He does two different screams. One hurts his voice but sounds really good on albums but when he is touring he uses a safer scream which you can hear here doesnt sound as good recorded.

His safe screaming technique is utilized by raising the nasal cavity in the roof of your mouth. It is near your sinuses. It’s like axel from Guns N’ Roses, but you lean more into the sound, making it sound more distorted. Try talking like spongebob, or singing a song out of your range while mixing your chest voice and head voice. And of course, use your diaphragm and remain hydrated. I know I am saying just a bunch of words, but that is my overall description of how he screams. I use the same technique as well.

This was the first Trivium song I heard, back in 2008 around the release of Shogun. I had just started to explore music containing growling/screaming, and... I didn't like the song! I tried again some weeks later, still didn't like it. I tried once again a month later or so, and then it started growing on me. It's now one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands!

Does anyone else hear how his voice is softer live than on the albums? I understand there's a lot of double tracking and other stuff that goes on during production but something doesn't seem right when he sings. I'm wondering if it's just him practicing different styles or a confidence issue, ect? Idk. Either way, I'm still rocking out hard

Courtney Brown listen to old live performances, he’s only had the softer vocals since silence in the snow... tbh i much prefer the old, more powerful vocals but they’re still amazing live 💯😍
He had to learn a new screaming technique after blowing out his voice. He said on records he is using his old technique but, live, he uses his new one

I love Matt's vocals, but he really should be using grit in his vocals during the verses/choruses. Otherwise great performance
He really shouldn't be. He stated a number of times that this isn't a concert and that he saves his voice for the live performances.
