Thank you sir. I joined the Nashville Kendo club last month and your vids have proved to be more than helpful. You should visit the N.K.C. soon. We're not too far from IN.

    Hello Kendo Guide,
Thank you for the video. I have a question. I don't know much about Kendo, but I know European martial techniques. In general, we want to protect the front of the body. What is the advantage of starting with the sword above your head? Are you trying to attack as quickly as possible?
    Thank you very much,
    Manakyn

Thank you for your comment and you're welcome, Manakyn!😀 I think European martial techniques have different stances, correct? They have their own advantages and disadvantages. I am sure we basically have the same reasons. To have our sword up high, we can save our time and energy to lift the weapon up. All we have to do is to swing it down. But it has disadvantages. The main one is just like you said. You are showing the guts to your opponent. You need to be brave to take such a stance. Thank you!

I just started to inform myself about japanese culture and swordsmanship and you produce very good and understandable videos. But I wonder if the use of the Wakizashi is also part of Kendo and if you made a video about the basic "rules" of using it as you did with this videos for the Katana? Good evening and I very much hope for reply. : )

Thank you for your kind words! We have 3 kata or forms in kendo with kodachi (or shoto) (we don't call the shorter sword wakizashi in kendo). If you can find a dojo near you, please go to a dojo. It is very important to learn from an instructor. And make sure that the dojo belong to a regional kendo federation that belongs to All US Kendo Federation. Thanks!

Hiro Imafuji Thank you for the advice. Unfortunately there is no dojo nearby but i just want to learn the basics, to prevent my limbs from being cut off and I think in this regard your channel is the one to go with. Thank's again for the reply and have a pleasant day.

maxiwmw Learning the basics is good! But it sounds like you want to use kendo to fight? Please don't. And if you see a person who has a sword, you should call the police not to fight them!

Don't worry, no intentions in this direction. I just want to be save and have the right technique when test cutting, but thanks for the concern.

Sensei, I don´t undertand with what foot we start foward. We should start with left and do the 3 steps making the back foot pass throw the foward line and put in the fowward again?.
    Sorry for my english.
    Thanks!

+zeroa6 The basic footwork in kata is to move from the front foot. When you are uchitachi taking hidari jodan, then your front foot is the left foot. So you take the first step onto the left foot. And your left foot ends as the front foot on the 3rd step. Then you execute a men strike stepping onto the back foot. If you are the shitachi taking migi jodan, then your right foot is the front foot. So you take the 1st step on to the right foot. Please let me know when you have more questions!
