I like to think the Knight and Dragon work like Ralph and Sam from Looney Tunes. They’re actually good friends, and the fighting is just their day job
Hey, that’s actually a good comparison and funny thing is a few days ago. I was actually thinking of what would’ve happened if Sir Brian and the dragon actually got to be animated. I was thinking like maybe for Voice wise, sir Brian would have like a British accent, but he sound a bit like a night, but he would be a little more goofy kind of like the nights in Monty Python but tone down for children. He still have that goofy aesthetic though, and maybe for like maybe sometimes his helmet could fall down because that’s a thing for nights like it would block his vision for a few seconds and then have to fix it. And as for the dragon, I’m not sure what kind of Voice would suit him, he could have a goofy voice, but maybe more of a child like Voice like think of like Willie, the giant like his voice, except a little softer think of that attitude, but softer and coming out of a purple dragon’s mouth I think the voice similar to figment wouldn’t really suit him. It would probably sound too similar and people might think it’s like bland. it is a shame that they weren’t in anything aside from comics I would’ve loved to see them. I feel like if I got to see them I probably would’ve fell in love with them. I really liked dragons growing up. Well that’s probably because of dragon tales but I think a lot of us grew up with that show

"The world according to Winnie Da Pooh" Felt more like that time where Timon and Pumbaa teaches people about internet safety and they have Tablets and computers made out of Bamboo. Plus there's a library in the middle of the jungle... somehow.
There were a couple more obscure Pooh related things such as “Good Citizenship with Winnie the Pooh” and “Beginning Auditory and Reading Skills with Winnie the Pooh”.
The World According to Winnie the Pooh sounds like it would be an interesting modern take on the characters. I think in the final product, they would’ve used the official voices.
Certainly better than that lame Daniel Tiger knockoff they're pushing.
Now with Pooh being public domain, it would be very interesting to see Cartoon Saloon have their own take on the hundred acre woods (minus all the Disney stuff)

@@christianryan7207 If you're referring on an alternate take because they're in public domain, having the same voice actors would be missing the point. We should get something completely new and fresh to differentiate themselves from Disney's well known version. If you're referring to the Playdate with Pooh show, eh... I don't think that would save it.

9:15 There are actually a few episodes of "The New Adventures of Winnie The Pooh" where we see Tigger get pounced ("The 'New' Eeyore" immediately comes to mind), and he's either absolutely confused by it, or outright hates it. Tigger indeed can not take what he dishes to others.
That’s always been a strange personality quirk to me for Tigger. He’s always seems very eager to share his passion for bouncing with others (I.e. encouraging Rabbit and the others to join several times), but always seems threatened at the idea of being outdone. Maybe his issue is less not being able to take what he dishes and more a lack of self esteem and purpose, which he grants himself through bouncing?

@@ColinLooksBack Cool I have always wished that Winnie The Pooh could have crossover adventure episodes and movies where he meets other Cartoon Characters even other characters from the Disney universe especially Disney and Pixar's greatest hero WALL-E the cutest and most advanced robot in the world that would be totally awesome don't you think?
Omg, a cartoon Saloon Winnie the Pooh would’ve been the best thing!! Even if the pitch needed a revision, that would’ve been a perfect match. Hope they would pursue it anyways now that Pooh’s in the public domain.

They ditched Cartoon Salon with the explicit reason that Cartoon Saloon is too male and too white.
And of course. Cartoon Saloon is an Irish/Danish company, so yeah... They are Irish and Danish the guys working there so... erhm...
Also they were a bunch of independent coming together and making good movies by themselves, so clearly there was no big advantage here with them being male and white, they were just a small group that happened to be that coming together making "Book of the celts." on a very small budget and worked from there.
They could've picked up the pilot because play date/me & is crap

A friend of mine came up with a theory about that infamous comic strip: we looked it up, and it turned out the writer used to work for Jay Ward, so we figured he must have held onto that sense of humor. We figured, a lot of Pooh's more out-of-character-sounding moments may make more sense coming out of Bullwinkle. It's the mismatch between the wordplay and Pooh being aggresively on-model that makes the strip so memorable and memetic.
Funny you mention that connection, because turns out Jay Ward wanted to do a film adaptation of Pooh Bear before Disney when NBC had the license. However it was turned into a TV series instead due to NBC finding a film adaptation risky, with there being 3 known composed songs for the pilot, as well the pilot being fully storyboarded with finished character model sheets. The pilot never made it to the animation stages sadly and seems to be lost. Maybe those Jay Ward Pooh designs still exist out there somewhere, hoping at least we can get those at the very least
I actually have a piece of Winnie the Pooh fanart that has Pooh & friends helping Rabbit grow his garden "My Neighbor Totorro" style (as in walking & leaping around the garden patches while carrying leaf umbrellas, and making the vegetation grow by magically pulling up the sprouts from the soil).
It's just a concept piece with simplified versions of the characters with leaf umbrellas.

