    ••• DESCRIPTION •••
In this video I share some of my most favorite zero waste and low waste products. Everything from makeup, cleaning, bathroom and pet essentials. Not all of these products are zero waste, but I strive to find products that are an improvement from some 'traditional" products. When possible products are sourced from companies with zero waste or carbon neutral shipping, have ingredients that are gentle on our bodies and the earth and are ethically made.

Love this video! I do pretty much all the same things ♥️ Also I love flossing too! Just a note on the dog poop... The biodegradable bags are great! And a reminder to everyone please pick up your dog waste. Sometimes it doesn't matter if you are truly out backpacking in the wild dessert or woods but being a wildlife biologist hiking around doing surveys I often see so much dog poop just left around in places that people think are "wild" but really have 20 or more dogs passing through. So if you are in a park, on a trail or hiking somewhere that isn't the "bush" please pick up after your dog. I like to do it all the time no matter where I am because our dogs aren't wild so why should we let their poop be in the ecosystem if they are not.

Yes, great advice except for the dog poop. Dogs AND people need remove their poop from natural environments. Why? they are not native to that environmental ecosystem and it does have a negative effect. Look up title "Dog feces and urine could be harming nature reserves, according to new study". It seems like the only option to reuse dog poop is for composting - which I am sure is not for everyone. Maybe there are other options?

I absolutely *LOVE* freezing over ripe bananas! The get all caramelized when they freeze somehow and make the perfect treat right out of the freezer! I also love frozen cherries and other berries!

Your tips are very helpful for someone starting out to get a jumpstart. The plastic kitchen bags and dog waste bags may be marketed as biodegradable but if the bags require the sun to breakdown, they will be buried at the landfill. Even if the bag is exposed to sun they contain chains of corn starch which turn into plastic flakes on the starch has degraded. This info was based on research my family did in the late 80’s at our recycling/compost facility. The bags you use may have improved since then.

unfortunately compostable makes it sound a lot better than it actually is indeed.. they need to be composted by industrial composting facilities (if it even ends up there) but on a higher temperature and more time than they use at the moment for normal compostable materials. these facilities therefore dont even want these materials (yet).so even though better than normal plastic still far from perfect. paper would still be better but comes with other disadvantages of course :)

Thank you SO MUCH for this episode:
I'm changeing into a more low waste lifestyle and in my country (Denmark) and in the capital (Copenhagen) we devide our household waste into 10-12 categories including our food/green waste that is used to make fuel to our CityBusses🏆
I would love to buy and bring less plastic into our home and our life.
And today I will continue by bying a shampoo-bar and step by step continue the journey.
Thank you for your inspiring video.
    Keep up the good work.
    Greetings from Camilla ☀️

For making cloth rags or cloth toilet paper or paper towels, I reuse old flannel sheets. I cut them to size. (They will not fray.) Use and then wash when I'm done. For the bathroom rags, I have a bucket that I put them in after use. If there are more solid debris on it, I rinse that off before going into the bucket. Wash all of them in a normal load of laundry.

Hi there, new to your channel and we are definitely committed to lower waste living. That said, this video did seem a bit unreachable (in my opinion) for the average family. Easy swaps were a no Brainer for me (reusable snack bags, reusable shopping bags) but I also think setting the bar too high can deter people who may want to try. The stress of trying to achieve some of this may not be worth it and we all have to cut corners somewhere to have balance in life. Just my two cents :) have a good day and thanks for sharing ideas.

Question: I'm relatively new to the zero waste/healthier living journey.. there is so much plastic in my house! A lot of it not recyclable. I feel like throwing it away to swap for bamboo, metal, etc. is wasteful, too, though. Should I just keep on using what I've got as long as I can, or swap everything out as I can? I have a growing hatred for plastic!!

