I wonder if tlincalli fluoresce under UV light like most if not all species of Earth scorpions do? That'd be *awesome.*
Why does everything love to eat halflings?
Halflings really do taste delicious. If you scratch me, I smell like cookies.
@@AJPickett ....ah, you know, I think I'll take your word for it heheh
A Lizardfolk buddy of mine used to like them roasted over an open fire with a sprinkling of lime.
Cause they small
If it smol it is easier to eat :3
They tend to be plump to
Hobbit scratchings are the best 😋
Never heard of these beasties b4 but kinda makes sense they would exist in fantasy when there are centaurs and driders
This video just convinced me to make my sorcerer a Tlincalli. It’s in pathfinder and she’ll be a Storm Kindler…this’ll be fun.
10:20 My mom is a sociao worker and was workih for the army durig the height of the Afghanistan war. She had several soldiers told her that though camel spiders were harmless, they creeped everyone out. Several of them would follow you around durig the day to try and stay in your shadow out of the sun😂
Ahh, yes, strange dnd lore that I didn’t even know existed. Must be AJ coming in with the aluminum bat of knowledge ready to expose by brain matter to eden’s grace via blunt force narration trauma.
Now our beloved dire halfling sage has evolved to a higher being. So I am guessing that we are hearing a reading of his accumulated works that are kept in candlekeep? I would love a story about the life of our beloved sage.
Oh, what a tale it is!
Certified banger of a video!
Ever seen a sun spider? Camel spider? Had a buddy in the Sand box send me pictures of one. Over a foot long. Pretty crazy.
My unit had one! Camel spider I mean. We kept him in a box and took turns watering and feeding him (I say him but we had no idea). Mostly various bugs we found.
Yeah the idea that an arachnid can get that big is nightmare fuel...
There are Halflings and then there's Sage Halflings (with godlike CR). One is a delicacy to half of Faerun, the other decides who lives and who dies.
Sage Halfling is considered a delicacy and holiday dish in some circles😁
The Sage and Dire Halfling (thanks to his mixed ancestry - not dragon) Picaroon Highhand is a D&D Basic Immortal of the Sphere of Thought, he has an assigned region of the Prime to investigate but is currently living back on Toril, slowly accumulating one Power Point per 10k experience points, which will allow him to attain a higher rank (eventually, if he attends the Immortal Olympics and qualifies for advancement), so, this is why he doesn't use his immortal form or powers while on Toril, as it would reduce his power points... if an emergency occurs, he can drop his mortal disguise and manifest his full immortal power, but yeah, that can kill mortal beings in his presence if he is not very careful. As of the time these most recent videos are set (1499 DR) he has completed construction of the Highhand Tower on Mintarn Island. But, his story will slowly unfold...
@@AJPickett Something about " The Divine Edict, " truce of the gods.
The .. " .. Immortals .. " .. can only walk on a given world at a restrain power level to prevent the earth realms from distorting the fabric of reality.
That was something from the Forgotten Realms box set or guidebook or something back in the late 1980's, maybe from the early 90's.
Other than the arguing debates of mythology vs religions, which I have to deal with too many times or the years. Then there is the comic book character toxic fandom on who is more powerful, Superman or Thor.
Uh, which Superman or Thor ?
Then there is Loki.
Us public school system or people in general on not too keen on critical thinking skills.
Well other than more insults.
The .. Norse .. needed an explanation for Earthquakes, so Loki did something to get venom dripped into his eyes and due to the nature of time & space of the world tree and nine realms, you have Loki and earthquakes.
Then hear a few snobs make remarks about how to read a Myth, compared to real religion.
I follow up with, Thor sticks his hammer between Loki eyes and holy taser him like a plasma field storm seen in Star Trek DS9 tv series. Any of you seen the movie " 2012 " where an earthquake takes out the USA west coast ?
True power of the gods would rip a world apart. ( AD&D, over size huge air elemental : Storm of Vengeance.)
Now as for proper reading of a Myth, you roll over in bed, readjust your hand under your head for comfort. Poke yourself in the eye cause you to sit up in bed really quick. Now brace your hand against the wall for balance support, now Everything goes wrong and your stub your fingers, drop your foot to the floor to steady yourself .. yeah .. those were your toes. Now you are trying not to scream in pain as you shake your bedroom wall.
Not even half awake, you pick up your water bottle or glass and smack it to your chin or upper lip for added joy.
Sadly, or with comfort I meet more than a few people over the years who had these events happen to them over the years.
I don't feel special, since I know I am not the only one that goes through this in life.
I can tell you multiple stories about , .. coffee tables.
@@krispalermo8133 ... I am of Norwegian ancestry.
@@AJPickett Lovely 💯
Bless the Mighty GlueStick
I really do love your work Mr AJ Pickett.
Not the most original concept for a creature but really well realized! Giant scorpions styled as Egyptian warriors: very cool!
Not the most... heh! Scorpion men or girtablullû feature in several Akkadian language myths from ancient Mesopotamia, including the epic Enûma Elish and the Standard Babylonian version of the Epic of Gilgamesh.
@@AJPickettbarely 4000 years old so its about as original as the idea of scissors.
@@blakereid5785 Granted Scissors are pretty cool.
@@AJPickett Giant invisible mouse traps hang in doorways are fun too.
I do like these giant arthropods.
Also I like scorpion people.
giant vinegraroon.
can anyone turn the gas into a liquid and them add that as an alchemical component?
i can only imagine how much gold something like that can sell by.
giant bugs, best source of gold.
What struck me was the gas being described as "Sultry"... wtf? That word does not mean what I think they think it means...
@@AJPickett who knows?
maybe is an aphrodisiac.
@@AJPickett weirder things happpen in a magical word.

