  • Hi Folks, this is a project I have been looking to do for a long time. Build my own Camper/day van. After a lot of thought of where to start I purchased a Ford Transit Connect LWB high roof. (Now called Travis :) ). This video is Part one of my build journey. It is a bare bones account of my conversion process. Flooring,, sound deadening, insulation, and roofing.
    Part Two will follow, with my Bed build design, and layout. off grid power solutions, and Kitchen area Running water sink, cooking and lighting etc.
    If anybody else is thinking of doing it I hope this video will help them. I looked at loads of similar videos before and during. Loads of ideas out there.
    And that is what makes UA-cam such a great tool for whatever project you set your mind to.
    PS Main part filmed before the latest restrictions.

    I got one 2 days ago. Mine is a high roof 2012 XLT 40K miles. Passenger wagon with 2nd row seats that are going. I have 2 opening back windows and 4 non opening windows and Will work with it. I looked for weeks and gave up, then this listing was sent in an email. Research and talking to dealer in Chicago, I bought it, got it delivered to Missouri very next early morning. Was surprised. Great surprise is remote start, don't have to pay to have one installed now. I will have raised floor removed and leave the roof insert. I am going to love it. I wanted windows. I have 3 cool small chest of different size artist drawers that I will repurpose. Bought 2 complete solar sets for house emergency last year that I will use also, just need a bed built. Good job, you have great in-laws!!! I am Getting excited and I am sure that is evident! I lost my dear husband In 2019 and time to start to live again. I am a little scared but will step out and do it. Sold my newer car to brother and that more than paid for van, so I guess it was meant to be. I watch these videos everyday.

      Sounds like you’ve got yourself a fantastic Van. Best tip don’t rush it to build. If something won’t fit or work take a step back think it through there’s always another day. Most importantly enjoy the experience and get out and enjoy it. ATB from across the pond 😃👍

    Havelock Wool. That's what you need to insulate with. It absorbs any condensation, water, etc. It keeps you toasty warm in winter and cool in summer. It also acts as powerful sound proofing.
    Everything else will eventually get wet and moldy from condensation.

    Great watch ! Love the mother in law's input, she seems cool and happy to help. Great to see you have a good relationship with the in laws. Mine have both passed away. Father in law loved me. The other one wasn't to keen ! Families are great ! My parents were both only children so I don't have too many to worry about. I look forward to the next posting

Other circumstances, weather, cooking, entertainment in situ etc changes your setup, heating is a good one, I changed my origonal plans to accommodate a better heating system lol, or as trivial as moving hooks to a better place. With a 1,7 l. Diesel engine with 100 HPS.
    I´m a motorcycle driver too. But got healthy problems other reasons.

    A good easy to follow video. A likeable guy and fun parents in law. It would be good if you told us where you bought the stuff and the price. Where did you get that stretchy carpet for the panels? Also the silver insulation and wool....the only bit I don't like so far is the wooden ceiling.

    • @stevebutler7156
      @stevebutler7156  3 роки тому

      Hi Thanks for Watching, 4 way stretch carpet you can get Amazon, eBay etc. I got mine local campervan supplies store 5metres and 4 tins high temp spray glue(forgotten name) Insulation Wickes, plastic bottle insulation BandQ. Didn’t want to carpet roof, I think it would get dirty over time and insulating over would be problematic. It was an absolute pain to do, but one of the main insulated areas. With the cavity created with the pine cladding I stuffed the insulation in as I went. The roof prior lined with silver insulation. Only place I’m not happy with is circular hole for the roof vent. 😃👍

    Steve I do like your videos but the adverts every 5-8 minutes are excessive and making me seriously consider unsubscribing. I know it makes you a bit of money, but the sheer quantity of unskippable ads is frustrating to the point of turning your videos off after the second or third set of ads.
