- Newer Ferraris probably have more tech than all of NASA did just a few decades ago. But does that actually translate to speed? We find out by doing the most un-scientific pairing, with one of our most scientific friends: Mr. @RobDahm and his three rotor FD RX-7. Lined up against our pal Alex from Tag Motorsports in his Ferrari 488 Pista. Brute force boosted doritos versus finely manicured Italian horses on the no-prep tarmac. Who will take the W?

Man does NOT know how to let go of the right-most pedal for the life of him. Genuinely. If he were able to grip in 4th... He'd be able to pull busses on that Ferrari, honestly. Not only that his tires looked like balloons. Not gonna do you any good having a drag radial at 35-40PSI, just my 2 cents. I wish he would implement some type of traction control, don't get me wrong wheelspin is fun but wheelspin at 90-120 is just dangerous, especially with high grip tires like those. Even a low tech traction control (2 ABS sensors rear wheels, retard timing, cut fuel by a set percentage) would make that thing a straight up rocket. I understand his build is CONSTANTLY changing, hell I don't think I've ever consistently seen the same car/same setup in two back to back videos ever on him (perfectionist and anxiety lifestyle I'm the same way can't blame him) but maybe implement some sort of cheap, stable, and reliable form of TC pllleeaaassee the fans wanna see it, not you sideswipe a Ferrari at double the national speed limit
Rx7 needs a rear spoiler no downforce at high speeds equals no traction with a high hp rwd.🤷🏾

I think the mate from [HOONIGAN] DT 075: 1200HP Twin Turbo Diesel Burnouts (Old Smokey F1) has the same spirit, awesome guy, but i still keep forgetting him, even tho he is a great soul
I wish they’d have someone else. Logan at defined Autoworks has an amazing 4 rotor FD and there are people with VERY fast, very well tuned three rotor fd’s, with hoods on them. I’m glad they had him on but there are some much more refined rx-7’s around to line up against

It looks like he needs some weight moved to the rear
The faster you go the more the slick ballon’s and the more squirlly it gets. The radial front sticks and goes straight while the slick floats around. It’s a scary feeling. Glad the car stayed in one piece. A large rear wing could have helped him plant the rear tires.

am I the only person who isn’t really impressed by supercars? Robs car is by no means perfect but if you watch his videos you can see that he puts so much time and effort into making his FD into something special, The feeling of accomplishment with building your car up is unmatched

You can run a radial tire on the front with bias ply slicks. I've been doin it for years but at the moment I'm running bias ply Hoosier skinny's up front just to save a few pounds but they are not great on the street. He probably needed some more air in the slicks they do sway when your running less than 10 pounds sometimes not all the time but there are a few other reasons why it moved around so much.

The sickest spare tire I've ever seen came with my 04 GTO I had. It was a gloss black 5 star skinny. I borrow another one from my buddy that had a GTO and I ran them up from for a while. It looked dope, and surprisingly the tire on it didn't look like a lame spare, it was a Goodyear T145/70R17 that looked like a drag radial. A lot of Vette guys change the tire and run them with spacers using them as actual skinnies. It might not have been smart to go 150mph on them, but hey, some times you gotta do what you gotta do.

If it's so easy for the pista, imagine the Sf90.
Second race was solid with the RX leaving just slightly before the Pista so it was definitely more of a fair race compared to the first. If the RX could hold more traction, I have no doubt it would at least tie the Pista or slightly edge it out. Great episode!

Rob was one of the main reasons I got into cars, I had always liked rx7s so I naturally found my way to his chanel at the age of 16, 5 years later I have a degree in auto mechanics and a 240 that I can't afford to build, I have no regrets

Too much engine for that chassis. Lets see if rob starts learning about dynamics, because he is the man and he loves to learn new things
yeap. He is currently only tuned for max power, and he did acknowledge that something needs to change as the car simply boost creaps out of control. Also that RX7 is a test bed for engine unit, i dont think his suspension has seen change in last 6 years.
His rx7 is also rusted out quite a bit, i remember him showing it in a video, it might fold in half soon.

Back in the day I had bought a used 89 Corvette. I though I was hot shit. I was on interstate 5 just getting over the grape vine dropping in to the valley where it's just a straight shot. A shot in to Bakersfield. I was probably doing about 130 or so because there was no traffic.....except for a twin turbo RX7. He flew by my like I was standing STILL!! I wasn't butthurt. I was in awe of what that twin turbo two rotor could do. Changed my world completely. I traded the vette in for a twin turbo RX7. True story
