This is beautiful! What you hated about the spidery-things--I love. The spidery-thing happened because your watercolor paper was too wet, but it gave you that mysterious misty base. I used the Arches cold-press paper, but changed to the 600gsm because I use a lot of water in my paintings;)
I didn't know the 'weight' was even an option or made a difference, I shall try the heavier paper in the future, thank you!

This is a wonderful, mystical forest painting! Well done, Julia! As always, I love your chatter. Today I wanted to give you a hug whenever I heard you sigh, because I knew the sighs had much more to do with the internal struggles your mind was ruminating over. Those sighs resonated with me and caused me to remember more than one moment when my kiddies were young when I felt those times of mental struggle. I hope that all is resolved these months later and your mind is less anxious and more relaxed. Thank for another awesome tutorial!
I so appreciate this comment - it resonates with me. Life has become easier in some ways (no eczema thank God), but more challenging in others. Oh but how blessed we are that these are things we sigh over, and not more turbulent things.

Wish you gave more heads up in the colours you had ready. My paper was drying as I was trying to mix the colours.
I don't always know what I'm going to do ahead of time, I sort of go with the flow
