Found a old hand written family tree two years ago in the house Granda built in Ohio 60 year ago. Anse and several other Hatfield's are listed.
Wow, what a great find! Would love to see that.
Notes don't show after a couple yesrs.
Hey cousin lol
😢😢😢😢😢😢
That was interesting...thanks for the upload. Would love to see it someday.
Nancy McGee Thanks! Many more videos like this on our channel.
Just watched the Documentary ‘Feud’ on PBS. Such a fascinating time back then during the feuds.
Hey Hombre Like the Wild West. Many folk today would never survive...
@blueBeanieboos TV my son is a mcCoy
I wish the world had never advanced and we all lived like they did.... id absolutely love that life!!! And I'd either make it or break it!!!
Just discovered this channel, very interesting . I love all type of history.
me too:)
Thanks! We have so much on the way!
Thanks Family Tree Nuts ! You've taken me to places I've always wanted to go ! ! . . . 🇺🇲 . . 🌹
Well thanks for the support ma’am, so much is on the way!
Well we all go there eventually
Thank you...very interesting. Well done.
Thanks! This was one of our first videos. We plan to redo this one this summer.
God bless America!
Yes! That’s something almost all of us can agree on!
So enjoyable 🌸
Well thanks!
Devil Anse was an absolute boss! Cap was no joke either. Very interesting and charismatic persona's.
I’ve always been fascinated with Appalatchan (pronunciation) area and especially the Hatfield and McCoys. We’re here in the area on our way home to CA. Thanks so much for this video. I hope it’s not going to be too muddy hiking up to the Hatfield Cemetery.
Awesome! Enjoy that hike! We will be remaking this video this fall.
Such a interesting story.. Haven't got to check that area out but im hoping to!!
I was there 2 years ago, it is an AWESOME place, very tough walk!! But I did it, was not going to be there and not do it!
It’s fairly remote but not hard to find.
Its a tough walk by foot, its not far but steep. You will be a bit tired once you get up there.
Hey! I just viewed your videos on Lincoln and Boone. Just wanted you to know that I am a West Virginian, but live in Kentucky. You might want to know that the cemetery where your video was filmed is known to be haunted.
Uh oh! Glad we got out alive. 😀
Thanks for the video. I just got done watching the movie. N was wondering about the cemetery of the Hatfield's. It seems like they where more popular then the McCoy's.
I am a descendant from the Hatfields. My grandmother is a Hatfield.
KayFaye07 You May be descended from both! Many are! 😀
@@familytreenutshistorygenealogy that would be interesting.
My son Kane hes alive Michael branam Simmons hes Hatfield
@@headdragondavidaustinsimmo4025 my son Kane is a descendant of Randolph McCoy
You have mole under your right eye your related to me Cane Joseph Joseph Achilles Ishmael Moses Isaiah gidian yeshua
I am proud to be kin to The McCoy's. My grandmother use to tell us so many stories that her father told her. I grew up in Pikesville Ky. My grandmother took us to a trail. While we were there she dug up a 2 bullits that looked so old. I never did find out if there were from the feud. But what else could it be? I never saw them bullets again. Oh but the stories she told. I swear it was like she was there. My great grandfather probably was. I'm just glad it's over. To many people died for nothing. NOTHING.
I am related to the McCoy family. My father always told the story from the Hatfield side, but after doing some research I found that Perry Cline married a McCoy. My great grandmother Nina Cline (nee Roberts) was related to Perry Cline. Genealogy is so much FUN!
That’s awesome. It’s great to find the connections to one or both sides of stories in history.
I'm 66. My papaw is buried on the right side of the trail going up to the statue. He worked for Ance around 1916 as a mule skinner on a loggin crew,
Oh wow. That’s really cool.
I live in the Columbus area, so this isn’t that far away..I need to go check it out sometime...
Ya man, it’s a good little day trip for you. Only one stretch of road would be remote.
Ok now I know most of you may not believe me, but William Anderson(Devil Anse)is my ancestor and my great grandfather is the great great grandson of William Anderson.
Oh I definitely believe you!
You're my cousin then. My grandma's family were all from Logan and it's through her that I'm related to Johnse, and thus his dad
Obliged, Mr. Carson
Glad to bring it. I think I may redo it.
My paternal grandfather worked for Devil Anse on his hogfarm...
