I just heard from the dealer today that if you install the short tail tidy from Yamaha the side cases won't fit, because of the blinkers! Take that into account if you're planning to make such a mod, even with other brands of tail tidies.
if you want a tail tidy guess you can go with integrated tail light turn signals :) www.motodynamic.com/2014-2016-yamaha-fz-09-fj-09-sequential-led-tail-lights-clear.html
You should be also careful if you're installing kappa-givi engine bars kn-2122 on the Tracer 2018. They are tight against the front blinkers, as they (blinkers) are much lower on the Tracer 2018.
Hello from Czechia, very, really very useful comparison of the models, more detailed than I read in the moto magazines ever, because Tracer is on my list of my future bikes. 😉
Ahh man, you’re spoiling us. Two videos in this week.... haha, great dude. I hope you’ll enjoy it. The new one looks like it packs some great options and extra’s... looks better too imo. Have fun!
A lot of people asked about the seat compatibility with the previous model. I asked someone to test this for me, and here's the info I got: - the rider seat of the 2018 Tracer will fit the 2015-17 models; - the passenger seat of the 2018 Tracer will NOT fit the 2015-17 models. So if you want to improve comfort on your 15-17 Tracer, the new seat might be an option. I want to make a video on this but I need to find access to a 15-17 Tracer since mine is already gone. Wait for the video if you want to play safe.
CR- Congrats on your new GT.I own a '15 FJ-09 and am looking forward to testing the GT here in the States when they become available in the Fall.I enjoyed your '15 mod videos and am looking forward to your ride review and any new mods on your GT.Thanks again for your time and effort to keep us informed. Great Video! I have the same 15 Fj 09 here in the states and will be doing the same as you and purchasing the new 2018 Tracer once it is available here. Look forward to you future videos on this bike.
Was the Tracer GT 2018-2020 supplied with such side trunks included, or was it still an additional option for a fee? I'm asking because I'm currently looking at an option on the secondary market and most of the GT's of these years are sold without side bags.
Hi, would love to see a full review of the tracerGT while riding the bike on all 3 modes & quick shifter. Have been waiting for one in english as most of the review on youtube is not in english
what is the meaning of the two different mm sizes of the new handlebars? i have a 2016 model and they are just way to wide to ride comfortably. i am 5.6" tall and apparently i have shorter arm length. when riding aggressively i almost have to sit up on the tank..... is there a big noticeable difference between the two? thank you
Another great video, thanks for taking the time out to publish it. I have a 2015 Tracer and love it, I may look at a GT as a second bike as I live half the year in Spain and half in the Uk. On the new GT can you fit a top box on it ?, like yourself I fitted the Shad system on my 2015 model. I would need a top box as I tour with my wife and she likes having the support behind her. Keep up the great work!
TY for the video. One question I never hear answered about the FZ MT 09 is regarding fuel economy. I've ruled out the FZ 10 for a number of reasons. One being poor fuel economy. What has your experience been on the Tracer for fuel consumption?
I track the fuel consumption of all my vehicles in detail using Spritmonitor. The 2015 Tracer had, after 20686 km (12854 miles) an average fuel consumption of 5.06 L/100 km (46.49 mpg - US gallon). The 2018 Tracer GT has an average fuel consumption, after 4795 km (2979 miles) of 4.95 L/100 km (47.52 mpg - US gallon). The difference between them is negligible, probably the type of roads I rode in are what accounts for the difference.
Wow, Thanks for the fast follow up. Greatly appreciated. I'm pretty much spending my afternoon looking at what will become my next bike. 47mpg pretty much solidify's my choice. When added to Yamaha reliability it makes the choice easy for me. I'm currently long in the tooth on my current Sport Touring bike, an 05 VFR800. Which has proven to be Bullet Proof. The added torque and HP of the Yamaha is also a deciding factor for the rare occasion when my wifey is on back. Thanks again. PS, can I get a get a job application from you? LOL, just joking, I retire next month and plan to ride the Western States for 6 mos +/-.......Next Spring/Summer.