Thank you for this list, and all your lovely efforts for the sake of the planet! Beautiful! 🌿💚🌿
I hope that, after reading my thoughts below, you will consider revising your stance on dealing with pet feces. I think this is particularly important considering your very public platform.
Your words and actions about dealing with dog poop seem to reflect the current trend on the subject I've heard quite a few low-waste people say, when speaking on handling their dogs' feces, that they often let alone poop that is 'out of the way' enough, just let it degrade naturally where it is. Or even that they will use or leaf or something to move feces that they deem too in-the-way to another area that's more out of the way. I suppose I respect the intention behind this, to not waste a compost able bag (or worse, gasp, plastic!) on it when it superficially seems harmless enough to just leave it be. Except... maybe it's not harmless. Dog feces is a common source for transmission of intestinal parasites to other animals. This includes wildlife, pets, and humans (human children especially are particularly susceptible). Many intestinal parasites can have a quite a number of different possible host species. Some parasite eggs can live in the soil for a surprisingly long time. Whipworm eggs, for example, can live the soil for up to seven years! I believe the current recommendation by the AVMA is to check each pets' fecal sample, both float and direct smear tests, every six months unless the pet tests positive for one or more parasites, in which case medication(s) and a series of repeated tests are needed at set intervals until two consecutive negative tests are achieved. Having worked in vet practices for years, I can tell you that a) many clients aren't always fully compliant with the intestinal parasite protocol and b) even a history of negative tests performed properly and on the recommended schedule do NOT necessarily guarantee that an animal is, in fact, negative. This is because fecal tests, both float and direct smear, detect parasite eggs... but parasites don't shed eggs continuously, so a test could appear to be negative when there are actually parasites present but just not actively shedding eggs.
Hopefully I've explained this clearly so that you can see that this is both a public health issue for humans and pets, and an environmental issue for wildlife. There's a very good reason that "poop patrol" laws exist without exception for the mistaken/misinformed "well, it's not in anyone's yard" or "well, it's away from the hiking trail" or whatever. I hope you not only revise your position on dealing with dog poop, but also use your voice and platform to educate people in the low-waste sphere, where this mistaken rationale seems prevalent, about this harmful trend. Thank you for listening, and may you have a life of beauty and love!

Hey! Since i didn't see any comments about the charcoal, i'd like to tell you that it's probably not working well as a filter if you are just putting it in your water,, i mean that the way it should work in 'real' filters is by pushing water Through the compressed coal which lets coal absorb the stuff and filter water, but if you are just putting it in your water it'll just suck water in and that's it... Imagine if you need to filter your coffee from little coffee particles - putting coffee filter in your cup of coffee won't work, right? :))

Local grocer tried bulk dry items in tall clear tubes. Very quickly there were obvious bugs taking over the contents. Store quit doing that. Tare weights on containers are suspect and need extra weigh-ins and calculations... stores not happy with that. They do now leave some items unpackaged...corn on the cob, apples, avocados, but they force a package of 3 green peppers. There was a single in the bin ))) when I took it to checkout, they refused it and threw it away. I do not understand. They will sell frozen shrimp and salmon by the piece without plastic but no other meats. They claim unsterile home packaging will cause lawsuits.

Rebecca Sisson thank you so much. I’m new to your channel and haven’t gotten that far into the videos get haha. While I love the idea of the elate mascara, I find it a little pointless. The bamboo exterior is really just for show as the mascara would be fine in the plastic tube. I find it a little green washing on their part but also a waste of the resource all for aesthetics. I love their other products but this one just rubs me wrong a little lol. Love your content thus far and would love some zero waste low waste minimal content as well as maybe some good travel low waste food ideas.

It'd help if you mentioned the name of the products you use, and where you sourced them from. Also, your videos seem blown out. They need colour balancing (more black--shadows).
You may also want to reconsider that "compostable" trash bag. Most compostable bags are only compostable in very specific conditions. You're better off using a paper garbage bag. Though if you're really diverting things away from landfill, most of the stuff you throw away is usually stuff that doesn't really need a bag, anyway, apart from perhaps some cleaning or hygiene items, which can probably fit in a smaller bin (which is better since you can change it more often).
