- I spent December learning how to digitally paint. This was my fifth painting and for it I chose the bath house from spirited away as the subject.

Is there anything you can't do? 😆
I love your channel
Sports.
Edit: I now also do sports.
@@thethoughtemporium just need the right data and engineering time and I bet you'd crush sports under your pinky toe
@@Chunbar you just have to completely overthink it. And for some reason it works.
Wrong question. The question is: where do you find time to do all that?
And he does art? This guy is becoming my role model fr fr
He can also cook😉
When people say, "for real" so much that you have to say, "for real for real" so that people know you're actually for real.

@@No_215 honestly, idk why i said that. iirc it was some kind of bug(ig?) making the comment looks nonsensical to me.
Can't imagine the amount of work required to make the original movie
Lots!
That's Japanese dedication for ya
Grows gemstones, designs a cure for lactose intolerance, engineers super spider silk yeast, and is a great digital art. Modern day Da Vinci right here
Awesome job on the speed paint btw- would love to see a channel with more of them!
You only realise the incredibly small details in every Ghibli shot after having painted it as well. Love to Studio Ghibli
It's truly art. They take the time to really make something wonderous

THE OCTOPUS LOOKS SO GOOD!!!?!?!!!?? HE IMPROVES QUITE LITERALLY EXPONENTIALLY. YEEZUS.
A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.
I didn't expect to see such beauty when I clicked on this video but wow great job
The way you paint in photoshop looks like you've been painting in the program for years. Well done. I hope to see more of this stuff soon.
This really gives me a lot more appreciation for the original. For example, just look at their clouds. Wow.
I find it interesting how much scientific and artistic minds benefit from each other.
Separate art channel would be amazing! Would love to see more of these and some experiment inspired paintings (radio telescope?).
Professional artist here: This is very impressive! You have an eye for color and detail! It's also astounding how much of an overlap there is between science and art. Feynman loved music and painting, and many artists love science (myself included). Creativity is incomplete unless we combine the two.
I can't believe it. I did the exact same thing this December after taking a break for months, and I love the art you made. That's really good for your 5th painting man. I wish you luck on your digital art journey.
I really like the jazz music you paired with the video. Awesome art dude I'm seriously impressed.
He's a modern day alchemist AND an artist.
im extremely upset at youtube for not recommending me this and basically hiding it, im glad i decided to check your channel! The art is amazing!
Bruh stop being so good at everything
That octopus and, specially those lilies look like pictures. That's reeealy nice!
this dude literally doing everything
Well done! It’s certainly not a small effort switching mediums let alone learning it in first place.
However, if there is a next time please also record all your other panes especially the layers pane as I find that essential to learning from others in the digital art space.
But now I’m confused as to how you worked efficiently with a directly mapped pen display with all your panes on a different monitor? I map my pen tablet (no display) across multiple monitors so I’m not constantly reaching for the mouse?
For some reason my screen recorder only showed the base window. The others are hovering over the drawing and I just move them out of the way as needed, but they take up less space that way. That's why you see my mouse move around weirdly in what looks like empty space. I'm interacting with the other windows. I didn't notice the recording issue until I went to edit it all together at the end and will be addressed for the next one, if I make a next one
@@thethoughtemporium Little tip you might find useful; when you have a canvas open you can press ‘f’ to cycle through the full screen modes, you save a little more space in one mode and hide all the UI in the other mode. Good luck with future works!
@@boredymcboredface8624 i belive from the image he showed at the start its probably a huion of some sort based on the button layout and pen
I literally watched spirited away for the first time last night, what a coincidence.
Hell yea, this is great! My day gets better every time I see you upload.
This is really inspiring to me. I felt for a long time, aside from layers and control Z, that I had to treat digital art almost exactly like traditional art and that it was bad to use shortcuts (like forming geometry or copy and paste). This helps me feel more comfortable letting myself use digital art to its fullest.
For sure. Use all the tools you have available. Before I got started I watched a few tutorials by lulusketches. She's a professional background painter for Disney and did all sort of manipulation of the objects, regular use of the pen tool, etc. The whole point of digital is the insane levels of freedom it gives you. No reason to hold yourself back by the standard of different formats.
Thank you so much for bringing this movie to my attention, honestly, it was just what I needed. The best things come from the most unexpected places it seems
It’s amazing that he can do it so fast!
shoot Dude, you're a Wizard :o Thank you for all the Content
I'm a what? A wizard!
oh my god. how are u this talented??? literally a modern day da vinci
What about calling the new channel "The Art Emporium"? Probably already taken?
Not taken yet!
Very impressive. Very impressive indeed
cafe de touhou music, digital art that always tends towards the realistic end of the spectrum, love for science, editing, cooking... HOW DO WE HAVE SO MUCH IN COMMON EXPLAIN.
This guy does fucking awesome magic (aka science), then gets hungry and makes a Michelin star dish, then gets bored and creates breathtaking art WOW
The things at first: 🟢
The things later on: 🌳
The detail..😳 so cool
This looks really good; not just good, but REALLY good.
Not what I usually expect from this channel but any spirited away fan i consider a friend. Awesome work .
You know how to draw really good and u are very very good at science. This is the closest to the perfect human💃💃
Happy New Year of Hope in 2021. Thanks for sharing.
This is reaallyy good. I absolutely want to see more.
this is amazing for someone who just started
Great job, I loved it!
Whoah, I didnt know you could draw. Very nice!
This makes me want to properly pick up painting again! Good job!
It looks great!
Certainly not what I expected to see appear on your channel :) nicely done!
That was extremely relaxing. Excellent music choice.
Wow, this is absolutely stunning. Painting is way out of my art comfort-zone, but watching your process has really inspired me to try my hand at it!
amazing. thank you for sharing your painting process.