You should do a "Grab Bag" episode dedicated to some of spinoff books and comic staring Marie, Toulouse, and Berlioz. There's also an obscure picture book from 2012 starring Marie called The Aristocats: The Runaway Kittens" (Marie på rymmen (Marie on the run) in Sweden) where Marie temporarily becomes an stray kitten after losing her bows and ribbons during a stroll in Paris. During this period, she befriends an orange kitten resembling Toulouse who shows her the lifestyle for cats that are homeless and lacking food. Poor Marie is reduced to tears after realizing she's no longer pretty and misses her owner and family.
There's also an ongoing graphic novel series starring Marie and her brothers titled "The Aristokittens" where they open an animal cafe in Paris and currently has four books in the series. The novels reminds me of the cancelled Aristocats Animated Series idea from 2003 and The Aristocats II that never became a thing.
3 things I want to say for your villains retrospective
1. I know this won't be for awhile but when you do your Big Hero 6 video you should crossover with Comic Drake. He can explain the Comic book stuff you might not get.
2. For the Moana video you should do a crossover with Schafrillas for obvious reasons.
3. You should do a video for Disney video game villains not connected to a specific movie or TV show like Kingdom Hearts, Club Penguin, Where's my Water and probably some others.
If there's one thing I wish to see out of a public domain Pooh Bear, and I doubt we'd get it, is some sort of alternate animation take on the character. Preferably an 80's, early 90's style anime series similar to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Something totally different from the more famous interpretation, with a lot of beautiful art work and relaxing, chill ambiance. Could you imagine if we had one of those back in the day? Anyway, the rarest thing Pooh related I can think of predates Disney. Jay Ward Productions was in the early stages of developing Winnie the Pooh into a theatrical project, even going as far as writing a song or two for it. Nothing came out of it, of course, and Disney swooped up the rights soon after. Whatever concept art/pitch material is clearly lost to time, so we can only imagine a Pooh cartoon in the style of Fractured Fairytales (when they could afford to use their Hollywood animation studio). I'd like to think Bill Scott would have voiced Tigger, similar to Filmore the Bear from Hoppity Hooper.
A Jay Ward Pooh would have been very interesting! I think they could have nailed Milne's brand of humor.
@@ColinLooksBack In case you're wondering, that info was from the book "The Moose that Roared," which is most likely long out of print. At least Winnie the Pooh got a mention in a Dudley Do-Right cartoon. Dudley threatens to not read it to Snidely when he was raising him like a child.
This was totally fantastic and you should definitely do more videos like this. I love Pooh Bear and I also hope that someday someone will make a new Pooh Bear story which isn’t horror related. I have no interest in seeing Blood and Honey either because that is not Pooh Bear to me. Thank you for sharing all of this with us and the characters and stories were quite interesting and there’s several other educational Pooh Bear stories which you could make a video on or I wouldn’t mind seeing you do one about the none book characters like Goopher as well. Keep up the great work!

