The 2000s films hit different. They're like a combination of experimenlism, wackyness and the right amount of gothness that I think we're not going to see again
ikr. I was born in 2004 so maybe thats why I love early 2000s movies and music so much. this feel I particular just feels so good to me. the word I use most commonly to describe this style id "Depressing", and yet, I love it
This movie was a fever dream in my mind for years, I genuinely started thinking I just had a super vivid dream about it when I was 7. I could never remember the title and all my friends thought I was weird. After doing some digging, I'm glad it actually exists.
Me too, I remeber watching this in tv with my dad as a kid, and I thought that didnt actually happen, that it was a dream, but now that I found the movie I so exited to watch it again
I've been thinking about this movie for years and couldn't remember the title. Thank goodness my husband remembered..I can watch it again as a 30 yo! I'm sure I forgot the entire thing
I remember seeing this once as a kid, never saw it again and would randomly remember it at odd times over the years. I could never recall the name of it and for years I've been searching for it. Legit thought it was a fever dream I had once. But I'm so happy I found it today, it just randomly came to me and after scouring Google for a good hour I finally found it. Ngl I shedded a tear out of pure relief that I actually found the movie
This movie is so surreal and timeless, its visual effects will still be astonishing in 1000 years. Doesn’t matter about the realism, because it’s as realistic as it needs to be, as imaginary objects and creatures. Textures don’t have to mimic the creatures and materials they’re based on. It’s a world of imagination. It’s so mystifying, I’m 33 and I ask if friends/partner wants to watch it when we have nothing to get done on a rainy day or cloudy night. Such a great original story and fantastic visuals/music
It really is such a masterpiece of a movie. One day, I'd love to make a sequel TV series or something but have the CGI stay the same, so it all has that same feeling.
@@miracon000fez ....Don't think so. We're just different. I bet Shannon also like "Labyrinth", "What Dreams May Come", "A Wrinkle In Time", "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus"...
"eye-scorching screen candy...a gorgeous effects-driven fantasy flick.." got the eye-scorching part right, but the sphinx is anything but gorgeous, even for 2005 cgi
I had my bf watch this and he thought it was weird. I’m like ‘okay, I’ll just love my little cozy movies all to myself, the ones that make me remember feeling young and hopeful and alive.’
I only saw the trailer once in my life and never heard anything about it again. I thought that it was either canceled it or I was imagining the whole thing.
1:16 When the music pops off, and the visuals get all blurry, it reminds me of that edgy cringy anti-piracy ad that played before a ton of the 2000's DvDs: "YoU wOUldN'T SteAL a Car. YOu WouLDN'T STeaL a HANdbAG... PIraCY IS sTEALing! STEaLINg IS...AGAint... THe.... LAW!"
After years of searching, Jim Henson's magic brought a movie to life that had eluded me. There are so many films and shows whose titles escape me, remembered only by the faces of their characters. Remember Figaro Fo? It took me a year to unearth that memory again. As for Mirrormask, I've been on the hunt for about 6 or 7 years now. While looking up "Phantom of the Paradise," a cat with a bizarrely human-like face appeared, instantly recognizable from my childhood nightmares. Finally, after relentlessly asking my mom about it (she's the one who brought the DVD home), "Mom, do you remember that movie with the girl who's dreaming and those eerie cats with human faces!?" Haha, finally, I can watch this movie without the nagging feeling of forgotten memories.
Took me almost a year to find this movie, all i remember is the girl went to a very dark world, its like an ink world with weird creature. 😭 finally ive found it 😭😭😭😭
Had the sdvd. Watched 1/3 of the way in then scratched. 😭😭😭 I tried so hard to save the movie but it was long gone. Nvr got to finish such a beastly film.
This movie was so fantastical and visually stunning. Yes, they needed to do more with the store and make the narrative stronger, but I genuinely loved this movie and enjoyed the early-2000ness of it. I rarely say this, but I feel like this is a book/movie that could do with a remake/reboot.
I just wish the story and direction had been more involving. Ever see an incredible movie you wished you liked more... but it was do 'distant' you could only admire it?
I'm about to watch this by myself. I found it at my public library but I'm kinda scared since I live in middle of nowhere in the woods alone. Gulp (knot on my throat).
Just spent the last 30 minutes at 2:30am trying to remember this movie because I randomly thought of it and it was driving me crazy! I even tried to get Google Gemini to try and help me but it was just pushing around in circles asking me the same questions... All I could remember was that it was like Alice in Wonderland, it was dark, had a lot of sepia tones and thought it was done by ILM and that Helena Bonham Carter was in it (turns out she just kind of looks like her with that haircut, but the girl's name was Helena in the movie. Weird coincidence!) Then I remembered it was maybe The Jim Henson Company so I Googled it myself and but no movies by Jim Henson were coming up like Mirrormask. Finally I thought it was Mirrormax, which ended up giving me Miramax movie studio references and then a suggestion for Mirrormask! The madness is over!

9/11 was a dark time in which made our culture dark and angst.
The Crow had a similar vibe.

SAME OMG
ALSO SAME
Sameeee, especially that scene where "Close to You" is being played, that song led me to the title of the movie
SAME OOOOOOMGGG
THATS WHAT JUST HAPPENED AND HOW I AM HERE NOW.
This is so early 2000's it hurts but in the best way
Wouldn't it be more mid-2000s?
The Crow had a similar vibe.
All I remembered about this film from my childhood was people with boots for heads and now I’m so excited to watch it again with a new perspective

Agree it is a very underrated movie
Wow the editing of this trailer screams 2000s.

Probably the most underrated fantasy films of the early 2000s.
I always loved this movie as a kid. I wish I could watch it again somewhere
I absolutely adore this movie-
Wish it had a fandom
This is such an amazing under rated/known fantasy film. Definitely one of my favs 🙂

I love that epic music 80% of early 2000’s movie trailers have, so unnecessary but nostalgic 😂
Watching this now in 2023 ! I became fascinated with this movie years ago and always wanted to own it !
