You are very knowledgeable. I just recently discovered your videos and when i saw a new one i said "a new vid! I gotta watch it, c'mon lets goooo!!" Thanks for posting!
Simply the best prospecting on the web. Jeff and Slim inspired me, this being my second season, the first was a real bust. Here in Arizona, I spent my first year learing about rocks, and panning streams. Met an old timer, Gary Ward, out of Pine, he has several claims, and has become great friend. Got lucky because, he and some other old timers took me under their wings. Now, the second season, I am on the claims, getting the gold. A big thank you, to slim and you for helping learn me through these videos. This one great too! Safety is a big deal, it's easy to fall off a mountain or when digging to find yourself in a Mercurcy pit here in Arizona. I am a woman miner, and thought maybe you might adress the issues about retorting. Be safe, love the vidieos.
THANK YOU Mr Williams!!! I always wondered what that stuff on the wall was called and you nailed it was limonite. Now its all starting to make sense now!
It's an absolute winner J. Dubya!! I wish we had hard rock mines like that here in good ole Indiana but we don't...but we do have fine gold and I mean it's super fine...all nice and glittery...gonna go look at it again...
Good stuff Jeff. Now you need to show us some of your milling equipment and techniques. I remember a video showing some of that equipment in your back yard. So come on.... Let's see!
***** Great! On another note, we haven't heard back from the feds yet but I understand it takes up to 2 months before receiving approval on a claim. The monument is good for 90 days so we should be good to go.until then. I want to get back out there and do a little digging.
your vids are always very infomative and entertaining we just love watching you and slim on your adventures cheers from mornington peninsula victoria australia
Jeff Willams you are amazing!!!! would love to see you do one of these videos here in Florida. panning on south beach lol.. SO COME ON LETS GO!!!! keep up the great work!!!
George Prislupski Sure there is amazing gold to be found in Florida. Road workers have found many buried treasure chests along the coast. Treasure is buried because it's too heavy to carry away from shipwrecks. People have found gold coins walking down the beach after dredging and storms.
I wonder how much gold was around 29 palms before it was a base. I was there for six weeks of training back in 1993 and the desert behind the base looked like this place. Great video Jeff. Semper Fi
Jeff! You remind me of myself! Ive opened up 3 old mines in the last couple of months. so far nothing to write home about, just enough to keep me going. Im 65 so I go alittle slower these days. Wish I had half your enthusiasm! Come to Bishop for Mule Days and Ill show you around the country!
This was a great video and wonderful addition to your channel. I liked the use of the index cards placed in the bags. Much better idea than keeping just the descriptions separate in a book or log and labeling bags.
You have some wild adventures Jeff and I love watching you have them. this last one though I would not have done as I am claustrophobic. digging around on the surface or panning in a stream does me just fine. got claustrophobic just watching you slide down the hole. thanks for doing things like that though. enjoy them a lot.
Lorie Franceschi Then you would not like it down there and some of the stopes can get very tight. Always our pleasure and thanks for watching them. Jeff and Slim
Wow, what an incredible gold mine. Thanks for the insights. A wonderful education for me. The area sure does not look like the Steamboat Springs, CO area (the latitude and longitude coordinates shown) so I guess you are hiding the exact location ....... good idea. Thanks Jeff. Keep these high quality videos coming.
Jeff you guys produce the best & most entertaining videos about hardrock I've seen... next time shoot more close-ups of the vein material please:) Awesome~ Thanks again!
Adam Outlaw Thanks, really glad to hear that and we did have some close up shots of the Limonite but did not want to drag out the video to long but will include it next time. Jeff and Slim
Good show Jeff . I learnt a bit more . Hey Jeff here in Australia in Victoria where I prospect there is this one place where I pan . There is gold but no black sand plenty of iron stone but no black sand . Regards Peter Shelley
Peter Shelley black sand is a combination of different mineral but you can have large rounded iron stone and no black sand , just means the minerals have not been broken down yet. Jeff and Slim
Stanley Stalvey Thanks Stanley, really glad to hear that. I told Slim that and he mumbled something back, not sure I heard him right. Thanks and stay tuned. Jeff and Slim
I like your videos please be careful in those old mine thank you for showing me how to find you gold I'm always looking forward to watching your videos
You are funny, now I want to go out there and look for gold!! Keep up the the good work on showing us how to find gold. I think you need to feed slim! Lol
If them bags had some kind of straps on them you carry them over your shoulder. Maybe carry them on your back even? Could call it a backpack maybe? It'll probably never catch on though. =) Thanks for the video fellers, excellent information as always.