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not that bothered with seeing Pooh and friends interact with modern technology, as long as they remain in character of course. "We Bare Bears" has a similar vibe and it turned out well.
As for Sir Brian and the Dragon, I feel having those characters interact with Pooh's gang would work for either a one-time special, or if the "New Adventures" show had the latter tell stories to each other involving the duo. I also kind of like the idea of the dragon and Sir Brian being good friends, as if they would only meddle with each other as part of a job, a la Ralph Wolf and Sam the Sheepdog.
“Sir Brian” is also the name of the elderly general in *Bedknobs and Broomsticks* played by Reginald Owen.
The World According to Winnie the Pooh does seem like a potential idea for bringing Pooh back as a regular TV show, but ultimately got lost to time and never greenlit. Side-note, Piglet in that pilot was voiced by Nigel Pilkington who used his Percy voice from the UK CGI Series dub of Thomas (the Tank Engine) & Friends.
Also, while I have yet to see the 2018 Christopher Robin film (I hadn't seen it yet), but when seeing a few images of Evelyn, it makes me wonder what if she'd be a secondary regular character in the New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh as well (as a friend of Christopher Robin and friends with Pooh and stuff), given how a few episodes had the animals go to Christopher's neighborhood and other characters like a few Heffelumps are now the allies to the Hundred Acre Wood, etc. I'd love to see someone make an artwork of Evelyn as a child.
Yes this grabbag format is really fascinating if the themes are shared and coherently edited. I love this idea!
7:22 Those comics feel like they just took random jokes and illustrated them with Pooh characters without taking their personalities into consideration. That being said...I usually don't like it when Disney adds characters to the Winnie-the-Pooh pantheon because I feel like the cast A. A. Milne created is perfection but Sir Brian and the dragon sound fun and like they would fit in with the world of Pooh quite well.
Remember the wartime short Reason and Emotion? Well, they returned in the 80s for some educational shorts, such as one themed around alcohol.
They had a whole division of educational films, consisting of a mix of original works and re-edited versions of Disney features. They still make educational videos today.
6:09 - You certainly spoke everything that came out of my own mouth. There are things that I like, such as all of the cast having English accents, the art direction and animation, and things that I didn't like, such as a backyard and devices (the latter of which turns me off).
Pooh Corner concept art, If I had to take an educated guess at when this was made I would say sometime shortly before 2011. Given its placement next to "It's a Small world" this is probably meant to replace "Mickey's ToonTown". The one located in Florida at the Magic Kingdom was closed at this time to make room for the "new fantasyland" expansion. There was also a new animated Winnie the Pooh movie that came out that year. They could have been toy with the idea of closing the ToonTown at Disneyland at the same time end replacing it with a newland, this is very likely a concept art idea for one of those land ideas.
Maybe if they do a revival of The New Adventures, maybe they could add in Sir Brian and the Dragon, they could be a good comic relief, and help distinguish the revival from the original.
And I know there has been no announcements of a revival, but I think a lot of us can agree that if they want to make new Pooh projects while being unique in there own regard, then a New Adventure’s revival series could be a good decision, that series shows that while they can be faithful to Milne’s books, they can also have more outlandish stories with original characters and locations just to mix things up without modernising the source material, and considering that Disney has brought back The Proud Family, X-Men and Star Wars: The Clone Wars for Disney +, then a New Adventures revival could be a good decision, especially when the original was on syndication for almost 20 years after it ended and both Jim Cummings and Peter Cullen are still alive, then I feel that Disney has a good opportunity with Pooh (even if he is now banned in China).
You just gave me an acid flashback to being a kid who had just transferred schools after moving across the country and going into the elementary school library, (cause that particular school district had k-6 grade) and being in the back area where they kept all their movies and the old stuff high on shelves collecting dust and boom, can still see several boxes that had Mickey Mouse on them that had Winnie the Pooh educational shorts on them. I think they were still on reels, or maybe VHS

I grew up in a college town with a planetarium, and in the late 1980s, they had a Winnie the Pooh show that even included the Sherman Brothers theme song. I have not been able to find any information about it beyond a newspaper listing. Now I’m wondering whether there were any other Disney planetarium shows and how long this went on for. Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket using “When You Wish Upon a Star” as a springboard to talk about actual stars seems like a no-brainer.
Now THAT's a piece of obscure media that sounds interesting! I actually remember sometime in the early 2000's seeing a demonstration of an orchestra that featured pre-recorded voices of Harry Potter & friends observing them (they're wearing the invisibility cloak). It still pops into my head from time to time. This was either right before or right after the first movie came out, but I'm sure it wasn't the film actors.
I want to see more of these for other characters from Disney or even other studios
I should’ve put this in the villain episode, but I didn’t remember this existed until now. Use this as a reminder of what was the most infamous Pooh-related piece of media from before Blood and Honey happened:

I think I remember seeing that on the Disney Channel or at school. It’s a shame it never gets bundled in with any of the OG Pooh reissues.
The 1967-1983 Pooh cartoons still need to be remastered for 4k both in featurette and feature form to get all the mutually exclusive bits and pieces. Hopefully, they won’t let this one slip through the cracks again.
With Sir Brian and the Dragon i get a Sam and Ralph vibe in which they view there chasing of one another as a job and are civil when off duty

If Sir Brian and the Dragon ever made it into any of the 60s and 70s Pooh cartoons, I imagine J. Pat O’Malley would voice Sir Brian, and Barnett Parker would voice the Dragon.

