Has to be one of the best sounding videos I've heard in a long time. And no music to interfere with the incredible sound of the engines. That last landing P-51 at dusk with fire coming out of the exhaust was fantastic. Sounded like a string of Black Cat fireworks going off. Simply incredible. Thank you so much for not ruining this video with music. Respectfully. Max
What beautifully painted fighters you have. I liked the taking of pictures of the different stages of flight; taxing, run up, turn onto the run way, power on, just before lift off, air born , wheels up, fly by, and landing. "Great photography !"
Thanks Wilbur, I really appreciate it!! It was definitely a blast to shoot (pun intended). It's not a private airport, the museum on the field has a good relationship with the airport and its tenants and we were told we had full access as long as we were smart and safe.
FANTASTIC photography !!! This is the way it should be done.. I couldn't believe how close you were able to get to the planes. This must be a private field? THANKS for the excellant video.

OMG more closeup like this! The most beautiful video of warbirds! Greetings from Slovakia
Voodoo1650 Well, I just watched the video again lol !!! I have some really good desk speakers and a subwoofer attached to the speakers and I gotta tell ya, with the volume up to max it's just about as close to standing there with you as it can get. Such enjoyment.
Thank you for filming it non digitally. I hate the effect on the prop wash when recorded digitally. They need to work on that with a camera we all can afford . Great work . I watch it over and over again , like much of your other work. Thanks and God Bless
Speaking of TF dragsters and funny cars. I will be attending the Spring Nationals at Royal Purple Speedway in Baytown, Texas on the 29th of April. Always a great show. More eargasms than a man can stand lol.
Sorry for the late reply and thanks for the kudos on the video!! Yes this is all hand held, the camera is the Panasonic AG-AC160 with the Rode 2 external mic. The camera has great image quality but the stabilization basically sucks compared to the XL2 I used to shoot with, I end up having to run each scene through the proDAD Mercalli V2 program, it takes twice as long to edit but the end product is well worth the time.
Watched again. Just can't get enough of those backfiring engines. The only other comparable engine sound are the Top Fuel Dragsters and Funny Cars at the starting line idling. Pretty special sound there too...lol
That p-47, what a beauty! P-40s are always a favorite too. Those guys need to get some 300m.p.h. + fly byes in. You know, blowing out that built up carbon deposits. P.S. Very glad that you dumped that music before it got really bad.
In the hands of the right pilot the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was a lethal airplane. Superior to the P-51 in manueverabilty and in ruggedness, her only handicap was high altitude speed and this was due to the US Army's decision to limit turbosuperchargers in Allison V1710's in P-40's and P-39's. Only the P-38 enjoyed the turbosupercharged Allison engine, giving the P-38 Lightning high speed performance (414 nmph) at critical altitude. The P-40 had a higher drag design than that of her peers, but a cleaned-up version of her, the P-40Q, with an uprated Allison V1710 @ 1,475 bhp gave her a very respectable top speed of 422 nmph, but this P-40 variant came too late in the war to be considered for production. The P-40 was rugged, and with the Allison engine, she was able to serve in every theater of war in WW2, from scorching dessert heat, to the humid jungles of the South Pacific, and in brutally cold environments all over the world. In many ways the P-40 Warhawk was one of, if not the greatest warbird ever built, because there was virtually no job or climate she could not perform or operate in. Because of this, she helped win World War 2 by helping to destroy the enemy on every front, while bringing her pilots safely home to fight another day, despite sustaining sometimes incredible damage to both her airframe and engine. Thank you to all who flew her.
No,sorry. The p51 was better all around. What was great about the p40 was the rugged design and the lucky fact that there was enough wing area for a decent fuel or bomb payload. P39 was a good design but with all the armor and other war payload the performance was lacking at altitudes over 1000 feet. Tough in ground attack. The Russians used them well. Everything from the p38 on was the next generation of aircraft. Unfortunately Curtiss was out of the aircraft business soon after ww2. P40q was great but other designs were already being used in large numbers.
man...just cant get enough of these WWII birds...so frikn cool...these are when planes had personality...you had to FLY them..they were an extension of oneself...kinda like the way guys think of their cars..hot rods..etc....todays aircraft are so hi-tech and devoid of any personality...its the way it is unfortunately
+Spawn 1960 Yes I'm filming it digitally, the problem with a lot of HD cameras these days is that they film in a frame rate of 24 or 30 which looks very realistic but you get a choppy prop look which I don't like, I have my camera set up to 1080/60p, the 60 FPS gives the airplanes a nice prop blur.
0:07 AND THOSE SWASTIKAS SHOULD STAY ON THOSE AIRCRAFT.THOSE MEN EARNED THOSE KILLS. IF IT WASN'T FOR THOSE MEN AND THOSE AIRCRAFT THE VERDICT OF THE WAR WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT! IT IS A SYMBOL OF A MANS SKILL AND AIR DOMINANCE .

Love the razor back P-51B! Great video thanks!
Thank you to all the people who restore and keep these magnificent war birds flying! Also thanks to all the people who make and post these videos!
Outstanding photography! And the Sound !
NOTHING Sounds Better than a Merlin backfiring when the throttle is pulled back.
What beautifully painted fighters you have. I liked the taking of pictures of the different stages of flight; taxing, run up, turn onto the run way, power on, just before lift off, air born , wheels up, fly by, and landing. "Great photography !"
Best of these I have ever watched, thanks.
Beautiful, just the sound of those engines, and the great camera work.
and here I am again today. some sounds just never get old.
OMG -- I grew 2hangers down from Jon when he built his 1st 40 in Livermore -- Got the backseat ride in SUE -- Supe3r special memories THANX !!!
@@kevinclark6528 Thank you!! That show was so much fun to attend. They let me have full rein of the airport to get all these cool shots.
Awesome images. Standing next the runway for take off no less. Amazing shots. Thank you.
Very NICE, "Thanks" for sharing this with us...

Can't get enough of this video. I guess I've watched it about 20 times in the last 6 days lol. As someone on here has said, "multiple eargasms" lol
Thanks Max, I had a blast shooting the video at that event, we were given full open access to the airport and took advantage of that!!

THIS is an EPIC video! I can't believe I got to watch it for free. Thank you! :)

And if you are recording digitally , how?

+Voodoo1650 Thank you for the info . I'm still learning about digital. I'm from the film era. I even still have( and listen to) my 8 tracks.
