Was playing modded once and someone had hidden their base entrance into a large pine tree.
Unfortunately for them, I was right next to it when I needed wood for a crafting table.

I'd edit the base, but only just a little. Just enough so the actual owner does a double take and wonders if they always had it set up the way it is.

Edit: since the video is gaining traction again, I'd like to include one of my more proud moments. On a server I own with a few friends, I took a stack of diamonds from them and named each individual diamond 1-64 so they can never stack.

imagine if someone just kept digging and the base owner came back to a tunnel going trough their base without anything being missing

This is where you place the stone bricks back but leave the tunnel there hidden behind it so you can slowly leech supplies.
That's the way I do it
I would just loot anything of use at that point then put it into end chest shulkers. Slowly leeching the supplies gives them the chance to move on after all unless you're taking creeper farm powder or smth.

Never take more than half of a given stack, even if you’re desperate-and never take things that there’s only one of. It’s best to only take 2 or 3 of any given thing; it’s such a small number that people generally don’t notice it.
Who’s gonna notice if they’re suddenly at 34 diamonds when they had 37? And even if they do, would they care? Maybe they just made a pickaxe and don’t remember.
The next thing would be a Negan walking out of that storage room with a rocket launcher

I would replace one block or change something that they probably won't notice unless mentioned. Maybe add a typo to one of their signs, replace the floor with a different material, or even change their dog tags to yellow. Just to confuse them.
Or I would take their diamonds and cover my tracks as best I could.

We all made those hidden vaults in servers and then didn't remember where it was
that's when you quickly leave. you turn around, fill the hole you made with stone and dirt to cover tracks, and forget about it. never turn back. you then go to the end, pick on some boxes until they give you their spare parts, come back to that same base with loads of shulker boxes. take everything and place it in an ender chest for 1 month. 1 month you do not touch the ender chest, and in fact don't have an ender chest in your home at all. after 1 month has passed where the blame game has happened and you obviously avoided all of it because it simply just wasn't you. you never stole anything, you never knew he even had a secret base. 1 month later you can slowly use the new loot without any suspicion. and that ladies and gentlemen is the perfect heist.

I always build a super mega base and hide my valuables under some random rock in the woods.
Smart. Though, if you beat the ender dragon you can get shulker boxes to store your treasure in them and put all of them inside an ender chest.
This way even a random unfortunate event couldn't make you lose the treasure.

@@Ghost36365 Well, you can also keep an ender chest with yourself or a crafting table and a bunch of ender eyes and obsidian to craft it whenever you want to get something from it. This way you don't even need to go to your base to take anything from it. You literally have to both die (if keep inventory is off, which it usually is) AND have a player break into your base and destroy the ender chest in order to lose what's in it and only untill you get another ender chest. It really is a husle, but must still be nothing in comparison to how much time you needed to get what you put in the shulker boxes from the ender chest.
Never grief the base , only look the resources and never mention it so people on the smp start questioning each other while you just sit there quietly

Honestly? It reminds me a base I had in 1.7.3 Me and my friend built a underground base in a snow biome and roughly 7k blocks away from spawn. There are no trees or caves nearby so we thought there are no reason people can find us. After a week later, when I logged in. The base was trashed, nothing valuable reminds. I didnt play multiplayer afterwards.
I'd write down the location for potential future use. You never know who might become your enemy.

I accidently stole a friends hidden base in a modded server once. One of the mods was minecolonies, a city builder mod that claims the chunks it occupies. I asked where peoples bases were and he refused to give the coordinates, because of that when I found a nice place to slap down my new city I claimed the territory of his base.

Thats why you should never build your secret base underground. In the sky would work fine since most people dont look up. Bonus points if you build it out of something that doesnt render from far away.

I would lead silverfish into the base so that they infest the stone bricks. It would be time consuming, but then anyone who goes to mine into my base will get a nasty surprise that they aren't prepared for.

For this purpose I always have a hidden treasure vault with ender chest, and my base is it y -56 so ppl can easily mine into it while strip mining

Create a split that goes under there base and set up a small stash of invisibility potions and from that secret underground base under their base you can just be there.
Then you create multiple false tunnels to said base that can push blame away from you while you still have access to it through the true entrance.