Oh bother. I personally don’t like movies or tv shows that show text bubbles or social media even though it’s something I act with on a regular basis. I would love to make a Winnie the Pooh movie where he meets the dragon and knight.
In the future, when Lilo & Stitch live-action remake was released, there may be some sketches from the 1980's, the pitchbook, and other lost media.
The dragon looks like a combination of the titular Reluctant Dragon and a purple Yoshi from the Mario games
There was also educated shorts called "Back to School with Winnie the Pooh" in which Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore and Roo learn about school.

You just hit me with a big nostalgia brick with the knight and the dragon. I used to get the Winnie the Pooh comics in mail and suddenly the memories of those two came back.

I remember the Pooh comics from the 70's, and 80's, and recall seeing the Knight, and Dragon. They could've easily been brought into 'New Adventures'.
I actually remember my Kindergarten classroom as a kid having the children's book of the Sir Brian and the Dragon story as a kid. Keep in mind I'm in my thirties remembering something I read before I was in grade school, so of course I don't remember the details, it consisted of two stories; one of Sir Brian chasing the Dragon through the 100 Acre Wood and causing mayhem for Pooh and friends, and the second where Sir Brian invites the gang to his castle and the Dragon only appears as the end to use his fire breath to help cook wieners.
My inner 18th century French peasant finds a Pooh show taking place in a gated community to be deeply unsettling. It feels as if they're saying "Sorry poors, Pooh is for rich kids." Kudos to modern Disney for making a rare good decision by not green lighting the show.

Walt Disney suggested a more uniquely American character to acclimate audiences to the established ones. This created an uproar in Great Britain, as if it was another example of the sun setting on the British Empire.

Sir Brian looks like he belongs in The Sword in the Stone, The Black Cauldron, or even The Adventures of the Gummi Bears. However, I would like to see him and the Dragon in other media, especially The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
He actually looks like a prototype of Sir Tuxford from *Gummi Bears.*

Yeah, cell phones and Pooh should not mix. I like to think of Pooh's little world as a place where modern things can show up at times, but at the end of the day, it's still just a forest where they live in trees and such, and everything's just kind of cobbled-together - I distinctly remember Rabbit getting his water via an old-fashioned hand-pump system in 'New Adventures. How'd he get it? Who knows; probably there when he moved in. Something like, say, a skateboard or a toy car fits in fine in the Hundred-Acre Woods, but a cell phone? Uh-uh - raises way too many questions.

I love this Grab Bag video idea! Personally, I'm glad that the Cartoon Saloon Pooh pilot didn't get made [turning the Hundred Acre Woods into a gated community is awful], but I am also interested in future public domain Winnie The Pooh projects and stories, as long as they don't go the lazy horror route. Hoping for a possible Black Cauldron Grab Bag video one day, if more information on the foreign comics gets revealed.
You should do one for many video game only characters or many forgotten Mario characters from the cartoons

We do see how Tigger feels about getting bounced himself. There’s an episode of The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh in which Eeyore tries to be like Tigger. He paints himself with stripes and starts to bounce on people, including Tigger - and Tigger absolutely hates it.
I remember the comics from being a kid. In fact, I read more of those than I watched Disney Pooh cartoons (not much cartoons in my childhood for reasons). Since all the Milne characters are either Chrisopher Robin's toys (say, Pooh) or animals from around his house (say, Rabbit), I assumed the knight and the dragon were toys as well - Sir Brian is simply a more human action figure. (Christopher Robin in the books has not only fluffy toys, just like any child might have different toys.)
This was a lovely video. It's really cool to see these lesser-known parts of Winnie the Pooh's history! I look forward to more "grab bag" videos like this in the future.
As weird as the new voices and modern setting would be, I'm a little disappointed that pilot didn't get picked up; the art style, at the very least, is absolutely darling! I'm sure I could get used to the changes if it meant getting to see more of it~

