Here on my channel, I am renovating a 250 year old stone cottage on my property in Normandy, France. By using traditional, low-waste and off-grid methods, I'm aiming to keep the charm and character of this old building, and turn it into a furnished, finished home for family whilst keeping environmental impact as low as possible. There will also be content on living in France, visiting beautiful rural places, hunting for antiques, gardening, and more! Hit subscribe if you would like to keep up with my journey, and hit the notification bell to be alerted when we go LIVE where we have a first viewing of the video as it is published with a live chat so I can answer all your questions! See you in Sean's World.
I like the idea of the glass paneled front door because it will be another source for natural light. Your dinner looks delicious. Enjoy!!! ❤
Whatever you decide for the front door, I think glass panels would provide lots of natural light.
I like how you let us see your thought process- how you plan, adjust, readjust, and then somehow it all comes out beautifully
Turning below that metal bit into a bench seat for putting your shoes on and such would be wonderful and perhaps solve that bulge issue
With hooks added over the bench for lots more storage!
Sam is always beautiful! The food looks delicious!
Hi Sean and family .I am a 64yr old nan and watch your programme with my 11yr old grandson .he wanted to know what I was watching one day and he's been hooked ever since.when I was 38yrs old I did a builders course at college then managed to do my own drive way over 3 weekends mixed cement by hand .but only one error as I was digging out the footings I hit a water pipe ended up with a fountain. U tube often unsubscribes I believe when a channel becomes too popular x
Hi there Thanks for your support 😊
Hope I’m never unsubscribed! I learn a great deal from your posts and really love the cats and garden/plant segments.
Thanks 👌 😊
It would brighten the room up with a paneled door ❤
U are a kind hearted man. It's going to be nice in the cottage. Stay safe and warm 😊
Thank you 😊 much appreciated
Mercy, you have had so much rain, you must feel like a duck! One could see your wheels churning today with all the challenges of the wall and the front door! You always figure things out! Sam’s dinner looked delicious, and the kitties are so sweet! Love from Pennsylvania 💕🌷🐻
The windowed door certainly will allow more light into the cottage.
Sean can you incorporate a bench? Might help strengthen up that wall as well.
I've used an exterior door, half paneled top half with blinds between the double glass and solid lower half. What's so great is that you get privacy when needed and light when you're ready for the day to start. I didn't know if you've seen these doors at Brico.😊
Still subscribed!😄👍🏼
I love the idea of the doors as panneling. Also, I WANT that front door. I've been wanting one for years. I finally got a new all glass storm door, and I want a glass panneled door like that next. Thanks for putting out interesting content all the time. I'm on a plane now to come eat dinner with you. Sam is a cutie. I enjoy when you show her. I promise to not leave with any of the cats. Maybe.
What an ambitious project with the wall 🎉
love the idea of a window door. It will definitely bring in the beautiful natural light.
I’m really enjoying these videos, can’t wait to see that floor go in!❤
I think all the chaos in the states is drawing a lot of attention from small channels right now. It’s all political news being suggested and I’m not receiving notifications about your videos like I used to. So don’t take it personally, you’re still one of my favourites!
Much appreciated 🙏
What chaos ? Thank the lord we finally have a real president!
What chaos?
I’ve experienced the same thing with some of my UA-cam notifications. Very frustrating.
Yes I am not getting my notifications here in the U. S. Have to look up all my subscriptions. With a new President we have so much animosity both for and against. We can only look forward for better days
It is great that you have the knowledge and experience to restore the old and new with the older methods of doing it. I know that there is a lot of work involved but truly think the door with the windows would be lovely for the front door. You go get warm and have a great dinner.
Having glass in any door will really brighten up the entrance.
Sean your channel is doing well. We will all find you one way or another. Keep up with the good work soon you will be up to your neck with new subscribers...
What still needs to be done to get your wood burner installed? It would be lovely to have some heat in there while you're working in the winter.
New flue
Lots of good ideas! Thanks for the video! I really enjoy seeing you and Sam and the kitties and all of what you are doing. I have seen some other people restoring cottages in France make new solid doors and shutters. They used tongue and grove boards and old metal strap hinges and made the new doors. They came out good too! You can do anything by what I have seen! Have a great week! ( I have a kitty that looks like Pixie and she is 18 years old. The sweetest one I ever had!)
