It is really sad that so many people never heard this woman fine voice. It is a shame that young people are not exposed to music like this from various artists of the past.
Such a talent and so underrated. I heard her live in Oakland not long before she passed away. The voice was mostly gone but some of the phrasing was uniquely her own.
It doesn’t matter she was a wonderful black woman who came into this world and gave the best she had in her career. Her entire voice, range, power, etc. was amazing and truly miss. One of my type 5 favorite female of all times
I heard this as bumper music on Coast to Coast.last night I was hooked after one listening...I had to get up and look the song and artist up.... she is on par with Aretha.
I heard this as bumper music on Coast to Coast AM a few nights ago. Had to look it up. Thought it was Amy Winehouse. So gotta check out Esther's other songs now...
I heart this song on Melbourne's great PBS FM and I just had to find out who sang this song. Thanks to technology checked their website all there on the playlist, and here it is. Feel so good when I hear this must be one of the best soul songs ever. Bless you Esther and the wonderful musicians who created this song it will live forever.
Just heard this song in Spotify. I grew up listening to her because my mom would get her cigarettes and wine and play the turntable all weekend. (My dad had 8-track in the car for his music) Yep, I'm that old. As many have said, tremendously skilled vocalist. She could take any song and make it her own. Thanks for sharing the video.
mezzomanuk, do u have the Little Milton performance that was on after this? Would love to see it. Who else was on the show? Ta. Love love love this and loved her voice since first heard in the 80's, sending shivers down my spine now!

I was fortunate to see Esther twice in the 70s during her What A Difference A Day Makes era...great both times. Her Kudu/CTI albums are phenomenal.

i think that amy winehouse had learned a lot from this wonderful singer; i miss them...
Amy winehouse studied Dinah Washington that's what Esther Philips or little Esther as she was in the blues.
Amy was wonderful! Unfortunately women don’t sing like this anymore.
She is the only one who with her voice could have played in a movie billie holiday, I have no doubt❤
Ms. Phillips has a delicious velvety smooth voice