Pooh Bear works fine in the modern world but he is best suited to bumbling through little kid adjacent areas such as getting lost in the spooky museum at night, or more zaney adventures such as Christopher Robin must prevent a second Chernobyl by getting Pooh to not press a big red button. He gets lost on a tour and bumbles his way into restricted zones or something. He should accidentally teach a lesson as well, not on purpose but by sheer accident, similar to the Christopher Robin movie. Love Winnie the Pooh

You know, it's weird. Just last night, I was watching someone stream Kingdom Hearts, when when they got to the Winnie the Pooh section, I was bringing up stuff from The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh as well as A Day for Eeyore, and I was apparently blowing the streamer's mind, because despite growing up with Winnie the Pooh too, they apparently forgot some details like the origin of Pooh Sticks, or the quote "Now when Pooh heard his Pooh-koo Clock, he knew it was time for something..." I mean, I did watch these animated shorts and features multiple times, both as a kid and as an adult, so I know the backwards and forwards, and I'm not afraid to flaunt my knowledge when the opportunity presents itself. I think I'll use this video as a means to continue to wow that streamer. :P

Funny how one of them is some characters from the originally from the books. Kind of similar to Old Mugger in The Jungle Book comics being based on Jacala from the original Rudyard Kipling's books.
Though you forgot to mention the Great School Bus Adventure from Welcome to Pooh corner.
Wishing Winnie the Pooh wasn't public domain so the horror movie wouldn't have been made does not necessarily mean it would work like that. I don't believe The Banana Splits are in the public domain, and we still received the similar Banana Splits horror movie. It all depends on what people are prepared to pay current copyright dues for.
I do think such things are inappropriate and I just ignore them, though I still worry about how it may badly impact the characters over time if this turns out to be the common trend.
If only if it's was truth then none of that public domain stuff wouldn't happened.

I'm not crazy about the "public domain" in general because it gives authors less control over adaptations of their work but I kind of wish Winnie the Pooh had been in public domain during the 90s so that the same people who did The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends and the 1995 Wind in the Willows could have adapted the books. That could have been great.
I really like the art style for the pooh pilot. Kinda wishing this had been picked up even if the inclusion of cell phones felt kind of strange.
They wanted to bring the setting back to England, but make it look more like England is now. I don’t think the implication of the Hundred Acre Wood being turned into a housing development would sit well with too many viewers on either side of the pond. That might be harder to accept than the cell phones when I see children bringing them into restaurants and watching TV while they eat.

Please do more videos like this. I’m also excited for more Winnie The Pooh content and while Blood and Honey is terrible, never saw it myself but I heard from others, I'm all for the good and the bad.
For what it's worth (and I know this sort of thing is always subjective. ) , I've heard "Blood and Honey" isn't much of a horror movie anyway. I like horror movies, but I also skipped for pretty much the same reasons you expressed.

I think the dragon character should've been in the animated series, and been given a name. I'm not sure about the knight, but the dragon _definatly_ should've been in the cartoon...
Yeah, I understand how you feel about Pooh interacting with a cell phone it does feel a bit much and I have to agree. I would prefer to have timelessness even though technology is something if it’s more futuristic or fantasy driven then it does seem timeless, but I don’t know Pooh using a phone doesn’t seem as timeless
What do you think of the Winnie the Pooh puppet show that aired with Shirly Temple and the Russian Winnie the Pooh?
The Shirley Temple one makes me think that Pooh and Piglet are trying to escape from Austria to get away from the Nazis.
I haven't seen enough of the Shirley Temple one to form a full opinion. The Russian shorts are delightful, and proof the Disney aren't the only ones who can do something great with Pooh.

I’m a lifelong Winnie the Pooh fan since I was a little kid and I still love it and I even like Winnie the Pooh blood and honey it was honestly a decent movie
There are different franchises for the characters including the Disney franchise with its many movies, TV shows, and printed media!
“We’ll get more potential great Pooh stories” -we are going to get a THIRD Blood and Honey film and that same garbage studio is making a cinematic universe with different public domain Disney characters all set in horror. I REALLY wish Pooh wasn’t in the public domain

The first Blood and Honey is awful. Trust us. The sequel is SOMEWHAT better (like, most of the animals actually get to talk this time around (I say most since Pooh is still silent)), but... I kinda wanna watch it for curiosity's sake. Also, it should be noted that Bambi, Pinocchio, and Peter Pan are also in the public domain, and as such, we're gonna get horror films set in the same universe as these Winnie the Pooh films. Oh, boy...
