Sounds like the G6 and 628 soundset had a baby and gave birth to this sounds wise.
Not great if I’m honest
The sounds are recorded from a real driver and filled in with other sounds if they couldn't get any.
You're free to make your own sounds if you're unhappy but tsg worked with what they had access to
Hey, Joe! The loco resembles the TMZ that runs in Denmark and Sweden, but those are made by NOHAB in Sweden and have american EMD engines. As you knows Germans don't use horns, unless emergency. Maybe that's why the horn is so "thin"?

What addons do I require for having just the Maintalbahn and the 218 (I don't want to get Hamburg - Lubeck)?
Hmm I think its just Maintalbahn? Although looking at the article it mentions 'Players with both Hamburg - Lübeck and Maintalbahn will be able to operate additional services on the more recent Maintalbahn route Add-on'
Hamburg Lubeck is the main line to use this add on on. I literally paid 5€ for that dlc just a couple months ago
You will need Hamburg-Lübeck to drive on Maintalbahn, because it takes the Dostos from there

I wonder how you got this WiP version that was never intended for the public. Engine sounds are still placeholders, some other sounds are still missing completely and there might be some other functions not work correctly too.
This first look doesn´t represent this loco dlc properly.
This was purely the version sent out by DTG, as I don't know the train in real life, can't comment on sounds. Plenty of other videos showing your splendid work here :)
I thought something like that, was just a little confused and curious how this pre-build version got out. Somebody messed with some none release builds it seems...

No. They already do 3 countries which is hard enough for them to manage.
They would need the licenses and 3rd parties. Dtg focus on the big 3 because they know it best
