It’ll take at least 5 years to be somewhat normal if folks return. I lived near Falmouth during the 97 flood. My house still has silt in the floor joists and rafters . It’ll take a decade for most homes and businesses to bounce back. Praying for y’all.

@SnafuBob I live outside NYC and parts of my town have been having flooding issues the last couple of years. Not by rivers just rain water that does not drain away fast enough. The other day I spoke to one of the sewer workers who cleans the sewers and does inspections with a camera. He said everything is fine except the 100 year storms are happening every few months or so. I don’t know how to describe it but I’m sure these people know very well the gross and awful smell associated with floods like this. It’s the smell of, everything, gas, sewage, food, dirt, you can even smell walls it seems. Just all wet and drying up in the sun, festering for days.
It's mountains, all towns are in valleys. Some places got 30-40' of water with houses floating away hitting bridges and other houses. That's not possible

@@Jay27Jay23 I raised a brick home in Ohio after my home flooded. The cost was more then buying a brand new house elsewhere. It's not a feasible option I agree. I do hope they put up a flood wall in that neighborhood in Whitesburg, with 3 sides surrounded by water it could give people just enough time to get out. Or I'd like to think so. I don't know what people will do to pay for flood insurance if they change flood maps.

If possible move those houses and businesses out of the flood plain. If not, put them on stilts like new Orleans did after Katrina.