Call me Jeff so we can coordinate You me and of course Slim's schedule. Or do I have to go through Slim's social secretary to do that? :-) Call me 732-8000
im headed up to an old prospect that had gold occurrence but couldn't pinpoint if the gold was in the limonite, volcanic tuff, or the pyrites in the area. 10 different assays with 4 being blank, but one with a whopping 2700$ on concentrates and this was in 1933. gold was 35$- Oz. there is a creek close by and if what i just watched can be formed due to water making a super-gene deposit. i believe the miners overlooked this very thing. gotta love OREGON
Hi Jeff, Great video. I like the sample bag innovation. You can fill that puppy up real fast. You had us on pins and needles perched precariously on the scaffolding while collecting samples and then struggling up the ladder carrying the sample bags. You are "The Man"! Hope there was enough gold in the samples to make it worth all the effort. Take care. We'll see you, pops, Slim, and hope to see Nevada Jack too, Sat. at the Meet & Greet.
***** Hi Guys, thought you might like this one. My camera girl didn't like that shot, said it was to far down but we got it. Thanks for the great comments , means a lot coming from you. That mine produced ....drum roll please........31,000 oz of Gold. Not to shabby and all of it in Limonite lenses. There is a really good story that goes with it and when we see you remind me to tell you it. Take care and see ya Sat. Jeff and Slim
Larry Cole actually yes there is a lot of History on it. The part everyone likes is that is produced 31,000 oz of Gold in a very short time. Jeff and Slim
Hey Jeff, great stuff as always. How about a video on how to stake claims and avoid claim jumping? Yeah, I already suggested that a while back... 8-) It just seems like a good topic that never gets talked about - and still seems like a Byzantine process.
Hi Jeff I'm new to your UA-cam channel...but wondered if you'd offer any wisdom about buying/working a mine in Montana? If they aren't being worked can a guy legally enter and sample? Thanks..love the videos!
I'm pretty sure this is up around lake havasu? Mojave desert for sure. I visit my grandparents there in the winter and explore a little. How do you keep the rattlesnakes out of those holes and caves?
Wow! I love gold and always enjoy watching Ask Jeff Williams dot com, but I love other minerals, too, and was very interested in the limonite and copper ores you showed at the end. Also... Was I seeing things or were those big crystals on the wall of the cave in the foreground about 8:55 minutes into the video?
+Kman Meteor once again the map you see in my hand has it all and Slim won't let me give that to anyone. No clubs own or even know of this mine and we think there is still a lot of Gold left in it. Jeff and Slim
***** I bet there is gold in there and A lot of it. I wish I knew where in the desert this mine is. Thank You Jeff. -Kyle McMullin
Hey Jeff, can you tell us what the old timers looked for that prompted them to start digging a mine. We're down around Salome, AZ looking, lots of old mines here.
Hey Jeff and Slim, I'm going to Mexico in a couple of weeks to visit. So I figured I could maybe try and find gold; I'm going to Michoacan Mexico and wanted to know if there is gold there, and if so is there a map I can see?
Hey Jeff, I believe we have some similar deposits here in Shasta County CA. But it's hard to tell from the footage in this video. Sure would be great to see more clearly what you are referring to when talking about the lenses, shoots. Also would you expect gold to generally be in those limonite deposits or is it a bit of a hit and miss? Thanks for posting all the great videos!
+Jay Wagner Thanks Jay for the comments and we plan on going back to get close up shots and talk more in depth about those replacement deposits Because of the geology of the area I know that they have traces of Gold in the sheeted veins and lenses in that area but not all Limonite is Gold bearing. Jeff and Slim
I know your index card is a sample and not real coordinates. But I was wondering what datum you use on your GPS. I always UTM WGS84, but seen you have decimal degrees and wondered if you're on NAD27 or something that mining maps usually use. Thank you
Hi, i have a question for you. Is the reddish mud substance that usually is found in gold mine a limonite too? You now, the reddish mud that become hard if is exposed to the sun......or maybe is hematite. Thanks
great video jeff as always lots of great info you need slim to get down in there to help you where has he been I guess he is letting you do all the work like always take care ps tell slim we said hi
do you ever have issues with air quality in these holes? we have a lot of old tunnels in our area but I have the fear of stale air. also love your films. I have been contemplating buying a garrett atx after seeing your review.
