      It doesn't matter if the people he shot were white, he shot up BLM protesters, which are obviously people against white supremacy. How do you forget about all of that? Yeah white people were put in prison for protesting during civil rights,not comparing the level of the instances, but obviously if a white supremacist system sees a threat of white people being against it they would suppress them all together regardless of their race. I'm not arguing that he got away because he's white, although that my help, but I know he got away because of stupid gun laws that often favor right wing white people regardless...

      Also there is a big difference between simply just being a white person and being an upholder of oppressive style white culture. Just as there is a difference between being white and enforcing "whiteness". It's really not that complex.

Maybe you don't, but as a right leaning centrist, I definitely care about black people. The reason I would love the idea of a black guy defending himself from white Antifa members is not for the sake of the benefit of my political party (especially since I don't identify with a specific party), but it's because I love to see black people realize and stand up against the actual problem, rather than eating up the idea that they should join them in burning buildings. And kudos to the judge for being able to wrap his head around the concept enough to recognize that it should be cleared up.
      People dismissing it out of hand because they don't understand how pictures and video can be and are modified when zooming are being annoyingly arrogant in their ignorance and even if the conclusion is that the software wasn't in play, that doesn't mean that the people dismissing it were correct in dismissing it.
      And I don't think the judge said that it was a problem or not, just that they should know if it is or isn't before allowing the evidence. So I don't think you can say that he was wrong, because he didn't make a positive claim one way or another.

    The prosecution’s “smoking gun” in this case, is essentially a computer created Rorschach test. There’s readily available video footage of the exact same moment from the ground CLEARLY showing Kyle never pointed the rifle, not even for a second.
    In the prosecutions cherry picked video stills, there’s a light colored “blob” they’re claiming is Kyle’s hand, and if you watch the video, (and not just the 2 frames from it) that white blob is there before Kyle even gets there. It’s like the bumper of a car or something, and yet they’re hinging their entire case on it.

      100% that can be appealed if he's convicted based on it. They should honestly object in the closing statement if they start saying " the image shows Kyle rittenhouse pointing his gun". That's something for the jury to decide and the state can't testify about what the jury should see in an image. Protesting against faulty police institutions/practices doesn't warrant militarized vigilantyism.

    the simplest way to explain interpolation is if you have nine pixels in an image and six are all the same colour the computer ditches five of the pixels, takes the colour value and assigns it to those five, it actually throws information away. it doesn't "store the pixel" just the location and colour. (0-254).
    when it comes to phones lenses are pretty terrible, look at an SLR then compare that to the pinprick of a lens on a phone. it's software that makes the image, and if you zoom in on digital camera images they are pretty awful. it's why digital cameras have such big lenses.

    There also seems this sinister undertone that they hate Rittenhouse because he didn’t tolerate lawlessness. Like the “cool” kids bullying on a “nerd” because he asked the teacher if the cool kids could be quiet during class. It is not that they think he did something horrible, they just don’t want their fun spoiled by some do-good-er. You even hear people say that if he walks it will set a precedent as if that is a bad thing. Oh no maybe more people will attend riots to make sure the vandalism doesn’t get out of hand. So horrible, that infringes on the right to assault and vandalize.
    If you are not someone who abuses legit protests to riot and vandalize at night what exactly are you so scared of?
    Of course normally it is the job of the police but they aren’t omnipotent. If you have months of riots and vandalism all over the country of course people are going to take measures into their own hands. What else are they supposed to do, just let them destroy their livelihood? If you are not a vandal why do you feel so attacked by the idea that people will

    I’ve got my B.S. in Physics. I’ve only ever heard terminal velocity discussed in the context of an object accelerating towards some point while traveling through a fluid (liquid or gas). If you fire a bullet between 0°-90° from the horizontal, it stops accelerating towards the direction it was fired from once it exits the muzzle. Mathematically, terminal velocity requires a net zero acceleration so a bullet fired horizontally doesn’t have a “terminal velocity” because it will experience a drag force (acceleration) in the direction opposite of its motion.

    • @merlotpapi4930
      @merlotpapi4930 2 роки тому

      You're right that for a vertically fired bullet, there is a net zero acceleration but only at the apex, the reason why there is a terminal velocity is because Earth is pulling the bullet back down to earth with a constant force G. This produces a constant acceleration g which produces a constant velocity (based on the mass of the object) v_t. A horizontally fired bullet experiences drag that is proportional to distance traveled. That's why snipers have to take into account wind direction despite how powerful sniper rifles are and how big .50 Cal bullets are. A horizontally fired bullet will continue traveling until the force of the Earth's gravity overcomes the work generated by the bullet traveling from the barrel. That's why it curves down. But after the curve, yes there is a terminal velocity.

    • @man.dingus
      @man.dingus 2 роки тому

      @@merlotpapi4930 You misread my statement. I said that if a bullet is fired between 0°-90° from the horizontal, it stops accelerating in the direction it was fired once it leaves the muzzle. I didn’t say it ceases to accelerate completely. The second thing I said was that the mathematical definition of terminal velocity requires net-zero acceleration, which won’t happen for a bullet fired horizontally due to drag.
      Moreover, there’s still an acceleration due to gravity at the apex of a trajectory- otherwise objects wouldn’t fall. Perhaps you mean it has zero vertical velocity.

    • @tballa8750
      @tballa8750 2 роки тому

      As a fellow physics undergrad, this is correct. Terminal velocity is the balance of forces from drag and gravity. Since gravity is being ignored in a horizontal case there is no force to counteract drag (negligible at least). Fact check true.