I loved it when you use what you've got! Watching you making progress is very nice, go Sean go!💋
That door would be beautiful for the front!
Excellent episode and fabulous progress! I love how the wall looks already! Wonderful to see the cats and Sam! I love the idea of the front door with glass in it for the daylight! A great fit is most important. Be well, stay safe.❤😊🥰💖💜👍
Keep warm like the cats 🤗☕🍰☕🍰
Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
The door would bring much needed natural light into the first floor of the cottage 🎉🎉🎉
Sean, you are a jack of all trades. Keep up the good work, mate.❤❤❤
I think using the window panel door would be hard to keep clean. The glass would always get splattered with mud every time it rains, and would take a lot of time to keep clean. Just a thought.🤔
I agree with you.😊
Words of great wisdom:
You have to weigh your time with your budget.
Time is expensive.
And not replaceable.
Sean I like the door but whatever you decide to do will look lovely. STAY WARM AND DRY.
The door would be great!! The old doors that match would be a wonderful entry wall😊
That door would let lots of light shine in
This problem with YT unsubscribing people is out of control lately. It seems about half the channels I watch have had this issue since the first of the year. Come on YT, get this straitened out!!
Love your designs for the floors, lots of character and practical too!
Great progress mate!
Yummy, Sam.
You are inspiring me to cook.
(I don’t like cooing.)
Glad to see the kitties safe and happy.
I was just thinking that the floor looks a real muddle....but I also know that because of your design skills and building talent that you've shown in these vlogs, the floor will look splendid!! I was also imagining the many thousands of feet have walked that plain mud floor. Onwards Sean!!!
It was wonderful to see you explaining about what you wanted to do, and then seeing you do an end-around with the metal channel.
I love the sound being made by your trowel when you make the slachy side ways cuts into the cement(?) to get it to settle properly.
It's coming together really well.
I also like the windowed door. Hope you can work some magic to make it fit.
Cheers
My grandma had a brick floor in her kitchen. I always loved it.❤
Thank you Sean and Sam. All the best.❤
A dutch door for the front would be nice...
I was thinking the same thing. Glass panes could be on the top half, and solid wood for lower door. This would be a good compromise for letting more light, but sturdy cottage door feeling.
Everything is coming along so nicely. I think if it were me and I had the skills you have Sean, I'd see about making a door for the cottage out of wood you already have. What you have is already seasoned. That way, you can make it fit perfectly.
Those doors will be wonderful as paneling. I really hope you use the door on the front of the cottage. You’ll need to be creative in getting it to fit properly but then that’s what you do so well!
Glad you are using the old doors..Will add a lot of character.
Make a curve in the wooden post
You must need those cuppas what a miserable cold day, quite tiring to keep warm ☺️😊
Looking great! Well done! The paneling would look great in the entrance!
Can’t wait to see the finished cottage 💖
Great plans for the cottage
You just completed some more magic Sean! Oh that dinner Sam...yum!!!!
I love the front door! Hope you can make it work!
Thank you such a sweet channel…..takes me away from all the political mess in the U.S. Hi to Sam, dinner looked yummy! Loved your sweater. I think we could be great friends if I lived there. ❤❤❤ God Bless all of you.
Love the door. Hope you can make it work!
I love the door with the glass panes❤
Kitties are sleeping peacefully. They are just so precious. My Kitties say Hi from Indiana in the USA. Love the French door.Don't know if they call them that in France, lol.I think it would look great as a front door. Whatever you decide it'll look good.
Yep I had to resubscribe again
Thanks
Great progress, I agree with another poster a bench or seating area etc right above the stone work you are currently working on.
Love the reuse of the doors for panelling Sean
I really wish I could do a rendering of how this is going to turn out, it’s going to look great and like it’s always been there
Great progress Sean; good work. Next time Sam lifts the lid on a dish like that, would she mind even just listing the ingredients? My room was suddenly filled with delicious aromas but I had no way to try her recipe. Thx!
I googled it Lamb Tagine and up popped the recipes, simples 🤷♀️
@@patriciakeogh5008Excellent; I will do the same.
