    When COVID hit, we were sent home to work. I set up my office in our four seasons room which has floor to ceiling windows on three walls. I have never been happier at work. I filled it with plants and candles. I've enjoyed spring, summer, and the beginning of fall. Deer, birds, lizards, and squirrels meander by. I never want to return to brick and mortar office space again. I hope to work from home until I retire in 6 years. Thank you for sharing your garden room.

    Should I keep my foxglove starts in their pots, in the cold frame ,or plant them into the ground in the cold frame through our harsh ,unstable winter? Do I need a thermometer inside the cold frame to know when o open the lid during the late autumn / winter ? I'm afraid of frying my plants . ( I did that this early Spring .)

    • @JeriLandersofHopalongHollow
      @JeriLandersofHopalongHollow  4 роки тому

      If you are worried about the weather, keep your Foxys in the Cold frame until Spring, either in pots or in the soil. I don't use a thermometer; just use your judgement in raising the tops when it is very hot outside.

      Ann...not all teachers graduate at the head of the class.....Goldenrod is not the same as plant that throws pollen into the air and causes so many of us to feel bad. Goldenrod is not pollinated by air. It's pollinated by bees and butterflies and the pollen is not distributed by the wind. Also, Goldenrod is great for colds, coughs, allergies, and even urinary tract infections. Go out and harvest some and enjoy the gifts from nature! : > )

    The truth about Orange Pekoe tea is this: it's not flavored unless the manufacturer puts something in it. Orange refers to the House of Orange, the Dutch, more specifically: Oranje Nassau. Pekoe refers to the grading system in China. It is derived from the Chinese word "pak-ho". I refer you to page 84 of TEA, aromas an flavors around the world, by Lydia Gautier.

    I have a room like this at the back of my house. I live in an old farmhouse on 3 acres built in the 1850s in Pennsylvania. There is an addition at the back of the house which is from 1920. It is two rooms comprising a kitchen and a room like this one in the video. I've been calling it my great room but I'm going to start calling it my garden room. I have 3 antique colonial style china cabinets in it along with an antique colonial table and chair set. The room has a sink. I also have my electric stove and dishwasher in this room. I am planning on adding a wood stove in the room and a wood cookstove to the kitchen. I really like the way this room in the video is decorate with so many garden items. I am going to be adding some ceiling baskets and a farm table. I want also to add more books and little creatures. I was concentrating on antique dishes but the garden theme makes it extra cozy. Thank you so much for this video.

      @@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow Thank you for your reply. That room has a concrete floor with some old tile that needs removing and the floor needs leveling. I’ll probably paint it later. Also, just had a new roof put on that part of the house and tore out ceiling drywall so I have a vaulted ceiling and beams by default. That’s where I’ll hang baskets. Lots of work to do in that room. But I am gaining much inspiration from watching your videos. 😊 PS I am now painting my living subfloor and aging it with stain after seeing the beautiful results you achieved with stenciling and staining your floor.

    Golden Rod is my favorite wild flower. Autumn is my favorite season of the year, and I know that when golden rod starts to bloom it is the herald of cooler days and nights to snuggle up with a cup of hot tea and a good book. 🍁🍂🍁

    I loved the spider dance at the beginning! I’m really craving a homemade apple pie now! The goldenrod is blooming near me right now so it might be time to go collecting. Thanks for another enchanting visit to Hopalong Hollow!

    Wonderful to see your beautiful meadow of "weeds" when I lived in Northern VT way up by Quebec...I loved collecting fall weeds and colorful Maple leaves for arranging. I sprayed milkweed pods and the goldenrod with shiny Gold paint long stems...wow looked fabulous against my dark Spanish Oak walls. I love everything about your videos from the geese to the lazy cats to the many flowers. Thank you for bringing memories back and dreams of what life was in the cold North in Fall.
    Love your videos...everyone of them!! 💖

      I can feel my blood pressure relaxing everytime I watch your videos and feel like I am sharing a special moment with a good friend. Thank you for describing wildflowers and showing how to dry them. I also bought some store bouquets and have drying racks being filled right now. I love finding "precious weeds" that will fill my vases all through the winter months! I am having so much fun gathering and experimenting with all the beautiful bounty Fall is offering right now. You are a very talented artist and creative nature gal! I made some tea and enjoyed watching your pretty garden room come together too!

      There are several Amish and Mennonite community stores about 30 minutes from my home and I have been eyeing some of the kitchen tools, especially the apple peeler crank and the meat grinder with accessories. After watching your video, I know now I need to go get those tools! My mother used to have me run the hamburger through the meat grinder to stretch the amount of meat for our large family ....a trick her mother taught her during the Depression. Sometimes she would crush saltine crackers with rolling pin, then add those crumbs to act as a filler, so the meat went a little farther until payday. As the oldest girl, I learned a few tricks in that old country kitchen lol!

      The cracker trick sounds familiar as well as the meat grinder. I have my moms meat grinder and prefer it to my husbands modern one. I really lucked out on the apple peeler. Found one on AMish country store for over $200, but found this one on ebay for less than $30... same one!

      I'll gather anything that looks pretty and try to dry it... not everything works out, but some surprising results at times.
