I tied this knot this way for many years. I was fishing back of the boat with a guy who tied his spinnerbait by stringing the line through the bait then dropped it and whirlybirded it around and whipped in this knot. I was amazed and it took me a year or two to learn what knot he had tied. I've tied this knot for years and never had a failure.
Take the tag and tie an extra hitch and tighten it. It will make the tag point to the back and lock down the SDJ knot

Isnt that the same as an improved clinch knot? It it's nice to wrap by swinging, but i think the drawback is it requires a larger tag end and so you end up cutting a good chunk of line.
Tag end pointing forward is going to gather a lot of weed.

Tie a hitch in the tag end and tighten it until it clicks...this will make the tag point to the back and won't catch crap. I do this with every knot.
@@soonerfan1675 like a sort of uni knot you mean? Sometimes a front facing tag end is useful to aid baits from slipping off but in this instance it isn't.