Smitefull Zergy yes we do and for that we bring an o2 analyzer. Those ATX pro's are very good machines and I think you will be very happy with it. Jeff and Slim
Some guy went threw out local spots with a gpz 7000 and took over 200 ounces where we have been using gpx 5000s and only finding 2g pieces if we are lucky. I am hoping the atx can find me some of that gold on the south west Australian lakes :P .(we rented the gpx5000s). found some ancient diggings I want to check out. hope I don't find any of slims relatives -.- . again thanks for your vids.
i need to find out what brand pick you use or like. i bought one that was supposed to be for mining, but it was so soft, the point flattened out in less then 3 min.
Bryan Gatermann Thanks Bryan, That is a 5W Kohree K096 LED Mining/Miner Head Light Waterproof 200Lumen. Here is the link to it. www.ledhunt.com/5w-kohree-k096-led-mining-miner-head-light-waterproof-200lumen
Can you have any success using a gold metal detector in an old gold mine or are there too many other metals present to get an accurate reading on the detector?
davidevgen no we knew about this one for some time and it was and still is a very rich Gold mine. After looking for it for a while we noticed someone didn't want anyone knowing about it so there ya go. Jeff and Slim
I guess the original miners tested those areas and found that there wasn't enough gold to make it worth their while. But Jeff is only one person, so the amount of gold per ton doesn't have to be as much to make it worth his while.
Hi Mr Jeff! When was that mine last worked? Do you know any of the history of the claim? Seems odd they would leave all the works below then blast the entrance shut. Say hi to your main "man" Slim for me!
+Steve Miller That mine was last worked in the 30s and pulled out 31,000 ounces of Gold. We know a lot about this mine and s few others in the area and have photos of when it was in production too. They shut it down mainly because of the War act ( L-208 ) and I will tell him Jeff and Slim
Some might think the revolver is for show but me I'd have bird shot loaded and I hope you do at least every other round. Got a slow rattle at night when I crouched down beside scrub brush army training in NM near White Sands. Man what a miserable feeling pitch dark playing patrols before deployment. Midway has CCI #9 shot for 45 LC and I am sure you have found some at shows in AZ. Would be good to carry ear plugs if you ever cork one off in a mine. The walls reflect/concentrate the noise. Guys have gone down for the count being foolish enough to use a bang stick under ledges or in caves so beware. As always play safe and have fun big guy.
So Jeff... how do you get these maps showing these old holes ? Can you just go there and start digging or whats the deal ? I joined the GPAA YEARS ago.. never did any mining though.. lived in Chicago and was busy raising kids .. Now I"m retired and living in Western NC... I don't think there are many old deep mines out here.. but there might be.. BTW.. love your wacky sense of humor.. .. it's annoying in a lovable way.. LOL..
Hi Wayne.....years ago I was fortunate enough to have met an "Old Timer " that later showed me the ways of how they use to mine. Over the years ,we became very god friends and he showed me places that have Gold in them that were left behind and never marked on any BLM map. Before we parted ways he gave me an old chest full of hand written maps that he had created and that he had gotten from another miner. I had the maps for a long time and started following up on them and sure enough he was right........and the rest is History. JS P.S. Glad you like the vids and if you are underground long enough you will start to sound like me. Lol
Yeah... I was in my car yesterday, with the windows open.. and out of no where.. I started yelling "So Come ON.. Let's Gooo ".. and then to make matter worse.. added on the maniacal " Hehehehe".. I may not NEED the underground influence.. LOL.. So what I hear you saying is. there really isn't any official "source' for locating old holes.. I get that.. Thanks.. and keep up the good work.. learning a lot. Thanks again.
How do you know if a vein has free mill gold and is ore worth crushing if it doesn't set off detector? Thanks. would like to see you in 29 palms at dale mining explainin the mineralization.
Conrad Octavio if you are not familiar with the areas History then you have to look for Mineralization in the host rock and then use a Jewelers loop to check for any small specs of free mill Gold. If you suspect that it might contain Free Mill Gold then crush, screen and Pan. That is why it is so important to know that area you are in first to know what the Host rock looks like and if it carried Free Mill Gold. Jeff and Slim
aj davis under the right conditions Manganese can hep precipitate Gold out of solution, so if found in the mix in zones of secondary enrichment yes it is a good sign. Jeff and Slim
woo hoo gooold! now I know why you carry that big pistol. :) Looks like hard work. but fun I m thinking. Hope your total yeld was more than what you showed.
