Through the years, much of the best Letterman material was because of Mulligan. I always wished he had more screen time, because I find him uproarious-his on-camera bits were stunners. He's an unsung hero and deserved more accolades. Thank you very much for posting this clip.

is glad, to have found this! Yes, Mr. Mulligan I'd have to put forward, had, what I'd consider a genius-level comedic mind. Thank-you, for your VITAL part, in, all, those wonderful years!

This must be the first appearance on the new Letterman table and chairs. This must be when Kilborn was still hosting The Late Late Show before his show ended on August 27th, 2004.

mulligan fan, you are the missing puzzle piece to the don giller virtual empire...20 yrs ago did any of us think we'd be able to relive the golden age of late nite? nothing will ever compare to carson & dave...especially now that conan rightfully tossed the old format into a black hole & took the hole with him.

A touching tribute, considering he fired Gerard about 100 times on air.

I wondered who he reminded me of. Then it hit me, Dr Steven Brule. I wonder if Reilly based his character on him.

Luv it when i meet another person named Gerard not a very common name . Funny whenever Dave kids around with Gerard he calls him Gerry but when hes serious he calls him Gerard. Lol. Luv hearing my name on a hit tv show .

So were his appearances after this just cameos basically but didn’t work for Letterman?

    Where was Paul Schaffer??
Well, I’m glad Dave did not fake fire Gerry to cap off that earlier (1980’s) comedic bit
Mr. G., you turned me on to the genius of Letterman and Co.
    Thank you!!!

6:48 "If the amount of ______ is any indication." What did he say? I couldn't catch it.

Reading a book about Dave recently, I was really turned off by how phony he's been for much of his career. I was really disappointed in his nasty, selfish behavior.

No, that's your complete lack of imagination you're thinking of.