Got the coffee mug last week. Sent to my Son, Sean, as a late Christmas present. Thanks Sean!
Awesome! Thank you!
That wall is what I call a character feature!
Still subbed!
agree with all the others a glass panel front door would bring so much light into the cottage. you may just fine another door 🤩
The panel idea is great, would look beautiful. The glass door would be great too with natural light coming through!
The panel would look nice but it would have to be light wood as the cottage is quite dark.
Hi would it be a good idea to put a porch on the front .so you can make the door fit as it's such a small room .it would be extra space which is always welcome. Rachel x
The steps would make it difficult
@@Seans_World but not impossible for a man of many talents xx
I've gotten in the habit of checking on the subscribe bell every time I check on my channels.....it just happens.
Door with glass panels-yes
I like the limecrete wall skimming as an idea for the wall. The white would really brighten the space. 👍
Unfortunately l need to run cables etc behind it
The door with the glass would bring a lot more light into the cottage I just looked up a recipe for lamb tagine, yours looked so good.
Sean, how long do you think it would take to finish the cottage and move in, maybe you can rent it out to get a little extra income. I can practically taste that wonderful meal lovely Sam has made. Did she ever think of having a UA-cam channel I definitely would love to watch it, she’s such a lovely lady 🌟❤️
She has a youtube channel l will be giving her a shout out soon
Sean the progress is going well in the cottage. Sam, that meal looked yummy. ❤
It’s all coming along nicely Sean and looking great 👏🏻👏🏻😊
I don’t know if you know who Bob Ross is? You’ve got his “Vibe”!!! I could watch you do anything , very, very happily!!! Lots of luv from 💜💖💜💖💜🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Have a blessed day.
You too
I’ve been watching from Australia for a long time, but didn’t realise I should leave a message. One thing I’ve been wondering for awhile is, in Australia a wife is used as a trades assistant or nothing would get done. She is expected to be cook and chief bottle washer as well (aust slang)
I just subscribed for the second time
Thanks
Yes, it was difficult finding your channel again, glad I did
Welcome back!
I love how your 3 cats are all curled up together on a cushion. My 3 have to be kept separated because they are so mean to each other
Great to see your progress, Sean!
I like the door for the front if it’s doable.
I've just had to resubscribe, also. The home/cottage projects ain't half coming altogether. So looking forward to seeing everything finished.
I have to move to France. Look at all that beautiful green grass ! In January! The lamb dish looks beautiful. We eat a lot of lamb. I will have to look up that recipe. Wait it out for the right door to come along. You can still use that one upstairs as planned.
Sean, l received your notifications regularly. Not a problem from my end🇨🇦
I'm wondering if that lower support wall that you're currently building can be made I to a bench? That would be so convenient right by the entry door.
Everything looks great I think the door or the style of it would look great even if you had one with window to the half point. Gives light to the kitchen. Maybe a second hand door with some ventilation option would be better for the summer. The kittens are cute and Mum is keeping the peace with the remote confiscation ;) dinner looks great Sam will be warming and delicious. Love the jumper :)
👍❤
This unsubscribing has been happening the last couple of months for many UA-camrs. Sorry to hear this. Much love Sean
Hey Sean instead of bending your tape measure to try and get a measurement, put your tape measure up tight against where your measuring from pull out the length to where its going then add the numbers which should be written on the base of your tape measure (which is the length of the tape measure itself) and you'll get an exact measurement without bending the tape and trying to guess. I only recently learnt this myself, hope this helps. Cheers
Yes it was just a rough measurement, thanks for sharing your tip 👍
From my gut I feel you should not use the doors as panels. Rather keep that wall as plain as possible as the staircase will be a heavy element in a small space. You will need the simple plain negative space to prevent a cluttered, claustrophobic, feel. Maybe one door upstairs, if you can work it in, but none downstairs plz. My opinion.
after all this time I have lost track in what you have planned for this cottage.
To restore it
BEST
sky in France?
The door is lovely and will let the light in, but as you say it’s the work involved against the price of getting another..
You could get a door made . One which opens 1/2 and 1/2 with a small window in the top .so you can open the door at the top to let fresh air in and keep the botten door closed.
That would be nice if l had that sort of budget 2k upwards
Do the door.. people would love to see that... Just do it.
