Definately gonna put the black tusq to my black Yamaha Pacifica for soloing, the white Tusq which I also ordered also brings much more sustain and clarity to the tone here, so Ill try it out when my other Yamahas need nut replacing, THANKS for a great comparison!!! : )
I've been looking for ages to find the difference between Tusq XL, and the Black Tusq XL other than the color. Watching this they clearly sound quite different. I know the regular Tusq (non-XL) doesn't have the slippery PTFE substance, but can you mention the technical/material differences between the XL and Black XL? I preferred the first nut in the comparison by the way- it had the most open 'piano-like' sound.
hello , yeah you gotta be real careful, luckily my local small merchant guy here in Finland had two white Tusq nuts left ( non-lubricating, specs almost spot-on with my Yamahas, bought them in case the original nuts wear off...,), glad theyre not the self-lubricating type cause ive doubts about that type..., when nuts wear down one can ( if one can) shim them up and file the slots lower, but thats professional/trial n terror stuff Im willing to try with one nut once, I wish I was aye millionaire and owned a 3-d copier..., the price for a luthier to make a new nut is about 150€s, the price for a Yam Pac guitar with the nut about 200Es, I did that once and sold the guitar for half the price.......NUTS I say!, anyhoochycoochy Ive got nuts ordered! ( I really have hi hopes for the white TusQ ( not XL!) , the only bone experience Im having is with my classical 7/8 sized Cordoba, which is jazzy dark and needs no Graphtech...
UPDATE: dont like the white Graphtech nuts, the black ones give you soo much ease to bend, and a slightly darker tone, which I personally like, luckily Graphtech makes black nuts for my Yamaha Pacificas, just sand them down for taste..., and the price: 12€s: really not much for a well slotted quality nut!!!