@@pensador6953 Oh I have, I greatly enjoyed my time with my Githyanki girlfriend.
so are u sayin they do hunt blue dragons ot they dont?
@@docop8926 they don't and will serve them to avoid becoming food
Yeah, they will serve a Blue Dragon or other stronger predator. They are also very superstitious and firmly believe that their death, their fate, is already written, so they fight with near reckless ferocity... however, they are smart enough not to go antagonizing dragons.
Anyway great as allways AJ.
Ticks also count as arachnids, are there any half tick half humanoid creatures?
SPOON!
@@AJPickett I can imagine the humanoid part looking like a halfling or a goblin.
good video AJ
Thanks Chris
I am currently making a chart for DND group who want to play zodiac theme.
Would choosing Tlincalli as player race for Scorpio a good idea?
Sure, sounds fun.
@@AJPickett Thanks.
I remember the AJ that said "Fuck WotC" because of the nefarious things they were doing. So much for Gen X resiliency, a revenue source starts to dry up and y'all bow down to the corpo overlords licking their boots trying to get their leftovers.
Sell-out, grow a backbone.
Thanks for the feedback, always appreciated. 😉
I'm glad aj's back. I love his videos. I've watched , if not all, then nearly all and will continue to do so. Please keep making videos aj thank you
Do they wear armour or barding?
Give them armour/barding,and javelins I reckon with maybe some shields for higher teir play.
only that which they take from other humanoids, so they don't have anything for their lower half.
@@AJPickett dam Tlincalli could at least put scorpion pants on when they feed you to their young.
Finally people who can understand my frustration every time someone asks me what's my sign... ;)
🎼Spooky scary scorpions(?) see how fast they run! 🎼
Excellent video (also creepy af lol) 😂
You forgot to mention there connection to obox ob, and how he supports them.
I almost feel sorry for any of these things serving under a blue dragon. They're terrible, cruel masters.
I just recently received my copy of the Tanares 5e supplement from its Kickstarter, and one of the major intelligent races seems an aweful lot like the tlincalli. Ed Greenwood was a major contributor, so.....
So do Tlincalli have claws or just scorpion stingers? The art doesn't seem to be very clear
They generally don't have pincers.
Omg I'm first
Interesting!
you now , the problem with giant spiders and bugs is that mostly they are so montrous and bizarre already not much can be done, you can try to "chimerize" the creature, but feels a bit basic
i really like the notion of a highly mutagenic form of magic aura or radiation giving normal animal or regular monstera a extra pinch of the unknown, maybe some panache with the presentation.
imagine that : Investigating reports of a misterious force turning regular everday creatures into monsters never before seem, our brave adventures find themselves in a bind as a previously well - known creature proves more than originally perceived.
I always considered the spiked cain to be a very impractical weapon no matter who wields it
I wonder what's the origin story of the Tlincalli
One day this wizard had this funny idea for a guard creature... probably.
@@AJPickett Ahhhhhh! Those dang wizards again!
The scorpion king
I think my halfling barbarian would go to these places with the scorpion folk, and eat them!
PANR (seamus) was here
Seamus!
@AJPickett good to see ya, friend!
Cool. I have never heard of these guys before.
One of my favourite desert monsters
Well thats ironic😁. I commented about these creepy bug men a couple weeks ago. At least driders are cursed. These guys being an actual people are nightmare fuel.
Hey AJ, great video as always. That is a very scary looking creature.
I was looking at the stats wondering why everything is based off of medium size. The person its self is medium size, that I understand. Another oddity is the spiked chain, it auto grapples and restrains (escape DC is based off of the creature's Dexterity). The only thing I can think of that does all of that is the man catcher weapon. Mechanical this creature is really weird. If I was a player and seen what that spiked chain can do I would take it and use it, plus it's one-handed. Wish WotC would release more formulas on how things are suppose work. Hopefully the new DMG will have more helpful information.
Thanks AJ, you have a wonderful day!
@mattnerdy7236 gotta remember player character races are medium sized or smaller so WOTC design monster abilities for fighting medium sized humanoids and smaller forgetting that spells like polymorph and wildshape exist along with animal companions
@@zacharyweaver276 I have to remember that players are medium or smaller size and that WotC designed monsters to fight medium or smaller size and I need to remember that WotC forgot about spells and abilities.
What!!? 😂
I'm talking about the weapon damage compared to its size and the spiked chain with amazing abilities that anybody can use --> large, medium or smaller size. Let me make this simple for you, nothing to remember. It's a large size creature doing damage of a medium size creature. It's a monster not a player wild shaping into a large size creature. I find it amazing you know what I am doing wrong and what WotC is doing wrong. And you did all that without taking the time to at least hit the like button on my comment. Must be all that thinking 🤔
@mattnerdy7236 I did like your comment. I see I misunderstood what you meant. Yeah some monsters damage doesn't fit their size
There are a bunch of design problems with these particular chimeric people, but even so, I like the concept here: using technology these people would never have on their own, a people/species has become invasive. Pretty cool idea I think even if it has problems with its execution.
What kind of design problems?
@@lelduck6388 I assume going back and forth on if they have pincers or not.
@@DIEGhostfishI assumed he was talking about organ placement and what kind of circulatory and skeletal system they have.
Here we go an AJ vid on my way to work
What happened to the giant death scorpion A.J. ?
Its coming, giant scorpion vid is due next month, but Tlincalli needed covering as lots of folks are playing the Lost Tomb of Tsojanth lately.
@@AJPickett cool liked the tlincalli episode always thought they got the short end of the stick lore wise since 2nd edition
I want to learn more about Morandun now. Sounds like a fun place for adventuring
Love these guys glad to see them covered. Sound perfect for desert encounters. Considering scorpions live in forests and jungles I wonder if they could have variants
Absolutely they do.