Good morning from Greece! Lovely bike! I wish you have infinite km with it. I put it on my program to buy it at the same color. Please be noticed that it has also an adjustable shift light on the dashboard, as it is from R1. As for the suspension, it has compression adjustment, that the old one didn't. At the end...the price is BANG for what it gives you, compared to other bikes in the same category! Be safe and ride even more!
@@MotoRiderTube Is the new handguard screw shorter? Not an issue for me, I took the handguards off! They threw off my depth perception when lanesplitting and they didn't block much wind anyways.
@@joevidya I don't know about the screws or mountings, but the hand guard itself is much narrower where it meets the handlebar. If you took them off, you just need to get some bar ends, maybe your current ones work.

Hey. I love the blue color but I think mat color is more scratch prone or at least scratches are more visible. I was wondering how are your pillions happy with the bike? How is it comfort wise on a longer ride?
I'm not sure about the matte color, I have to wait and see if indeed is more fragile. As for the pillions, I don't have any so I can't tell you, sorry.
Hi. Great video. I own a 2015 FJ 09 (US name for Tracer 900). I’m considering the GT. How’s the ride on the highway? Does that longer swing arm make the bike more stable on the highway at 80 mph? Thanks!
I haven't ride at those speed yet (I'm currently traveling for work) so I can't tell for sure. It feels more planted, for now, but I'm certainly going to make a video on that topic alone as soon as I have time.
Not really, this engine is really smooth. Some people complain about the metal foot pegs, but you can easily swap with rubber-covered pegs from the FJR, if you feel like it - I never felt the need.
i wish the cruise control was an option on the base model. such a desired feature, but couldnt afford to buy the gt version as $2500 more, doesnt justify the other features for my needs.

You have made me want one even more now👍😁 Update: I couldn’t wait😂😂😂😂 I called into my local dealer just to have a look at one in the flesh. I was offered a test ride so I thought it would be rude not to. I take delivery of my nimbus grey gt on 01/08/2018. I can’t wait.👍👍👍
hey just rode home on a new 2020 gt yesterday,,i think the first thing i do is gonna be pulling that windscreen off,,its terrible,,my naked fz07 wasn't nearly as bad ,,no matter what position the wind noise is awful ,,dont know how your clutch is but mine is really bad and there appears to be no way to adjust at lever ,,it doesnt engage till all the way out ,,,is yours adjustable ? thanks
Congratulations on the new bike! All naked bikes have better wind performance because it's "clean wind", undisturbed by any screen. Compared to one, all screens will be bad. You need to find one that fits you. The stock clutch lever is not adjustable on this bike, you'll have to replace with aftermarket. There are official accessories (pretty expensive) or cheap Chinese versions on Aliexpress that work as well as the expensive ones. I have a pair of Evotech Performance levers, very good and high quality.
@@MotoRiderTube agreed,,,,the air from shield actually will force my face shield down ,,i like riding with it up most of the time ,,plus the wind will reverberate in my ears which is a bit painful,,Im gonna try cutting a few inches off ,,,or re-angle it
@@MotoRiderTube so for me the shield was really bad in tall position and a bit better in low position,,i wound up cutting off about two inches and its MUCH better ,, next i will tint it , thanks for the lever info,,i was able to get a little adjustment from wheel made a lot better till new ones show up,,i replaced old mt07 with the shorty and loved the feel and look,,plus easy adjustable
Thanks for the video. What is your honest opinion of the comfort seat? I have the identical bike to you in 2020 version. I am 1.82 cm and find the standard seat very uncomfortable as it feels like I am always sliding towards the tank. It seems that the comfort seat rectifies this issue? Thanks in advance.
Hey. congratulations on your new bike. and thanks for showing the difference between the 2 bikes. I also just swapped my tracer 2016 for a tracer 900gt 2020, both bikes in the same colors as yours. What do you use to polish the new bike, because the paint is matt Sincerely, Poul
good video captures everything. how do you like the bike so far? i want to get this bike over my 3 years old MT-07. Let me know whenyou pass by Amstelveen for a ride.
@@MotoRiderTube thanks for your prompt reply and for the videos that you are kindly sharing with us. I have subscribed to your channel so please keep doing the good work!
