A solution for heat resistant velcro attaching is to buy sew-on velcro with no adhesive and use Goop adhesive to attach it. I did this in my Prius camper and it lasted for years in the heat.
If your cameras are zip tied to your tube style roof rack and they swivel downward i would recommend popping a small self tap screw through the zip tie... and maybe it would behoove you to use a metal zip tie that have small holes to accommodate a screw with that idea as well. That would keep your camera from shifting for sure!
Great update. Still my absolute favorite van build, and great to see you back👍😊
Don't know if anyone has already mentioned using a strap of rubber underneath the zip-ties to keep it in place. This is how bells and reflectors on bikes stay in place.
Pipe insulation woud work too.
You have a rare ability to clearly explain things that are technical and often complicated. I watch every one of your videos and have learned tons. So, yes! Please keep posting!
Thank you really appreciate this!
Seven, thank you so much for doing this topic video. I was thinking about doing the "Ring" but you have changed my mind and I am so glad I saw this first before wasting my money. I would not have been able to do the "Ring" and now this is going to work so much better for me. I have not hit the road yet, still in preparation mode though. Thank you again, I really needed this. YOU SO TOTALLY ROCK. Thanks for helping me.
Please keep posting.... I NEED YOU. LOL.
Really appreciated you coming back 6-mos later. I enjoyed watching it happen, and now I'm full-time, so am really interested in how to provide a little security too. Thanks!! And it would be great to keep going if you're into it! I'm obviously not alone!
Cheers for the info; really clear and concise, and delivered with great charisma.
I'm a total newbie (collecting my van tomorrow), and haven't the skills or time to build anything 😅
However, I've been scoping out plenty of UA-cam vids to avoid as many newbie mistakes as possible! Plenty of people recommend the blinks (so I will be going down that route for sure), but you have clearly explained the WiFi practicalities better than anyone thanku, and you're right; this is surely THE most important issue to a lot of us. I am now searching (without success so far 😢) through all my old boxes for an old fone.... there's gotta be one somewhere 😂
Finally, an idea to help motivate you to make more vids, cos I totally get why you're on a low right now; you mastered a huge project, ticked all the boxes, got the t-shirt, and see no point in repeating! How about a complete change? Go back to basics; put yourself in my newbie shoes, and put together some 'idiot guides' (real basic stuff that you've long taken for granted) for beginners, utilising your experience to help the newbies (& also casual weekenders) avoid learning from mistakes. Just a thought! 🤔
There is an industrial strength Velcro that holds up to 10 lbs. available at Home Depot. Thanks for the update.
Be sure to use the 3M primer before you adhere the Velcro to your devise!!!
Seven how about a review of your build video? What works , what you don’t use or change. Great to see you are still on UA-cam.
TAKE BREAKS ! Whenever you want to❤... Better to not "burn out..."
Welcome back! And thank you for the video. Your videos help give ME motivation to keep working on my build when I lack motivation or am getting frustrated with something that’s giving me trouble!
Welcome back. Could you do a review of the high performance Starlink vs the regular? Curious if you’ve seen any noticeable improvements.
I use the blink camera system to, when it rains they are useless, I put on each camera the insta 360 protection lens on each one. They are really cheap and this video helped me remember what I was going to do but forgot.RAIN X for plastic is superb, rain just falls of the lens so you can see good quality all the time, without it you can only just make out some parts of the van.the other thing you asked for was better velcro. the answer is simple " DONT USE VELCRO" Glue some middle earth magnets to your inside roof they will stick the the metal screw on the blink camera and will never fall off even when driving and I do mean NEVER fail off. Hope this helps. Ray K UK YNWA.
I'm leaning toward wired analog hi-def cameras and a DVR but given what you've shared here leads me to look at wi-fi again. Thank you for this video.
The roof rack one that mounted with two zip ties, I would add a zip tie horizontally, the prevent the camera to slip out from it.
