This particular Dino 246 GT is an extremely early “M-model” and the 26th example completed. These followed the earlier 206 GT and 246 GT/L-models of 1968-1970. They were the first examples built to finally return the Dino model line in general into a profitable program for Ferrari as the early 206 GT and 246 GT/L were quite expensive to build and never returned a profit. The “M-Models” had a very short production run from October, 1970 to June, 1971. Just nine months before the definitive “E-Model” would bring about the final changes to the Dino line up and introduce as well a “GTS version to supplement the original “GT” Berlnetta model.
There were only 357 of the composite bodied 246 GT “L-Models” built and and there were 497 of the new “M-Models” however the final variation and the most vastly produced would be the “E-Models which numbered 1,431 GT Coupes and 1,274 GTS variants for a total production of 2,705 Dino “E-Models.”
246 G. T. ★01168★ gains a celebrity owner
Geoffrey Mark Neigher (Know as Geoff Neigher) was a a prolific and highly successful Hollywood producer and writer, with one Emmy win and two nominations, best known for his television series Northern Exposure, Picket Fences and Murder One.
He started his career in 1974 as a writer for the TV show Rhoda, a spin-off of the highly successful Mary Tyler Moore show. He was later produced on no less than 14 different television series with his most active years in the 1990s and early 2000’s before mostly retiring thereafter.
He contributed regularly with discussions on his ownership and purchase with various members of the internet community on Ferrarichat.com where he was well known and highly respected having had his Dino for nearly half a century.
In June of 2023, our company had the car formally inspected prior to agreeing to a purchase. The car was in running condition but had quite a few deferred maintenance issues and was riding on 17 year old tires. Compression was checked and found to have the following results:
1 135psi
2 135psi
3 140psi
4 140psi
5 135psi
6 140psi
After completion of inspection, in July of 2023 after nearly 50 years of ownership, Geoff Neigher finally agreed to the sale of his beloved Dino. The car was purchased by our company and sent to James Millar in San Diego for full services and safety inspections. While there, various repairs were made and deferred maintenance issues brought current and all new tires were installed.
The car was given a second compression test with the following results:
1 135psi
2 135psi
3 140psi
4 140psi
5 140psi
6 150psi
A variety of issues remain with the car, which is missing a spare rim and tire, general lack of books, records and tools and cosmetics that need attention in the form of crazing and cracking of the paint throughout the car.
It is nonetheless an extremely fun car to dive without any amount of guilt and could be improved upon over time or restored fully back to its rare, original delivery configuration when it was painted new in a beautiful shade of silver-grey metallic.
Let me know if I can assist with inspections, test drives or shipping quotes.
Kind regards,
Bill Noon