the original is an absolute masterpiece, but yours is incredible aswell, it s more lighter and pastel looking with a mix of 3d renders and with a bit of abstract look (like the railings of the bridge look more like a modern art work, bc it looks more flater and less realistic and detailed)
I noticed too! His painting compared to the original is a slight bit more lighter in value than the original one. Some of the shapes are off by a little bit, but they're so subtle that it doesn't necessarily make a difference, at least, bit by bit. It adds up as more things get added. Somethings are smaller for example, than in the picture. One other thing I noticed is that the shadow on the bridge from the left side railing is brighter than in the reference. The flag is lacking a bit more perspective, and is less circular than in the reference as well. One last thing, the leaves on the tree is greener than in the reference. The reference incorporates a bit of a blue-greenish color as oppose to an overly green color. Nevertheless, his art is still incredible! The colors about nearly the same, at least, regarding the main building. The way he did the windows was nice to see!
You're truely multi talented
This is SO FREAKIN COOL. I didn’t expect that from this channel, but it’s a pleasant surprise.
Dang dude! one word; Amazing!
This was cool thanks for showing us!!
Not really my cup of tea, but was surprised. This was pretty cool. Would not mind more of these
Looking good!
This is pretty inspiring
Wow your art is beautiful
Wow I'd LOVE to see more of this, my favorite science channel can ALSO do art, hOW??? Gosh I love this
Id love to see more of this!
This is very impressive.
I watched Spirited Away for the first time this week because I was finally able to watch it and it was a really good movie.
Now, this is epic
Wow, beautiful music and painting. Can you share where you got the tracks ?
I tried to find it but can't remember the guy's name. It's part of some play alongs mixed with his tracks. Pretty sure the second tune is moment's notice arr. Frank something :/
That is awsome!
great choice of music to go with the video :)
wow, watching you do the bridge was super cool, love the tree too!! amazing :0
Very well done. An enjoyable and relaxing video to watch. Being a professional UA-camr, I hope you can appreciate the irony of the statement. "Don't give up your day job" as I definitely would watch more of these time lapse art vids. The statement is applicable, meant wholeheartedly as a compliment and I look forward to more in the future.
Beautifull. I love to paint aswell and it's not easy to improve our capability to make things better. And after i started to use digital stuff decades ago, things got even better, although all my art is very simple if compared to those realistic paintings. And i know, it's super fun to paint, very relaxing and rewarding, cause you did something by yourself. This is something that only who do art will understand. There's not price that can pay it.
I love the Octopus! That’s my favorite animal!
A scientist's art skills that surpassed the people I know who sees themselves as artists. That's really impressive and awesome
Your channel is one of the best UA-cam channels that ever existed
How do you pronounce your name? Apelpich?
@@garret1930 yes
Loved it
beautiful
Awesome job
The bath house from Spirited Away was inspired on a real bath house in Matsuyama, Ehime prefecture, Japan (Dogo Onsen). I lived close to there and it's a beautiful place. Every time I watch the movie I remember my time in Japan.
Very nice work. The colors and details are amazing. Really nice to see that it's not only me that try to find something else to relax the neurons during this grey season.
Really well done!
Wow this was a surprise, very beautiful! But the octopus was even more incredible for me!
Amazing! You seem to be the same logician-artist polymath type that I am. You have an amazing sense of how to replicate the look of something using brushes and paint, and a great sense of form and how to draw it in a way that it doesn't look flat. You may study a picture beforehand, and you might say you're just starting out, but everything you make glows with the understanding of how to render an idea onto the canvas. Very well done. While it's not my cup of tea, I fully support you in making an art channel and everything.
Some tips on painting from someone who does digital painting:
-Build a visual library. Focused studies on various objects can make you much better at the objects in question. Gathering references is also important in building your visual library, but sometimes you can't get them yourselves. Pinterest, Tumblr, and Instagram are great places to gather visual references imo.
-if you're learning to draw people, try quick gesture drawings to slowly learn to construct poses from imagination. Anatomy is important too, especially comparative anatomy if you're tryna make fantasy art.
-value over colors. Colors are great and all, but if it doesn't read well in black and white, then the values are not good enough.
As always practice makes perfect! If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Im so happy seeing one of my favorite channels pursue more of their passions, and I hope to be of greater help!
It's really interresting to see the tiny changes in color, contrast and perspective that make the original look so lifelike. I always thought copying artwork was pointless, but i can see how you could learn a lot from just comparing the two paintings.
Man I tried painting with acrylic, and let me tell ya: it looked like a child did barely any effort. And I spend a few days making the sheit!
GG for the dedication and talent
Really cool
amazing art my dude
Nice job. Keep at it. It is a rewarding skill to earn.
Very cool keep on keeping on!

Happy 2021, lovely choice for reproduction BTW!
How are you so good at literally everything
Bruh how are you so good at everything
Nice :) it seems that when you start doing something there is no ending and you dive deep, no matter, art or science!
Don't mind me, I'm just here vibin' to some jazz 'n speed paint.
thats great
Damn this is like genius level territory
Incoming channel number three: The Art Emporium
How did you get just another level cooler? Damn!
I'm new to this channel--the last and first video I think I saw was the spider-yeast video--and I was quickly reeled in by Spirited Away while scrolling through the video backlog. I paused at about 4:39 and had a miniature heart attack at seeing over a hundred layers, as I normally limit myself to one or two: Background and/or character(s). Props to you for keeping all of them in order! I'm sure over 5 for just one painting would drive me insane.
that jelly fish is beautiful :0
You are actually good at everything holy shit
STILL LEARNING MY ASS! youre amazing ive been doing digital art for years and i cant paint like that
to be honest tho youre not wrong everyone continually learns when it comes to art