Jeff i'm sad, I went out to test ares for gold near a river. Ended up trying an area where bedrock was exposed. I took samples from cracks in bedrock, moss and other plant life, exposed tree roots that gathered material. I even took samples from a close by creek run off. Not a spec of dust anywhere. Im tellin yuh jeff im bout ready to give up. its waiting my time and I never find anything

Nice to see Jeff using a dust mask wile digging .
great video as always jeff! could I learn all about gold or mining with a geology class, or would I have to go to a school for mining?
Thanks Tyler.....well if you go to one of my classes you could learn enough in a couple of days but go to a school and it will take a lot longer.
Oooo look at the shinny! Wow you are brave to go in there. How did you get the ladder in? Peace from the East
Bridgette Brown Thanks and it was already there from another crew that brought it in around the 1980s to high grade the Gold ore.

Can you have any success using a gold metal detector in an old gold mine or are there too many other metals present to get an accurate reading on the detector?
+alphaone101 why yes you can and we have made several videos illustrating this point too.
Jeff and Slim
Man, that looks like a lot of work. No wonder Slim looks like he does! LOL. Neat video, thanks!
***** Yes it is and don't tell Slim that, he thinks he is in great shape. (hahaha )
Jeff and Slim
me and some friends bought some picks and shovels and found a vein of gold and some magnetite.
wait a minute did you just find that gold mine out of the blue? or was it buried for the video? great video as always! :P
davidevgen no we knew about this one for some time and it was and still is a very rich Gold mine. After looking for it for a while we noticed someone didn't want anyone knowing about it so there ya go.
Jeff and Slim

try tying the bags to your belt or some kind of backpack straps. It will be a lot easier trip up when hands are free :)
Great video,,,very interesting
.
Simpler. 2 index cards both with an A . One where you picked. Corresponding one in bag.
Wow , that little entrance could be hodden with a few big rocks .👀
looks like hard work.. BUT fun too.
Steve Ramsey Yes it is and if you do this enough then no Gym membership is needed.
Jeff and Slim
Thank-you for the videos, please keep safe
Kavens World our pleasure and that is why I have Slim hand around.

I guess the original miners tested those areas and found that there wasn't enough gold to make it worth their while. But Jeff is only one person, so the amount of gold per ton doesn't have to be as much to make it worth his while.
Scott Martin yeah true. He found a decent amount of gold too. Though not sure it was enough for him to want to go back. I bet he will though!!
They shut it down mainly because of the War act ( L-208 ) and I will tell him
Jeff and Slim
Let's goo! nice vid Jeff :)
I love this show!😍
+Genesis Cano hey what do you know......so do we...
Jeff and Slim
Hi Jeff your my favorite Miner in the world.🙌🌎
Thanks me and Slim really appreciate that.
Jeff and Slim
Great video Jeff!
+Erick Davidson Thanks glad you liked it.
Jeff and Slim
love it how you find your gold keep the good work man and sent me some :-) :-)
we will do ...Thanks
So Jeff... how do you get these maps showing these old holes ?
JS
Awesome video!
Chinese desert coordinates..? Oh, you always do that to me!
MATTHEW DIEHL lol
MATTHEW DIEHL Ha ha!
MATTHEW DIEHL lol, inner Mongolia
Another great video Jeff! I think you're half gopher. LOL
Great videos Jeff
thanks.
who's mine you jumping now?! Be careful I am sure Slim knows the owner! LOL
ScubaOz yes he does.
Jeff and Slim
Very cool under ground mine Jeff
Is manganese or seeing dendrites a clue finding gold
aj davis under the right conditions Manganese can hep precipitate Gold out of solution, so if found in the mix in zones of secondary enrichment yes it is a good sign.
Jeff and Slim
Nice friend sent me some with maggnaes on the rock an some times iv found dendrites on the rock an pyite
haw far did you go in? how far can you go in a mine like that before the air is toxic?
all the way and we use 4 gas meters for that
woo hoo gooold! now I know why you carry that big pistol.
M Knight Don't give up my friend, just tell me your area and we will get you into the Gold.
Jeff and Slim
I live in Brookings Oregon on the coast 30 miles from Gold Beach. Its named for exactly that.