Here as well but they only arrived a couple of weeks later (apparently they're manufactured in Germany and not Japan, so they don't come with the bike).
The '15 is a great bike, I was not unhappy with mine either!! Yamaha didn't launch the GT targeting existing owners to switch, but only to stay on top of their market and clearly aimed at potential Versys and V-Strom owners.
Thanks for the info, this time I will try to use a spoiler only instead of replacing the complete screen, like I did before. As for crash bars, I will buy new ones - the others stayed with the bike when I delivered. Video coming out soon on the old ones (long term review).
The Tracer has been my dream bike sir, when it first came out, the more I look at it, the more i fell in love with it. Sir, how comfortable is this bike for long distance touring and does the seat feels more comfortable compare to the older version?
I can't find any conclusive answer to that, but here's what I have on the SP: "Kayaba units with dual-rate springs and adjustability of both high-speed and low-speed compression damping, as well as preload and rebound damping". I don't think the Tracer GT has high-speed and low-speed compression damping (I may be wrong, haven't explored in full) so they may be different units.
I’m in the market for a new bike, currently looking at the Ducati Multistrada 950, BMW R1200 GS & GSA, but also, the Yamaha Tracers 700 and 900 which I have heard very good things about. As an all-round bike what’s your opinion and have you ever riden the other models mentioned as a comparison. Just thought it worth asking as you’ve got good experience of the Tracer.
I've only tried the GS. One thing is clear: the more expensive the bike is, the more quality you get: better components, better ride. But the Tracer is by far the most fun of this group, and the one where you get the most for what you paid. There's no reason not to go for the Tracer, unless you have too much money or you really like another one.
The Multistrada has a lot of vibrations, I did not like it. The GS is a good bike but expensive. I've ridden them all and bought the Tracer 900 GT. I just love it! It's such a versatile bike and it's looks good to :-)
Agree with Jonas.... I have the 2015 model Tracer in Australia which I simply love, but hired a brand new Ducati Multistrada 950 in Milan in April and did 900kmnin 3 days around the Lake Como and Magiorre regions. Vibrations were major....Tracer is smooth. The fittings on the Duc were a little nicer quality than my 2015 but the $$ difference is significant....looks like the new 2018 GT has stepped up the fit, feel and finish to close some.of that gap. The Duc feels like a bigger frame bike and the Tracer more agile. Great review of the differences between 2015 and 2018....builds a strong case to change over my own for the additional features.
HI, I have quick one as you are in possession of both at the moment. Mine one is 17 model almost new and I am thinking about some upgrades. Can you tell me does 18th model seat can fit on older models of Tracer 900?
I was about to ask the same question, mine is a 2016 but as I'm short I use to ride very close to the tank and in medium to long trips I really hate the seat and before the launching of the new GT I was thinking on invest a good money in a great after market seat, but now that the GT it's on the field I need to know if I buy the new AM seat only if the older seats are compatibles with the new GT seat brackets, does any one knows? Thanks in advance
I don't have both anymore, I delivered the old one to the dealer. Unfortunately I forgot to see if I could switch the seats. I have asked someone, who is going for a test ride tomorrow, to see if they can try it.
Few differences between 2017 and 2018 Tracer but massive changes from 2015 model, biggest improvement being the suspension front and rear, 2017 upwards. Not worth the change in my opinion. However the video compare the 2015 to the 2018 GT which costs a lot more than the standard 2018.model. The 2018 GT is more suited towards touring, whereas die 2017 will still be the best for wheelies than both 2018 models as the rear swingarm is shorter.
You are correct. The video is done from my perspective, where I use the bike for touring and some weekend rides. I never wheelied a (motor)bike, and I'm too old to start learning :)
Good looking bike and nice upgrades for 2018 ! I had a 2015 Kawasaki Versys 1000LT that I really liked, but wasn't doing much touring or two up, so I bought a 2016 Kawasaki Z1000, better for a solo rider !
