I don't know how far you are able to go back and see the comments on older videos James, especially with your UA-cam channel where its at now. But I just watched this video because I want to possibly buy one of these locomotives. Most stores don't have them anymore, so my watching this video is a good example of putting your "Library of videos" to good use! good work James! keep the videos coming!Joel

A lot better looking / sounding model compared to BLIs SD9.

This locomotive is fantastic. The detail and sound are both awesome. I have one in Southern and the 2nd is on its way to me. I want to have three lashed up for my CNO&TP division mainline through freights.

I'm looking in to getting one of these, and like always, you have a review. But I was wondering, do the ditch lights have an alternating flashing pattern? That is a detail I am more concerned about now, and I was just wondering if the model had this feature. Thanks.

Hi James.. What are the chances of running Sound Units around as to hear the 5th notch Transition sound taking them up through the 8 notches? When you push "Keypad 9" you wont hear the 5th notch kick in.. I believe all of your viewers would agree with Me on this issue. Hey You're Promoting Something so people will Say.......... HEY I WANT ONE!

Here's a tip: As a fan of their podcasts, (and no other connection to them), I have to recommend TSG Multimedia's DVD's on how to set up separate number board lighting if you get locos without that function, and want to know how to do it.

Do locomotives of this quality and size usually retail for something so... pricey, in HO? Not saying it's a not good quality model, I just got a much bigger locomotive with more details and a better sound system (Loksound instead of Tsunami) with more CV's for way below it's retail and I haven't seen one of these go for that low yet either...
Sorry if I'm asking a dumb question, still relatively a newbie when it comes to HO.

+CSXGirl822 Always depends on whether its sound & dcc equipped, but different manufacturers have different prices. Broadway Limited Imports is always excellent quality, but their engines are only DCC and sound equipped, no dcc ready engines. Walthers, they can be a little overpriced, but they too are good quality. Kato is also a bit high, but again good quality. Athearn's Genesis line is decent, but they tend to be a little higher and are often very well detailed. Athearn freight cars are also really good choices. Bachmann is a bit generic in detail, but they have some good engines even if they are on the lighter-weighted side. Hope that helps, happy collecting!

CSXGirl822 Of course, always happy to help. Just one more little note, if your after steam engines like i am, be aware that they can go anywhere from $100-$600+ depending on what they are. BLI's steam engines are excellent models, but cost anywhere from $200-$600. And be careful also with brass engines, these often need professional rebuilding due to their age and can run from $100 up into the $2,000 and over range for a really rare engine. Theres a channel on youtube by the name of allbrassbackshop, if your looking at a brass engine he'd be a good one to contact to find out the cost of a rebuild.

How does the Walthers Proto 2000 series compare to the Walthers Proto (no number) series? It looks like the non-numbered series is a bit nicer, but the prices are almost identical.

    • @mr.trainiac4210
      @mr.trainiac4210 8 років тому

Proto 2000 used to be a devision of Life Like, but Walthers had bought them out. Walthers then dropped the "2000" behind Proto to make their own brand. Most of the models are still the same, so the prices are similar.

Hey, when you said Burlington Northern,...that was really cool.
You don't need to say the whole name,...BNSF, I hate Sante-Fe.
I wish Burlington Northern would have just left out the last two letters.
I like the Train-Man at the controls.
    And nice detail.

Bit surprised the packaging looks so subpar for this expensive of a loco. What they have here is at best 10 years old methods of packaging. Otherwise I love seeing options for these old Cadillacs.

For the price your paying for this locomotive you shouldn't have to add any parts...But looks like a great overall locomotive.
