Thank you to western beekeeping experience and technical transfer.

Enjoyed that, thanks, as you say it's good to try different methods to find something that suits the individual beekeeper. That golden rod looks great, does it grow naturally or is it managed, in the UK we don't get much if it except in our gardens. it's been a bit sad here over the past few days
    Take care.

Thanks. That is natural Goldenrod. It is mowed once a year and does well.
I once again made some videos this year with Demaree and they did much better this year.
      Thanks for watching.

Move the old queen up top and leave one cell in the bottom with one frame of brood. Don’t forget to use a double screen board and not a queen excluder. You’re allowing that bottom box to regain its nurse bees. Keep the nurse bees out of the bottom box.

I have done this too when they have their mind set on swarming and I find a capped or near capped cell in the brood chamber. I will leave one cell, remove the others, move the Queen and a small split up top. The old Queen continues to lay and contribute to the population until the new Queen starts to lay, then I split off the old Queen. I never made a video of that but it's an option too. Maybe a video idea for next spring.

Hello Tony! I'm glad to hear that you had a great queen rearing season. Wow, moving brood frames every 7 days is a lot of work, glad they were exploding.

Hi Dan. It was an interesting experiment. Demaree somewhat worked but too much work to prevent swarming. I got some real nice Queens this year. Good overall year.

This Dan guy sent me here. I was watching Black Mountain Honey on YT. His option for Demaree was same as yours except 4 foundations in lower brood chamber. He had swarm cells late August finally. Lol. No swapping frames.

Check out my Demaree videos from last year. I did better, no swarming at all and better honey production.
I take splits in late June or early July after I harvest honey in mid June. I raise Queens in summer and requeen all production hives in the fall.
It's an option. I like it. Works for me. Give it a shot.

    Hello Tony
You did a great job and your explanation is so informative and interesting. Maybe doing the Demaree with two brood boxes below the first excluder will have a better inhibition effect on swarming

In MN commercial guys do Demary way before sights of swarming and gave just one fr of brood or nothing.
They put all brood on top of 1st deep over excluder, so bees do not make a qc.
No swarming 4-5 weeks. Then honey flow..

Hi Tony just found your videos today as I was searching Demaree Method for swarm control. Enjoyed the content! I am wanting to curb swarming while maximizing a honey harvest. Last year I just made splits and kept them in check and had a decent honey harvest. But looking at all the options. You might know my Amish uncle, painter Neil Miller and has a Winchester address?? He had some bees a while ago. I am from Holmes County. Thanks Again.

Be sure to go back and watch my first video where I originally set the hives up. I had mixed results. Although developed here in the states, it is mostly used in England. It has its benefits and I'll try it again this year. Thanks for watching! I'll have more videos this year as I really enjoy sharing my journey with these amazing creatures.

Surprised you wouldnt just continually pull 2 brood frames and make a nuc every week. Every production colony giving you a nuc a week would be a sustainable practice I presume. 10 production hives doing this for 10 weeks would create quite the side hustle

    • @tonywestsbees6042

That will help deter swarming but the idea on this method is to build up as big of a field force as possible for honey production. In my opinion, it's a fail. Either pull frames like you said or requeen after a small split when they get to the point of swarming. These methods are definitely better for most people.

The one that produced the best honey crop, how many pounds of honey did u get?

    • @tonywestsbees6042

Check out my newer videos on Demaree. In 2022, we had NO swarming and spring honey production ran from 125 to 200 pounds per hive. In our area, typical splitting to prevent swarming, most only get maybe 60 to 80 pounds per hive of spring honey with the split making no surplus spring honey.

Do you have Japanese Knot weed available to your bee's?

Why not show the queen that you put in top hive.

    • @tonywestsbees6042
      @tonywestsbees6042  2 роки тому

We sometimes use the top box to raise a new Queen but once she is laying we pull her to use elsewhere. We have ran two Queen hives but not often.
