Even the bowlers weren't able to take advantage of the fresh pitch yesterday & got hammered in the morning today with the sun out. Entire credit goes to NZ bowlers performance, but still they are no Dale Steyn.

I think you make a good point here about the role luck plays in collapses. I think in general people understate the level of luck in cricket. Sometimes you beat the edge time after time and never catch edge, then the batsmen goes on to make 100, other times the batsmen is at ease until his first false shot just catches the edge.
But I think in case you understate a level of frailty in the Indian batting. It isn't just luck that this has happened to India 3 times since 2020. The pitch was extremely difficult, but New Zealand beat the edge a lot in that short innings and the Indian players lacked the technique to give themselves the best chance of surviving against a moving ball. And just structurally - when your middle order typically underperforms but the lower order makes up for it... that leaves you vulnerable on days when the top order fails and the middle order can't survive long enough so the lower order can bat in more favorable conditions.
Australia had a similar spate of very low scores and at the time I was quick to claim a lot of it was just luck. To some extent that did play a role, but there was also a vulnerability in that side, as they had a revolving door in the top 3, and a middle order that did not have the technique or approach when exposed to a still moving ball. If a disaster happens, maybe it was bad luck. If it happens 3 times, maybe there's something else going on.

Indian team tried to play off the session 90-95% of that innings. There was a lot of help for the seamers for 30-35 overs which is rare in Indian conditions. There were maybe 2-3 shots where batters tried to counterattack. As Jarrod has shown in the video, 2-3 wickets fell on bad deliveries that seamed or bounced after pitching.

The conditions were a pace bowlers wet dream, and also what makes such test innings days a thorough outlying entertainer in the era of bowlers getting abused left right and centre. We have won without bumrah at home, with bumrah, and the only real mainstays are Ashwin and jadeja and they are expected to be the best as spinners in India always have been. After the loss of the first 3 wickets, I thought India won't be able to cross the 100-run mark, but they couldn't even reach halfway.

Chill! At times a team needs this sort of pounding to rezig themselves and most importantly can look at the players who all they can trust especially in tough conditions. It actually raises a lot of questions regarding the choice of players like KL Rahul or to that matter Sarfaraz Khan. Is Sarfaraz Khan only limited to Subcontinent like conditions or will he be able to handle things outside Subcontinent? And what about KL Rahul. Is batting him at number 6-7 a good option, considering we simply know he cannot bat in lower order and this was evident enough in WC 2023 final. I simply don't understand the fact what's this obsession of team management to play Rahul at any cost esp for that matter if he needs to bat in lower order. Ideally when Shubman Gill isn't there in XI it would have given more reasons to bat Rahul at number 3 considering his prowess at the top order and also to the fact that most of his great performance came at the top of the order only.
