My real name is Tad, but DonKawaii/Don was simply an IGN name I created playing FF14 online, so I kinda just rolled with it. Lol. You can call me either one. I am also a teacher, and I teach people dance. And normally, I teach my students dance through sharing my own choreography, giving people drills or exercises to build foundation and technique. and I've been dancing for 15 years mainly growing up through Hip Hop dance culture, but have also taken inspiration from other dance artforms such as ballet, jazz, and tap. And how I got into K-Pop was because the main three groups, Wonder Girls, Big Bang, and SNSD. That followed with other things hallyu like korean dramas, variety shows, and the rest is history.

Why "Dance Teacher" even though you say "Dance Mentor"?
I actually consider myself both. I am not just someone who teaches dance, but I resonate more as a mentor who is there to help, train, or advise dancers to take steps into the right direction. "Dance Teacher" is a title that just makes it easier for newer people to understand what I do.
Do you actually know or speak Korean?
Baby levels. I've studied Korean 한국어 for 1 year when I was in community college. I can read and write in Korean, but I still have trouble speaking and formulating sentences.
Have you ever worked for any K-Pop artists in terms of creating choreography, backup dancers, etc.?
Yes, but not directly or in-person. I have partaken in K-Pop choreography submission projects/demos under the direction of dancers such as Pat Cruz (Kinjaz, The Company), Larkin Poynton (Project Home), and Alo Galedo (Brotherhood, The Company).

Well well well... BEcause is a "summer" song which is meant to be fun, cheery and bubbly... unless the group is Dreamcatcher which their take on a summer song is based on a Korean tradition where you tell ghost stories or visit haunted places so that you can feel the "chills" to fight the summer heat.
Officially the song unravels a story of an obsession and longing for love. One theory is that the capitalise BE in the title is used in context as the Hanja character 悲’ (‘BE’) as they sound alike and the word meaning sadness, and the title BEcause could be loosely translate as the cause of sadness, and paired with the line BEcause I like you or BEcause I love you, the sadness is caused by liking or loving someone. Also, the whole creepy toxic vibe is link to the choreography where there is a scene of someone choking another, and the lyrics about "forever mine, even your breath" and then "your face blue...like an ocean view" kind of reflect someone being strangled until the fact turns blue etc.
Also, the MV plot theme has another layer that borrowed quite a bit of plot elements from the horror movie "Us" by Jordan Peele where doppelgangers who were forced to live underground depraved of the "finer" things and are trying to are trying to take over their "privileged" above ground counterparts...won't go into much details as it would be better if you watch the movie yourself if you haven't). There are a lot of details in the MV that point to this such as the movie "Us" which has scenes depicting a hall of mirror, someone being captured and replaced, the carnival, the mask etc.; similarly the choreography also uses the movie themes such as the doppelgangers holding hand in a chain, the slight side to side head tilts, ending pose of the center member which two hand on her face, mirrored choreography etc.. There are also a few easter eggs for the doppelgangers concept such as the MV is 3:13 minute long (coincidence? I think not) , and that the opening scene and ending scene has the members in completely different outfits (with the ending outfit more whimsical), as well as the completely drain symmetrical hourglass at the end indicating that at some point, the doppelgangers replaced their original counterpart.
More impressively, musicality, it plays into the theme of opposite doppelgangers where there is a two part chorus (whimsical and cute, and a more rock follow up) and two part bridge (soft vocals followed up by a deep spoken rap with atmospherically vocals behind) trying to show this mirror duality.

This is a stand alone piece as in Dreamcatcher's summer holiday take. The mv and choreo is inspired by the movie "Us" which you can find bits and pieces of it in the choreo.

Well, well, well. Hi there! Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done.
About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. They noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you".
The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your face turns blue, blue. Your expression is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.
This song is actually grew on me. I wasn't like very down for this song but now... Everyday allday "BEcause I like you..." It has the sass that I like so I like poured myself into this ocean of sass when I changed my perspective on Dreamcatcher song I usually expect. Now I'm totally drowned
18:50 The part you're talking about with the rising is because Sua is acting as puppet master raising them up, but also the reason Gahyeon rises alone at the start is I think to make a sort of visual count for the break into the refrain. Because they rise one person, then two people, then three.
In around 18:40 when you asked why Gahyeon was the only one who rises, it's probably because SuA acted as a puppet master. You can see the other members rises according to SuA's hand movement.
Sure, but he’s saying it could have been choreographed as LL/RR/LR, L/R/LLRR, or even LR/LR/LR, with minimal modifications to SuA’s arm movements. But it is L/LR/LRR, very asymmetric and much more interesting choice.
The crown move isn't a crown, it's the top part of the Chinese character for sadness which is pronounced 'BE'. The song is about possessive love and the dance illustrates how that kind of love turns the loved one into an object, a puppet that's always controlled. The person doing the controlling is doing it because they don't want to be sad (BE). The imagery comes from the horror movie 'US' which is about how dopplegangers living beneath an American town slowly take over or replace people on the surface. Red symbolizes underground while blue represents above ground.

finally dreamcatcher reactionn. the BE part of (BE)cause can be translated to sadness or misery on chinese. so the alternate title is "cause of misery" their hand sign on "be" part also kinda look like the upper part of " 悲 "

Jiu is sexy as hell in this one, gets me with that evil smile every time. Contesting my Siyeon bias...Sua kills it too. It will grow on you. Everything they do is pretty unique. I remember the first few times I listened to Boca I wasn't sure I would get into it, as of today I've probably listened to it 100 times.

I also recommend the new BEcause Dance MV, which reveals even more about the story. And its really stunning, visually.
BEcause is a very well thought of project. It uses Image (Cinematography and Photography), Music and Lyrics, and Dance to convey different parts of the same story. I haven't seen anything like this before, on that level, even by DC. I find it really fresh and original. Each part gives us different hints to understand the whole puzzle. It's even more wild than the Nightmare series.
(Big hint: It's not just "Us", although it has inspired the visuals and storyline a lot. I believe it is used as a way to introduce us to the Doppelganger concept. But the stories don't really match).
Also, there are weird connections with the Nightmare series, but adapted to this story (eg the Pendulum - clearly visible in the Dance MV and "the Tethered" who come straight out of "Us", yet we see the witches holding hands like that in the end of Piri (and the End of Nightmare). They keep certain iconic afterimages, as you said so correctly and adjust them to the story.
