So i built the farm to what i believe is the closest to what you made. I dont see any spawn. Do they spawn in only day?, when you are building the jungle you said to make sure the candle is on the edge of the frame. Does this include maxing out you pov with thing like the binoculars?
They spawn both during day and night. But make sure that you have adequate distance between yourself and the spawning area. There are rules IIRC it's 64-86 blocks from the player. Also, they need to have a clear line of sight towards you so that they can start moving in your direction. Other than that, max out spawn rates and eliminate all other spawns. If you have a radar and lifeform analyzer you should be ONLY seeing gnomes spawn, nothing else.
Could probably use Hoiks early game to get them across faster, would increase rates since they won't have to spend 10+ seconds walking toward you to solidify, and you wouldn't need a teleporter. I can also confirm this works with the "trunk" walls so you are guaranteed to get a 2-3 wall platform in every world with a large tree.
True, hoiks work, it’s just I’ve been trying really hard not to use them. Just because the devs decided to call the originally unintended mechanics a “feature”, due to substantial coding overhead required in order to fix it, doesn’t mean I accept it. Hoiks are being abused too much, mostly for cheap cheese, to the point that many public servers ban those as cheats. But you’re right, hoiks speed up the process. However, even with optimal teleporters setup you won’t be getting much of an advantage sadly…

You need the dangerous variant. I think you can shimmer it like spider wall to get the natural variant but I'm not 100% certain. He's just showing how to do it day 1. If you're setting this up with shimmer or later stuff it's much easier.
Have you actually tried? All you need to do is reach the jungle, get a single jungle grass seed, 140 mud blocks, one water candle from the top of the dungeon, and then 5 min building the farm. I could do all that in 10 min real time. If lucky and get multiple adjacent living wood walls, it's possible to spawn 30-35 gnomes per min, which brings you to around 1 plat every 2 min. Tested multiple times.

does gap size matter? 2:42
Yeah it does, about 5-6 tiles, so that gnomes can jump over but friendly critters fall down. It also prevents slimes from spawning
I get significantly less gnomes spawning. Do you know why maybe?
Make sure nothing else can spawn anywhere else around you. Water candle + jungle biome is key. And you can add battle potions too.
So I didn’t get any walls from the living tree while destroying it will it work if I just place a living tree wall down
No, you need a natural wall not a placed one. You will have to find another tree. Or copy the world seed and reload.