The interior one, i would use 3M VHB to adhere to a velcro that has no double sized tape.
or, 3D print some clip on mounts for it, mounting it outside and inside.
Keep the vids coming man! I've watched all of them and it helped me a lot in my Sprinter van build so hope that helps in finding more inspiration. Honest review videos about what worked well and what you would have done different another time really help future builders as well.
Would like to see more videos of your travels.
Seven, your videos are fantastic and please keep making them! I watch the all and I learned so much! Thank you.
I loved your build videos and re-viewing them now as I am getting ready to build out my own sprinter (2006). I think you are someone I would trust to do reviews, just like this one. Perhaps that might be something you could consider? Travel videos are ok, too, as long as they are a bit unique. Here again, I think your personality would make that easily possible.
Awesome. I just bought these because I saw your install video a few days ago and I'm happy that i just found this 6 month reveiw video and you still recommend them. Super glad I made this purchase and stoked to install them this week!😊
Awesome, want a 12 month review too 💪
You could use the "industrial" 3m velcro and use a "stitch awl" and sew by hand the loop side to the headliner. So it dose not come off
Loved the video good information 🎉I like your honesty ❤
Thanks! I've been seeing mine up today and came here looking for how to attach the exterior ones and also whether to leave them up all the time. You answered both questions!
You have been GREAT! Thank you for all your hard work. Bored? Come help us with our 80/20 in Alabama.
Glad you're back! You're a joy to watch; helpful and positive! Thank you!
OH SHIT! I have watched your series twice now in the time youve been gone.😅
I need more!
Thank you for the great content - you've inspired me to try my own mods.
This was exactly what I needed. Tyvm ❤
#NotificationSquad really do be coming in clutch… Missed ya, homie! Looking forward to any and all vids from our most precious savage. ✊🏼🔔⚡️🤙🏼
Really enjoy your videos thanks for another great one. Would like to see more but I understand the motivation thing. Glad to see you’re doing well. I’ve been looking to replace my cameras at my house, I’ll give the blinks a try.
I took my van to Park City last winter too. Last winter my wife and I stayed in the van 30+ nights below -20F and 20+ nights at 10,000+ ft elevation. Pretty much every non Mercadees part of our van needs repair or replacement after last winter. My van says Road Trek on the side of it, but by the time it goes out again it will be almost entirely custom.
Dang man I’m sorry to hear that! Probably learned a lot along that journey though, and super cool you made it through the winter. What we’re the big things that broke?
It's so nice to see you again, got a customer to the information and of course the eye candy, most what just to know your safe and having fun, its definitely an inconvenience to put your self all out on the internet so your decision is all up to you, thanks for the scoop on the security systems and good seeing you again. Lots of love. Afriend.
So apparently you've never gotten video of someone trying to break into your van, which is of course good. But if something like that ever happens, it would be cool to hear about it, what you did about it, and the end result. BTW, i guess another thing one can do is hide an AirTag or two (or similar product), on the van to track it in case it's stolen. Also: I've looked into systems that make it impossible to start the van without disabling a circuit breaker. I've heard bad stories of break-ins at trailheads, etc.
Bates hook and loop strips on Amazon. I have my Wi-Fi router attached to my dash with it
Great to see you back! Keep them coming
Thanks for the follow-up video and all the information in both Blink Videos!
Dude, We love your videos - they're awesome. The video is useful concent - I was thinking about security solutions lately but get stuck on deciding on wifi options...this was helpful. Thanks 7 - keep the videos coming.
Great update. Glad to see the van is holding up well and hope to see another video soon!
Velcro Industrial Strength Heavy Duty Stick On, which has smaller hooks and sticks much better to the head liner of your vehichle.
I overland heavy forest roads and have not had a problem
I think regular Velcro will work better because it will have smaller hooks that will attach better
FINALLY! I’m glad you’re back. Nice security system review. You need an operation, though: surgical removal of lazy bones! 😂😂😂
Geez, that was too long away from UA-cam. Hope all is well and safe. Cheers.