Proof...? Too many people out there that say things like this no offense
@@chadfalaster8275 I have no proof other than my memories of my Pa, his brothers and Granpa telling stories. Granpa died in1964 at 101 yrs. Pa died in 1988. All the rest gone now, and I am old as well. What would constitute proof? I am not offended, tis an honest question…
@@FalconRiverArtemisArchery thanks for the comment back again I didn't mean no offense I just sometimes you know how people just say things to you don't know what to believe anymore these days... I am no relation at all to the hatfields and McCoys but do enjoy the history of both parties though... I'm hoping someday I can visit some of the sites... Thank you
My stepfather is Hatfield, direct descendant of Devil Anse
That’s pretty cool.
Yes sir, and we plan to remake this video soon and make it better.
He's my many times great grandfather and a Lucinda Hatfield married a John propes and that's how our family is related to the Hatfield's
That’s a neat connection. Perhaps someday you will discover how many greats.
How far of a walk back from the road to Devil Anse's would you estimate? 10 weeks from today we hope to check in for our second trip to Rockhouse. Our first was in 2010 prior to ATV access to the cemetery.
Maybe 400 yard or so, but it’s up a hill.
I walked up there a few days ago, its steep and will take your breath by the time you get up there. My legs were wobbly and I had to rest once I was up there. Don't go when its muddy, its too steep.
That’s my 7th great grandfather❤️❤️ Im glad I can share a bloodline with him:)
Really cool.
My stepfather is one
i think its cool how im a great grand son to this man i have his nose and eyes. I've done some digging and found out i have a photo of him and his wife that no one has its only in the family!
Oh wow, that would be a treasure.
There are some Hatfields in my mother's Cantrell Family Line.
Maybe you have some McCoys also. Tons from the area have connections to both.
My SIL is a Hatfield. Devil Anse is one of her Great Grandfathers (I think her 3rd but that might not be right)
That’s super cool. It would be pretty easy to find out for sure. Literally minutes.
My kids a Hall his uncle Ansel Ray is named after him, I tease my son cause my cousin is his cousin twice cause he's also a Hatfield.
Really cool stuff
My grandmother is a Hatfield, her name Ursa Mae Hatfield (Worthy),
I am interested in her family tree...Please Help 🤗
Thank you.
Plz respond
Hello there! We certainly build family trees for clients here. If you go to our website, we have our plans listed on there. If you see one that you like, let us know & we will get you on the list! Here is the website- www.familytreenuts.org
How many people in the comment section seen the movie Hatfields and McCoys??? Great movie about two families that fuded against each other.
My family was in a much bigger fued. The Hatfield and McCoy fued had a Romeo and Juliet story but this was not a big fued at all compared to others in Eastern Kentucky
Yes their are several and we plan to do more videos about them. This one gained fame because it got media attention.
@@familytreenutshistorygenealogy the Bloody Breathitt fued had media attention when it happened. When the national guard were dispatched it was the headline story in the big papers above Custer's last stand
@@familytreenutshistorygenealogy Tom White was my great great Grandpa. The Bloody Breathitt fued was the deadliest fued ever on American soil
You most likely don’t know but he was not a Captain in the Civil War . He was private only for the few months he was enlisted before he deserted.
My husbands friend was related the Devil Lanse Hatfield. He was his great, great great grandson to Mr. Hatfield. He looked the spitting image of him, they could have been twins. Reincarnated or what. Very weird. He was a Lineman for DTE. His name was Will Cisco.
Wow! Isn’t that amazing how genetics work???
Great history, but just have to ask: Did Devil Anse's parents really name him that? If so, how would a child grow up to be anything BUT a renegade?
Great question. The story that I’ve always heard was he had a relative with the same name who was a preacher. I think they called him “Good Anse” or something like that. That the other with the nickname “Devil”. Nicknames are interesting as to how they are earned.
Wonder where the money came from for that Headstone had to be extremely expensive
The family wasn’t known to be poor. I think that is part of the story too.
Hatfields were well to do
Went to school 50 years ago with two of the Hatfield descendants.
That’s pretty cool.
That is my distance cousin
Really cool.
What is the story behind his name? or nick name Devil
Well apparently there was two Anderson Hatfields and one I've heard was a preacher or something. He was Preacher Anse, I think, so the other one was Devil Anse.
@@familytreenutshistorygenealogyyea his brother in the movie was a preacher but they never said his nickname. Devil Anse just called him Anse. He was the father of Cotton Top Hatfield.