I’m deciding between e Versys 1000 & Mt-09. Now with these Gt I’m back to square one. I was leaning towards the Kawa but now I’m seriously considering e tracer. My current bike is a Ducati Diavel with Shad panniers, I use it for touring from Singapore to Thailand. Im replacing in with either of these. My riding buddies all ride GS’s & ktm adventure bikes. Please help me decide 🙏🏽
The Versys is less exciting but more comfortable than the Tracer. With the new Tracer GT, the comfort is much better, so now you can have the excitement and the comfort all in one bike: the Tracer GT.
whats high speed ???? I just came off a 350 mile ride on new 2020GT,,and I have as many dislikes as likes with this bike ,,feel free to jump in.,,Bike has a slight wobble 40-48 mph,,not terrible,,. but its there ,,I dont want any wobble in my bike,,So higher speeds ,,60,,70,,80 plus no wobble ,,,BUT the bike feels like it wants to wobble if that makes sense,?? ,, feels like its being hit with strong side winds ,,if you mimic a wobble by tweaking the bars {not alot} it feels like it could wobble out really easy.So with that said the bike is very smooth when cruising along. whats not so smooth is the very annoying vibration at 51-55 K RPMS ,,,,also the combination of the slack in throttle on take off and the clutches late engagement gives cause for major embarrassing rookie moment. ,a flat spot on hard acceleration around 42k RPM is concerning ,,slight engine surging at low speeds 1st and 2and gear ,i can live with that ,,gas gauge,,one minute it has a full tank then boom ,,its half full ,,minor detail ,,the cluster is a cluster fuck,,hard to find turn signals and other controls ,,i wish they would at least highlite the buttons cause when you look at them at 70 mph its all black ,, ,,you need a REALLY long right thumb to operate the dash wheel,,,, if i can fix half of this shit i think it will be a great bike ,,for now im going for a ride ,hahaha
Hey, thanks for the upload. As someone who owns the 2017 version I have two questions that I hope you might know the answer to: 1) Will the new seat fit on the previous model? 2) Will the new panniers lock into the existing fitment on the subframe of the previous model? The yamaha website says that these items are compatible with previous year models but there seems to be debate if this is accurate or not.
Hey. 1) I don't know, I forgot to test it. I asked someone to test this when that person does a test-drive. 2) Yes, the "new" panniers are the same as available in the US for a few years now, and on the FJR for more than 10 years. However, due to the new passenger footpegs, you might need a different support on the footpegs.
Critical Rider Thanks for the reply mate. Just seen how expensive the panniers are to buy so might avoid that anyway. The new heated seat seems appealing though.....if it fits last year's model.
You didn't forget the outrow and say goodbey, you want to drive I think :-) You bought the 18 not at you'r normal dealer, you bought the new one in Nijmegen. Because you moved more to the North of the Netherlands. Is that right?? I like you'r details very much. There is a lot more changed than i thougt. I look forward to more diiferences and accesiores that you will discover.
I bought my previous bike also in Nijmegen. I didn't move, but the dealer in Nijmegen is very good, so I don't mind driving one hour to buy the bike from them.
That's because it's a Pirelli Angel GT, which I had installed even before the bike was delivered. The dealer kept the shit Dunlop D222 that came from factory.
First I have to ride it!! It's been sitting in the garage for more than two weeks now!! Later this week I'll have a chance to ride, and next weekend I'll be doing 800+ km on it.
Critical Rider wow that sounds like an nightmare! I tried the standard 2018 900 because the dealership 'didn't want to people to try the gt'.. But Im almost certain the gt upgrade is worth the extra bucks. And I loved the phantom blue as you got, the gray white a little because of being more seen in traffic. Decisions decisions!! I hope you will ejoy the bike this week and I'm looking forward to more videos about this lovey bike🙌
Really lovely bike. Both are keepers. I guess you will sell the 15 Tracer? I have dumped too much into my XSR900 to consider anything else, but it is always nice to see other bikes!
The '15 was delivered to the dealer as a trade-off. The dealer allowed me to have some time with both side by side to make this video but after this recording, the red went away.
Ah ok, it would be good to have a comparison between the new Tracer, and your XSR in terms of practicality, fun, economy, and living with the machines, pros, cons, etc.