Thanks for another great video! We will be putting a few of these cameras into our custom RV build.
Dude, please do more videos! I love watching these
♥️I LOVE UR VIDEOS ♥️
Please keep making them!! Travel vids too!! Anything you put out I will watch❣️
Dude... Get back to work! Make another van. You're videos are fun and we love them! ... Oh yeah, they're super helpful too! Thanks!!
Awesome. We are very fussy about subscribing.. .we have for your channel expectations are high. Someday we will invite you over to London to build/convert a van. Keep up with great videos good man.
Great explanation of Blink. Did you post the flat installation of your Starlink? I would be interested in watching that. Thanks.
Great job on your van and security cameras. Question, do you use the blink subscription or flash drive to record?
Thanks
Holy crap. Thought you were dead dude :) I've given a "like", but won't re-subscribe unless you start posting on a regular basis again. Sorry, but I have to be practical here :) It's either something your going to do, or not. If it's "or not", then please just post one of those "I'm done" type videos and I won't have to check in every few weeks, or so, and can just write you off.
Still think your van is one of the best builds ever, but if you're not going to share your experiences of the systems with us, in a practical environment and post on a regular basis, it's like the van doesn't even exist. Which is sad.
Cheers, Sev
Pretty sure it was a personal hiatus which is now like the elephant in the room! You know…”my van got me a girlfriend”….just address it don’t leave us hanging! Two choices, technical vids or personal and technical, what to expect, just what can we expect from this channel? 😊
great video! 3M do a heavy duty Dual Lock velcro which should suit your application.
Hey, good vid. Wife and I are trying to decide on what to do about security, etc on a PM we are waiting on. Still trying to figure out exactly how this works and the USB link says for use with "Blink Sync Module 2" but you did not list that link. Do you have that/is it needed?
Hi, Velcro works well with epoxy if you need to anchor your Velcro in a stronger more permenant way.
thanks for the video! great help.
🎉 welcome back
Well you can get a mini rechargeable router TP-Link M7650 4G+ MiFi, Portable Travel Wi-Fi, SD Card Slot.
VAN looking so good!
You should just video your day to day life, I’m sure it’s pretty entertaining. ❤
Starlink has a roof flat mount!! Why not use tge strong tape/velcro on the tube on roof rack in addition to the zip ties?? Please talk about locks and why not also have a dash cam?? They have motion detection.
I noticed you do not have a flip up counter so if you add one you can also add a slider version and place your cooktop in that for a slide out set up cooktop to keep your Girlfriend happy. Set plug inside.
It says "sync module required". You never mentioned this. Do you have this? How does it work? Thanks.
Welcome back and thanks for the video. Is it easy to remove the camera from the mount, asking because I’m thinking of mounting the camera mount to the outside of my trailer with 3MVHB tape, so on travel days I can just remove the camera from the mount. Thanks again!
Thamks! Always like your videos and design ideas.
I am very skeptical on wireless cameras in cold winter climate, when it is crucial to keep your batteries warm. Any issues of cams shutting down while in Park City?
Also, that black velcro roll from Home Depot is super strong.
You didn’t address the power needed to, say, keep your Starlink running all night. Or if using a hotspot, how much data is being used each day & night to keep the cameras doing their thing?
Hello hello back!!! Alway love youyr videos. A cell phone as a hot spot would work - do I just leave it pluged in and on 24/7? Any suggestions onb mounting Cam's outside on a 2023 Ford Transit no rack? Thank you 👍👍👍👍
Hot damn. Havent seen a video in months.
Great video it definitely addresses one of my concerns. Fwiw my home system consists of Google cams in which the battery cameras aren't as good there. They don't alert to sounds for instance and their motion detection isn't as good as the wired cameras I have. Their batteries last a few weeks on a charge depending on the activity. I will look a these Blink cameras. I'm skeptical of their battery life claim and hoping they are rechargeable but really that's not a huge deal. (Also - IMHO zip ties are great for a lot of things. Permanent mounting not being one of them!)