Why does Russ look so familiar?
Haha, well, I’m from Central Ohio & live in Central Kentucky. How about you?
one of his kids are my first cousin.
Really cool connection.
I'm a relaative!💖
Really cool!
Why is none of my family history adding up
Well, not sure how to answer that one haha
Much respect to Hatfields ! RIP .
I’m familiar with this story
We plan to redo this video soon. This was one of our first ones.
Why is my great great grandpappy's picture everywhere???????? l
I guess because he was such an interesting fellow.
Ok, my bad
@@familytreenutshistorygenealogyOK, my bad, just protective
@@familytreenutshistorygenealogy I wasn't aware my family was famous other than Great Sachem Yellowfeather
In the mini series Hatfield's and McCoys, Anse is portrayed as a confederate deserter? How did he attain the rank of Captain? Stolen Valor?
Would have to do some digging there. I know his unit was men that were in that area.
randolph mcCoy is my sons great grandfather 4th generation. Really irks me that devil Anse got such a expensive statue for his headstone when Randolph got a plain one!! After all Devil Anse's family started the feud.
Uh oh! You may reignite the feud! Haha
WHAT irks me is you complaining about the headstone for Randolph and do nothing about it---if you are related then get the rest of your relatives to buy one that you think is PROPER for him, after all that is what the HATFIELDS did. MC COYS STARTED THE FEUD SO GO PAY FOR YOUR RELATIVES HEADSTONE OR SHUT UP!
@@alicephillips3214 you tell her Alice!!!!!!
@@familytreenutshistorygenealogyhahaha here we go again 😅
@@Roger-hp1yg 😳haha
If I was alive back then I would have stood with the Hatfields
I think you are in the majority there.
May I ask why?
Today I just found out he is my descendant
You mean you are his descendent?
Really cool!
Cant be or youd be dead...do you mean ancestor?
“A-pa-lat-cha”
Haha, I know, I know… I have tons of other videos with the correct pronunciation. I cringe hearing it here too, but in my defense, the fact that you felt the need to bring it up, it’s obviously a very common mistake.
However I can recognize my blood when I see them
Some say that is an ancient survival trait.
Navel Insign.. not Battle Flag.
Right. Do you feel empowered now?
That is the battle flag of 'The Army of Northern Virginia', in which he never served. ... but historical accuracy totally unimportant!
I think sometimes historical images have changing meanings over time. It is important to get the story straight but sometimes the meaning changes.
@@familytreenutshistorygenealogy battle flags dont change like that
@@Tinysteading What is “official” isn’t always the norm. Ask 100 random people on the street what that flag is.
Why is everyone so goddamn secretive?
Secretive about what?
It’s pronounced Appa latcha
It’s becoming annoying to me to. This video is 3 years old. I’m actually pretty sure that you commented the same thing on another video. Honestly, I hear it pronounced that way 10 times a day on UA-cam, so you should be pretty busy making this same comment.
Why couldn't you name them all.
Guess that would take a long video. Could do that someday.
Love seeing that REBEL flag!!
He was no Capitan but he was a deserter and that flag should be yellow to match the stripe down his back.
He was a Captain but yes he did desert.
@@familytreenutshistorygenealogy a Captain of what then? He was a Private then he deserted...not all thst unusual for the time on either side. But confused then why say be was a Captain? Was it a nickname he gave himself or others did.? Hatfields big on nicknames.. Or what was he a Captain of? Cant say be is but we dk of what at the same time.
@@Tinysteading Well during the time of militias that came and went, often with the local flow of active military, it could have been voted on, and one could be a “Captain” of just a few men. Often there isn’t any paperwork for that.
The rebel flag needs to be rethought in this day and age. Get over it the south lost the war 150 years ago.
Lady it is just a sign of respect for an American soldier. Both sides were American veterans for petes sake. And yes I an from up North and also a historian.
Look up st Andrew's cross,
We can all enjoy history and love each other God created us all we need each other.
Carol Cooke or better yet people just should mind their own dam business and stay the fuck out everyone else's. Just because you don't know true history and dont like something gives you no right to try and take it from those of us that do know the truth
Go take it down,I Double Dog Dare you ! :)
Need to lose the flag !
Not hardly.
Wrong there scooter that flag represents they fault for family and their country not just slavery like people are led to believe . This is free america they can fly whatever flag they want
Let fly high and proud it ain't coming down