Looks nice, congratulations on your new baby. You should have taken us for a ride. Do you notice any differences from your 2015 in the ride, power or handling with the new suspension? Good luck and keep your head on a swivel!!!
I just heard from the dealer today that if you install the short tail tidy from Yamaha the side cases won't fit, because of the blinkers! Take that into account if you're planning to make such a mod, even with other brands of tail tidies.
if you want a tail tidy guess you can go with integrated tail light turn signals :)
www.motodynamic.com/2014-2016-yamaha-fz-09-fj-09-sequential-led-tail-lights-clear.html
I don't like these type of indicators, visibility is very poor.
I’m glad you mentioned that, I was just about to order a tail tidy. Pick my new Tracer up on Thursday.
You should be also careful if you're installing kappa-givi engine bars kn-2122 on the Tracer 2018. They are tight against the front blinkers, as they (blinkers) are much lower on the Tracer 2018.

I take delivery of my nimbus grey gt on 01/08/2018. I can’t wait.👍👍👍
Congratulations, how are you enjoying it?!
hey just rode home on a new 2020 gt yesterday,,i think the first thing i do is gonna be pulling that windscreen off,,its terrible,,my naked fz07 wasn't nearly as bad ,,no matter what position the wind noise is awful ,,dont know how your clutch is but mine is really bad and there appears to be no way to adjust at lever ,,it doesnt engage till all the way out ,,,is yours adjustable ?
@@MotoRiderTube agreed,,,,the air from shield actually will force my face shield down ,,i like riding with it up most of the time ,,plus the wind will reverberate in my ears which is a bit painful,,Im gonna try cutting a few inches off ,,,or re-angle it
@@MotoRiderTube so for me the shield was really bad in tall position and a bit better in low position,,i wound up cutting off about two inches and its MUCH better ,, next i will tint it ,
thanks for the lever info,,i was able to get a little adjustment from wheel made a lot better till new ones show up,,i replaced old mt07 with the shorty and loved the feel and look,,plus easy adjustable
Don't you think the pillion foot pegs is a little bit too far too the front???
I touch them some times but it's not a problem. I never ride with pillion, so maybe with a person there it's more of a problem.
Do you feel a noticeable change regarding the new suspensions
I haven't set them up yet, so right now I don't feel the difference.
@@MotoRiderTube thanks for your prompt reply and for the videos that you are kindly sharing with us. I have subscribed to your channel so please keep doing the good work!
The side paniers are standard on the gt in the UK . Lovely bike I want one ahhhh😀😀
Here as well but they only arrived a couple of weeks later (apparently they're manufactured in Germany and not Japan, so they don't come with the bike).
Thanks for this video ! Greetings from Greece !
What is your average fuel consumption? Great vid... I’m getting mine next week
4.98 L/100 km, carefully measured over 41 refuelings
Great video however I’m not unhappy with my 2015 Tracer would need some convincing to change, love it great bike.
The '15 is a great bike, I was not unhappy with mine either!! Yamaha didn't launch the GT targeting existing owners to switch, but only to stay on top of their market and clearly aimed at potential Versys and V-Strom owners.
Took the GT out today and I’m gonna buy, it’s your fault Ha Ha only joking!
Thanks for the video. I will have it one, 2020. I hope so.
MRA is bringing out a new spoiler for this screen on the 25th June. Will you be installing your engine crash bars?
Thanks for the info, this time I will try to use a spoiler only instead of replacing the complete screen, like I did before. As for crash bars, I will buy new ones - the others stayed with the bike when I delivered. Video coming out soon on the old ones (long term review).
The Tracer has been my dream bike sir, when it first came out, the more I look at it, the more i fell in love with it. Sir, how comfortable is this bike for long distance touring and does the seat feels more comfortable compare to the older version?
I have the comfort seat installed. This one is much more comfortable than the previous version!
Critical Rider Great to hear that sir. Love this bike so much.
Are you gonna post any new videos on your 18 tracer?
Hi is the TracerGT top rack similar to the older Tracer?
I don't think so, the mounting points are different (they changed the subframe and the grab rails).
