Hey girly, I use to work at Amazon and a lot of times, items will be sent out like that if the item says it’s being shipped in original packaging. You have the option to “ship in amazon packaging” instead, but if you don’t select that, it will tell the person packing that item to ship it as is. Some people will realize that maybe the item should be placed in a box even if it doesn’t ask for a box, but some people don’t care and just put the shipping label right on the item. Sorry they sent it to you that way! Some people don’t have common sense

If you're still looking for some places to shop for Sanrio items (includes but definitely not exclusive to just Hello Kitty), check out Daiso, Teso (sometimes also known as Teso Life), and Miniso! I've also found some really cute Sanrio items in K-Pop stores (tricky to find, but have really cute items and plushes). Of course, Sanrio has an official site, but the items get super pricey.

Amazon Prime member here 🙋♀️. If u chose gift I think it'll give u the option of shipping in an Amazon box or the original item box. I always choose Amazon box for the fact that i don't want anyone to see what I purchased. I'm not sure if they have this option available for everything but a few times I've come across that option.
