    Once again thanks very much for your help since there are so many people that want to "teach" but can't teach...lol and that is a true statement.

    Eli it is very helpful this info for lots of guys that are getting into PC repair and networking. I personally have lots of years fixing pc's but my networking skills are on the floor. I think I have ADD, so it’s kind of difficult to focus and actually comprehend the information being thrown at you.

    You will either have to console into that router by connecting a computer directly to that router using a serial cable or log into it using telnet (telnet is a command you run on the command prompt in windows). In either case you will enter the commands to setup the router through a cli (command line interface). Cisco routers are known for not using a web interface to configure it.

    Hey man i got a geek squad warranty for two years from best buys when i was buying my windows hp. and one month later my hard drive failed and i ship my computer to geek in best buy and 3 months later our computer was shipped home and i start to use it but the problem was that the wireless connection bar was not showing any networks on my area.so i want to do research, that point of time i was 12 years old and i had no experience in computer stuff , but there was nothing stating about my problem, the reason why i was doing research is because it takes long time for best buy to look for the problem inside a computer or Technology. So I opened up the computer part and found out a little wire popping out so i connected it to chip that does the network searching. so from that day i got into computer stuff and know i fix my neighbors computers for free and sometime they get mad at me for not taking money from them, a'm like a geek i fix everything. I will make a video and send it to you eli please make a video on what you think about this article. Please reply man

    In a local network, If you can’t ping a Windows computer by its host name from another Windows computer, then the cause is related to NetBIOS. Am I right?

    Is it normal to have 7 loops when tracert to google.com
    Is google.com appearing as 1hr14s21-in-fl.1e11.net[173.194.34.129] to other people.
    As I once found my ip had been changed maliciously somehow?

    • @DarylSolis
      @DarylSolis 10 років тому

      Well, you can not ping a MAC address. I guess you would just have to physically look at your network devices you have to see if that MAC address matches with one.

    if you host file on your computer is broken it will not work pinging localhost but 127.0.0.1 will always work unless the TCP stack is broken which is a driver issue or network card is dead

  • @itspheno

    Eli the Computer Guy I'm trying to ping my brothers Mac. He did a speed test and showed me his results. I have a 60Mbps, 3Mbps connection, and just wanted to see how long it takes me to send packets to his computer using Ping. Since I got the 60Mbps connection, I'm upstairs on the 3rd floor and am only getting 26Mbps, and have ordered CAT6 cable to hard wire my laptop to the router to get the full 60Mbps connection I'm paying for.. But anyways.. So basically, since I've upgraded from 15Mbps, and etc. etc. I actually have been learning or improving my understanding about networking a little better for the past 3 days.. I wanted to ping his computer, but I think I just read about online that I can't do that, because he's behind a router. etc. etc. Why am I getting request timed out when I try to see how long it takes my computer in PA, to talk to his computer in NY..? I did a tracert also on the IP address I got from his results from SpeedTest.net, which consists of 30 lines, some of them.. like 22 of the 30 lines consists of asterisk.. I'm sure when I get my CAT6 wendesday, I'm sure my connection will be very near the 60Mbps I'm paying for, and not this 26Mbps I'm currently getting, even though I'm getting 3.16Mbps UP, and a ping of 12ms when I test my connection on SpeedTest.net.. Can you help Eli..? I also know how to change the settings on the router, which all I have to do is type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar in firefox or chrome, and enter the password.. Which I haven't messed with anything in there, I only use that to reset the router if my wifi goes out or whatever.. which usually takes like 80 seconds to reboot the router.. btw, wow.. you must have a very long run of ethernet cable connected from your computer to your router, because it took 2ms to ping it.. It usually takes less than a ms to ping your router.. doesn't it..? At least that's what I gathered.. so far.. from what I've seen.