Great vid, good take to do a before and after.
thanks. do you know if the forks on the GT are the same as on the MT-09SP?
I can't find any conclusive answer to that, but here's what I have on the SP: "Kayaba units with dual-rate springs and adjustability of both high-speed and low-speed compression damping, as well as preload and rebound damping". I don't think the Tracer GT has high-speed and low-speed compression damping (I may be wrong, haven't explored in full) so they may be different units.
think you're right, for the GT there is reference to high/low speed settings
It's such a versatile bike and it's looks good to :-)
Jonas Karlsson ...I’ve set up test rides for all the bikes over the next week so will let you know how I get on.
Agree with Jonas.... I have the 2015 model Tracer in Australia
which I simply love, but hired a brand new Ducati Multistrada 950 in Milan in April and did 900kmnin 3 days around the Lake Como and Magiorre regions.
Thanks, it will be great if you can find out.
Thomas Evers how was the Versys experience?
Joshua Cha
The Versys 1000LT was a great bike for touring and two up, handled great and just a good all around bike to own !
Pick my new Tracer up in the morning 2015 for 2018 yippee
Hello did you experience wobbles in high speed to your tracer 2019?
Nope.
whats high speed ????
Hello. there is information? can the seats be fitted from 2018 to 2015?
- the rider seat of the 2018 Tracer will fit the 2015-17 models;
- the passenger seat of the 2018 Tracer will NOT fit the 2015-17 models.
The seat are also adjustable for new version.
They were already adjustable since the first version, nothing changed there.
Can we fit 18 speedometers in the previous model 16/17 ....??
No idea!
Could you relocate the rear blinkers
Very helpful video. Thanks
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed
Hey, thanks for the upload. As someone who owns the 2017 version I have two questions that I hope you might know the answer to:
1) Will the new seat fit on the previous model?
You didn't forget the outrow and say goodbey, you want to drive I think :-)
You bought the 18 not at you'r normal dealer, you bought the new one in Nijmegen. Because you moved more to the North of the Netherlands. Is that right??
I like you'r details very much. There is a lot more changed than i thougt.
I look forward to more diiferences and accesiores that you will discover.
Nijmegen is in the east not in the north
If you lived before in the south of The Netherlands than is Nijmegen more north.
I bought my previous bike also in Nijmegen. I didn't move, but the dealer in Nijmegen is very good, so I don't mind driving one hour to buy the bike from them.
Sweet bike bro, enjoy the ride and be safe.
Thanks!
its got gt in the rear tyre how cool is that,
That's because it's a Pirelli Angel GT, which I had installed even before the bike was delivered. The dealer kept the shit Dunlop D222 that came from factory.
Cool vid. Did you have to pay extra for the Angel GTs?
Yes, a little bit, but that included the price difference and the tire installation.
Critical Rider thanks!
Well done. Very helpful, thanks.
Thinking about a gt, please make a review of your new bike🙌🙌
Interesting video! Thanks.
It doesn't look like there any bolt points for a Givi rack on the new model. This would be a deal breaker for me. I don't like Yamaha luggage.
I'm sure Givi will come out with a solution, give them some time.
Great job, informative.
Why does the windscreen on the old bike say Jizz
Jizz Machine! It's a sticker I added, originally from Baron von Grumble (he's a UA-camr).
Also, I still have the XSR as a vacation bike, in my parents place.
Ah ok, it would be good to have a comparison between the new Tracer, and your XSR in terms of practicality, fun, economy, and living with the machines, pros, cons, etc.
Very informative. We'll done
Great video!!!
Saddle bags ?
They were delivered a few weeks later and I installed them myself (made a video about it).
Looks nice, congratulations on your new baby. You should have taken us for a ride. Do you notice any differences from your 2015 in the ride, power or handling with the new suspension? Good luck and keep your head on a swivel!!!
I only had 30 min riding with it yet, so not enough to make an opinion.
ahah sabia que eras Portugues! Portuguese accent ;) bonitas motos! cheers
Nice video 👍🏻
Thanks.
Brillant!
new one is sexier
