This is why I think Black Knight has the best Sonic characterisation.
He doesn’t care about Hero or Villain labels, he’s doing what he believes is right, even if that makes him the villain in his opponent’s eyes.
He is only “bad” in their world’s standards.
For them, you can’t fight the king. Even if he is evil, releasing demons, tormenting his citizens, etc.
But Sonic isn’t from that world.
He is from an Earth that’s like ours. And we usually consider people who fight tyrants to be the hero.
Besides, Sonic was worthy of wielding Caliburn and Excalibur. And the Lady of the Lake considers him to be a true knight, and in Arthurian legend, she is a figure of authority on the arts of chivalry.
I guess Sonic is only bad according to law. But most superheroes are. Like Spider-Man.
Still, Sonic doesn’t really care if everyone considers him the bad guy. He does what feels right for him.

Sure, the world and its inhabitants will be eternal, but now there are underworld knights and monsters everywhere. The world is full of cursed magic.
It’s like the Blood Moon in Zelda. Except that now it applies to both people and monsters.
I have played Shadow of War, where the main character is immortal, and fights the never-ending evil of Mordor. It’s not great.

Sonic and the Black Knight song cover in 2024??? AS A DUET?!? My mind is blown this in incredible! I've always thought of this song from exclusively Sonic's perspective, I had never considered how well it also fits Merlina. And to have both of them sing the chorus at one another as if their voices will overpower one another... It's AWE INSPIRING. Thank you so much for sharing this, easily my favourite version of this song~
Fun Fact: The original song is a duet too! It’s sung by Emma Gelotte and Tinna Karlsdotter.

That's what I love about this song. It's written so it could be from Sonic's perspective or Merlina's.
The original With Me is definitely an underrated and underappreciated song, and this cover 100% does it justice.
I appreciate it mostly for two things:
1. One of the few themes sung by a female vocalist (it’s minor, but in a series dominated by male-vocalist themes, it’s a nice change of pace)
2. This song can be taken from either perspective of Merlina or Sonic.
Hearing Jehtt singing in this after all his silly Sonic videos is so amazing. You both absolutely killed it on this song! Fantastic work!

Hah. Jhett of all people... So, about a year ago, an animator (Graphy) made a ludicrously great animation for Sonic singing "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley, and soon after released an AI-altered version of the song so it properly sounded like Sonic.
I remember that, in the comments of that video, Graphy said they'd tried to find someone to collab with, but that it was hard to find someone who could manage to not just voice act like Sonic, but also SING like him. Like, for many VAs, those were two different realms entirely.
What I'm saying, who in the world would have guessed that Jhett would be the exception we were looking for? Like, godDANG, he fits well.
(Ahh, but let's not forget to credit Izzi here either. Her Merlina singing voice us also amazing out if nowhere.)
Well, about singing and dubling... Professionals standards in some time would make these two things be the expected from a VA. These days, is more common you don't have these two things together, and is alright...
But, never, ever, I would expect a Voice Acter, professional or not, to sing in Sonic voice and sound's good... Man, this right here is pure talent, one that many people don't have... Is the type of shit you put in a curriculum, don't matter the work you are trying for. Trying to became a nurse? Show this in the interview!

This has been my favorite song from Sonic canon for YEARS and is one of my favorite songs, period. I've always heard it as two things: either a back-and-forth between Merlina and Sonic, or a song that makes sense from both perspectives. Such an awesome cover, what a fuckin' treat this morning.

This is one of the best Sonic songs ever and no one talks about it as much as Open Your Heart, Live and Learn, and the Titan themes.

I absolutely love this version the two of you have done. It sounds like Merlina and Sonic are singing against each other if that makes sense. Both know they're playing the bad guy, but both have a different take on it. One is willing to bring the kingdom of Arthur's doom simply because thats the natural order, one wants to preserve it with her perverted ideology that it'd fix past mistakes.

Honestly I think I would have distributed the lines differently. Like, giving Sonic the overtly villainous lines works given his statement that he has no problem being seen as a villain, but Merlina was the one who was fighting to prevent the end of the world, so why would she be asserting it's inevitable?
I think it make sense if you’re referring to the “every world will come to end, I’ll prove it to you” lines. Can be justified as her trying to explain how the world will result without her influence to sonic who refuses to hear her out like when he says “no and I don’t want to” in response to her asking “do you not understand” just before the big fight in the game.
My memory is foggy on exact lines but I do believe after she got the scabbard, she did explain how the king and the roundtable would inevitably fall thus the kingdom too so she certainly has tried to make a point about the worlds end, the context is just laying out all the cons to sonics ideology
Obviously depends on interpretation. You could say sonic is straight up saying “every world will have an end (and thats fine)” or merlina saying it like “you know this world WILL end right? (I can change that)”