Has, are they rechargeable?
@@dudeleboski2692 Google battery cams are rechargeable; battery life ranges from two to four weeks in my experience.
Please make more videos. I love them.
Please make a video about the high performance starlink. I'd love to know different mounting options and if you can detach it from the roof when you are parked in the shade.
Good video. Could you put a camera in nearby tree?
Keep up the great work!
Thanks for posting again. How's the acrylic windows working out as compared to glass windows of past?
3M "Dual Lock" velcro is super-strong and will last forever.
Finally!!! Thank you
How do viewers and Seven O feel about mounting external cameras with neodymium magnets? Seems like a good way to have the cameras attached when u need them and the ability to take them down when driving or not in use, or to replace batteries?
Great review. What is the view angle degree of the square outdoor camera?
Seven O, 1 question please;” Are the Lithium Batteries on the Bling rechargeable with a USB cable”?
What is the flash drive used for and where? I was looking into cameras for my van to see whats going on outside when I'm sleeping and hear a noise, and also the inside when im in the store or something and hace my dogs in there . I came across your video for the first time😊
Can those cams can be used as ad-hoc instead of infrastructure? I don't need the cameras to be on the internet but it would be to see what's going on outset without going out, like noisy people and you're not sure you are in security going out?
Great info. Thanks
I bought the Blink system following your first video.
I'm not satisfied at all.
- Batteries were all dead in less than 2 months.
- Batteries not rechargeables and only use Lithium 2A which makes this system costly.
- They don't record everytime even when sensitivity adjusted high., also it seems like there's a mandatory 10 seconds trigger time delay between each video.
- It stops recording when there's still movement and starts recording when there was already movement that needed to be recorded.
- There's no thumbnail if you only use local storage when don't pay monthly which make it difficult to find an event.
So i will go with the Eufy Security S220.
Rechargeable, solar panel included, no sync system needed.
Good update 👍
Can you view the camera feed when no cellular nor starlink available? I want to park in the boonies and still see the outside cameras from my iphone inside the van. Thanks!
Hey Seven ... so how bout a review of your Air Conditioning System? Are you pleased with it? 12 v vs. 24 v ... your water filtration system laying horizontally ... TIA, Jim
So if you’re out of WiFi range… do the cameras still record onto internal storage?
Or are they completely useless without WiFi?
How do you set it up so the camera on your roof rack gets a wide view? My Blink camera just gives me a straight view so I can't see the side of the van.
How's the signal strength through the van wall to the outdoor cameras?
Have you looked into adding a siren to send any intruders running? I couldn't find any compatible sirens for Blink. I can even find one that I can use ITTT to capture a Blink event to trigger a stand-along siren. Any thoughts?
but, you have to take them off to recharge them right?
Great review and glad to see you back! My girlfriend and I love your videos and want you to make more 🙂
Is the dish mounted permanently or do you place on the roof when parked?
Awesome info, thanks!✌️
How much data was used on average per month?
Does the motion detect go constantly when your driving?
I need to check your videos, is that a grate overtop solar?
SEVEN: 👋 HOPING the batteries truly last anywhere near 2 years, my life experience says I will be amazed if you get a full year ... HOPE I AM WRONG...
Can confirm they last that long. I have one that's been going on 3.5 years and hasn't died yet. All depends on usage
@@alexvolney My neighbor has them and says they do NOT last long !?
@LJ-jq8og like I said, it depends on usage. I have ones that's still going on the original batteries from 2020, and I had one that died just before the 2 year mark. Still, in my experience, they last quite a while.
@@alexvolney Are you able to swap out the batteries... and how long are they lasting on a single charge ?
@LJ-jq8og each camera takes 2 lithium AA batteries, so they're easily replaceable. A fresh set will last about 2 years
What cell signal booster do you have?
it records 24/7 and the battery last 2 years???
put a metal plate on teh back and use a magnet
