
It's supposed to be 'Ser-reece' like Clarice from Silence Of The Lambs. The singles artwork is derived from the movie poster. Most of the artwork for albums and singles art is based off of vintage horror movies. Some are historical also.
If the movie "Carrie" was set in an Elementary School..... and she had a band who helped her realize her powers and use them! edit: Maybe try their song "Rats" or "He Is" for a different vibe?
LOL definitely
Just a great band
Someone said it like a combination of ABBA and Black Sabbath if that makes sense.
Ooh
This is on my sexytime playlist. Thats how groovy this shit is 🤘🏻
More of these guys please! I promise you’ll never hear anything you have nothing to say about
🤍
Dance Macabre next for sure
More Ghost Please!!!
React to Nick Cave "Where the Wild Roses Grow" please.
If youre going to do any more Ghost, I suggest Spillways, like a few others suggested in the comments. Spillways is about pressure valves and the destructive ways people release pain, like addictions and self-harm, so go into it knowing that and you will get past the "satanic" mask Tobias wears and enjoy the song for what it is, which is an 80s homage to Journey and ABBA (fun fact, the piano in the video, and in the studio mix is the same piano from most of ABBAs more famous songs). Its so catchy, youll find yourself humming it hours later.
Oooh 😮
This is manipulöation disguised as a klove saong according to Tobias
Most people mispronounce the name of this song the first time they read it. It's actually pronounced: "Sir-ees", with hard "S" sounds at both the beginning and the end. It's tricky because it's a name, and names are arbitrary to however each individual person with that name chooses to pronounce their name. And also "Cirice" doesn't actually appear anywhere in the lyrics, so we never get to hear what his pronunciation is. Anyway, great video. Just subbed and liked.😊
Maddy actually pronounced it perfectly. Cancerslug1138, you're pronouncing it wrong. Listen again to Maddy's pronunciation at the start of the video. That's the correct pronunciation. Cirice is not the name of a person. Cirice is the ancient Algo-Saxon (Old English) word for "church", from which our modern English word "church" is directly descended. Fascinating stuff! And ties in very well to Ghost's hilariously cringey thematic schtick.
@@joecal2360 It's a Tobias Forge song. He wrote it. He pronounces it "Sir-ees". If we were discussing Anglo Saxon grammar, then yeah, you're argument might have some merit. But that's NOT what the video is about. It's about the Ghost song "Cirice" written by Tobias Forge. So direct your next comment at him and tell him that he's wrong.
@@GulsCult Ghost themselves say that it's "chi-ri-che". In a radio interview they mention how it's funny that in their native language, modern Swedish, it still sounds close to the ancient Anglo-Saxon pronunciation, closer to "shi-ri-sheh", so you can really hear the family resemblance in the etymology between the modern Swedish word "kyrka" ("shi-ri-she" or actually closer to "shu-ri-shuh" because of the retroflex consonants) and the Old English word "cirice". Then they talk about how the "k" sound in "kyrka" is where the Englsh name "Kirk" comes from, and then they go off on a tangent about Kirk Hammett. Lmao! No need to get defensive though bro, it's not that deep. It's fun to talk about rock-n-roll lore! Peace
@@joecal2360 ghost doesn't have any long-term members they are interchangeable and changed out all the time. Tobias Forge is the only member. He writes all the songs music and lyrics. There is no ghost. They don't do interviews as a band. The only interviews they do is Tobias alone. He used to do them in a ghoul mask as a member and not as papa. Because it was too complicated to get made up into the papa mask and costume all the time. So he would go out as a ghoul. But it is always him and him alone who does interviews. So you did not see or hear interviews with the band. There is no band. Get that out of your head.
This is from the Stephen Colbert show. I think Tobias told Steven how to pronounce the song.ua-cam.com/video/vTXW-tO-fOs/v-deo.htmlsi=sn5r_dPd3FZh_Z5x
@@joecal2360 I'm waiting..........
You've been ghosted!
Ghost is the best..
"ser-eese"
Proteusblack8913, you're pronouncing it wrong. It's not pronounced "ser-eese".
@@joecal2360 um... That's how the girl's mother pronounced it in the video... And any Ghost fan will agree with this pronunciation. 👀
Cirice= Seer-A-see but A for effort on the pronunciation 😜
Thank you 😆
@@MaddyReactions you’re welcome but I kinda lied. It turns out that’s actually the Spanish pronunciation for it. I copied the wrong one before. It’s an old English word that means church. I believe the English pronunciation is (Cer-Reese) and it’s about the abusive relationship between the church (organized religion) and it’s followers. Basically, comparing them to a cult, as you suggested.
Ghosts who gimmick is built around satanism and anti-religion/church because of all of the misleading, lies, corruption and greediness within those institutions.
They’re an awesome band and yeah, very different….but very talented and they write very catchy and fun music. Keep going down the rabbit hole with Rats, Call Me Little Sunshine, Square Hammer, Dance Mcabre from then. Can’t go wrong really.
Bruno, both of your suggested pronunciations are wrong. Listen again to Maddy's pronunciation at the start of the video. She pronounced it perfectly.
your face at 2:20 is priceless lmfao
🥲😂
I think its fair to say, even by honest Ghost fans, that Tobias's vocals are the weakest link of the band...he has no real range and his first register sits quite high, for a male...that being said, it absolutely grows on you. While I'm fonder of this Ghost, the whole catalog contains many catchy melodies and really good riffs...he is an excellent "accessible metal" songwriter. He Is is a beautiful song....
I can’t imagine anyone else’s voice with this music, so that’s saying something!
Interesting idea but I feel like they never went anywhere with it. A lot more could have been done. Boring.