      He seems to assume common interpolation algorithms have some sort of intelligent or heuristic logic, which they (mostly) don't. 99% of image scaling anyone is doing is Bilinear or Bicubic interpolation, which are both just fancy ways of averaging out the surrounding pixels to fill out the missing part. There are machine learning based upscaling algorithms which actually "invent" information, but they're not commonly used.
      I have yet to see a case where those common interpolation methods do something that tricks human perception into seeing something new where there was nothing in the original.
      I would be VERY concerned about video compression algorithms and noise suppression that might have happened on the phone recording the video though - those can and do produce artifacts that look like stuff that isn't really there, and they have a much larger impact than some interpolation. In this case, I think the image is extremely dubious and should not be allowed because it's such a small portion of the image with such low resolution, but not because of the interpolation happening to display it.

      IMO a somewhat appropriate and intuitive analogy would be this: Imagine a vertical bar chart with 10 bars, fluctuating about. Now imagine the same 10 data points, but shown as a line chart, with a straight line connecting every point. Was data invented? There is none between the points, so you could say the lines suggest there's something there that doesn't exist, but it depends. It would be inappropriate to point at the line chart and suggest that some point between to actual data points is precisely the value the line shows there. However, unless you do that, both charts probably convey the same message in most cases.

    I bet if there was a change in judges to one who was literally like "Yeah, we're gonna get this fuckin' Rittenhouse guy a huge sentence." early on and a bunch of rightwingers reasonably started complaining about it being biased, there would be AT LEAST SOME people on the left like Hasan being like "No, this is not biased at all. Look at all these rightwingers just malding because they couldn't have that previous judge who was actually biased."
    Like, no matter how biased a judge might be against Rittenhouse, people like Hasan would probably argue that they are in fact not biased so long as the judge's biases validate their own biases (which is probably why they shouldn't be judges)...

    8:10 in theory you can hit terminal velocity going any direction (horizontally, vertically etc) but we usually talk about it in cases where air resistance perfectly cancels out the gravity force, which gives constant velocity from newtons first law. The models for air resistance usually scales with v^2, and it varies with the fluid density for instance. If you have some constant force you apply a bullet with continiously, it will due to the fluids resistance (the drag force or air resistance) cancel out at the velocity which yields equal resistance as the applied force.
    However with a gun shot it’s an instantenous force applied, so the concept of terminal velocity doesn’t apply in the horizontal direction. The total velocity when the bullet lands will be the
    sqrt(terminal velocity in y-direction^2 + whatever remaining horizontal velocity^2). This is given that the angle of the initial shot is steep enough for terminal velocity to be reached in the vertical velocity component, which I would think is a safe assumption.
    For straight up shot the velocity it will hit the ground with is just the terminal velocity, which will be less since you just have one less squared term in the total velocity equation

    • @sverre1611

      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminal_velocity
      Terminal velocity refers to the gravity force specifically, so referring to horizontal terminal velocity doesn’t make sense.
      But as explained you can apply a constant forces in horizontal direction. Then that force will eventually be cancelled out by the drag force, which will be at a certain velocity. Lets say a car’s max force applied in a horizontal straight line (ignoring things like friction), you can maybe say that this car has a «terminal velocity», given perfect wind conditions.

    8:11 Yes, you can hit terminal velocity going sideways, but it is still the vertical axis velocity (gravity forces vs air resistance).
    There is no force added in the horizontal axis after the shot has been fired so the horizontal speed is approaching zero.
    There is a force pulling the bullet (arrow would be a great example here as well) in vertical axis - this force is called force of gravity.
    Terminal velocity is reached when the freefalling object (let's assume it's perfectly round etc) is pulled towards gravity force source (Earth) and this force is equal to the air resistance force.
    Soo... firing a shot at an angle is creating a real danger (you do not shoot directly up as you've said). This principle was used by the longbowmen - they shot arrows in a way they were "dropping" above enemies - they were not relying on the bow's force, they relied on the force of gravity pulling arrows towards Earth, towards enemies.

Sure, the air resistance opposes the bullet in horizontal axis, even if it did not - the terminal velocity would be the max velocity + gravity force (drop height needed) after shooting which is way faster than the vertical terminal velocity caused by the gravity/air. Additionally, you always have to consider this kind of shot as a combination of forces/axis since you do not take celebratory shots/warning shots 100% horizontally :) I'd say it's like 15° angle from the vertical axis so most of the bullet kinetic energy goes into overcoming gravity (+air resistance always, heat :) ).

      2 Things. In a Vacuum in a level surface if I shot something straight up it would come down at the same speed it would not come down faster unless the target was on lower ground (Direct arrow shots were used more often so I heard, but that doesn't matter) if we talk about it moving through air it may slow down a bit. Long story short it is only dangerous cause of the speed it is leaving at which is still pretty fast and all that ENERGY can transfer which would still be pretty nasty even with the reduction in energy, but not cause of gravity (Unless the height is lower and it has not reached terminal velocity)
      Second Thing. The commenter was talking about Projectiles and Horizontal Terminal Velocity. Your description was for the vertical component. Being that there is drag force and no aiding force after the bullet left the gun you SHOULD NOT need to care cause drag will accelerate the bullet in the negative direction until it's velocity hits zero. Unless there was a constant force aiding the bullet in the horizontal direction I don't think you would get the Horizontal Terminal Velocity.

    "Terminal velocity" applies to objects falling due to gravity. It's when the force of gravity becomes equal to the force of air drag. If a bullet is shot up, eventually it will fall back down. The bullet will eventually fall at a constant speed aka terminal velocity. There is no such thing as "horizontal terminal velocity" unless you're just talking about the maximum speed of a bullet which is probably at the tip of the barrel.
