Classic Game Room reviews Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000 for Sega 32X from 1995. Fly your space ship through bizarre isometric worlds filled with enemies that you can hop on and hack.
While this game has little to do with Zaxxon, it does feature some very cool gameplay elements, good music and some extreme creativity - even it runs less than smoothly.
Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000 review for Sega 32X for Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) features Zaxxon Motherbase 2000 gameplay on UA-cam.
"Jack it as quickly as possible"...yes sir!
Stay in school son.
+The Nostalgia Factor before watching this show
+The Nostalgia Factor I don't know....I'm not from San Diego...
Loots alot like view point on the neogeo.
+betarage Which was also on PS and Genesis. Fun game.
truxton 2 and viewpoint 64 idk
+betarage ya viewpoint got it from zaxxon
+betarage I was just thinking the same, lacks the vertical movement that defined Zaxxon along with the flight path diagonally across the screen, just like Viewpoint.
What will you do if you actually do review EVERYTHING
+AtTheGates that's the life I want
If you put your 32X into another 32X, you can play it in 64-bit. But then the world explodes.
I actually still have this game, and doom32x... Sadly, somehow, I have no idea where my Gen and 32x have vanished off too.
SNES didn't need the 32x, their superFX chip added within the actual game performed like magic. It's just impressive what they accomplished with such a limited and slower CPU. Granted their Audio and Video chips were quite superior in terms of color output and SPECIALLY audio.
The SNES GPU and enhancement chips really helped the system during 32-bit gen era.
I like the art direction a lot in this game, particularly the adorable robot guys.
This game really reminds me of View Point for the Nomad/Megadrive/Genesis, you should def review that game Mark.
I got this game and love it! Great review!
Wow. Someone from my town sent a game in. NEW JERSEY!
I had this game back in the day and loved it. Ah... memories...
Just as I was thinking about dropping my dreams for getting a 32X....you go and make this...
All your Zaxxon's Motherbase are belong to us!
32X was the biggest piece of shit Sega ever created.
Don't know how much power the 32x added to the Genesis as I can't even tell the difference other than the polygon graphics. Then again virtua racing was releases for Genesis with a extended cartridge.
I love sega but........... those grafix ................... good?.................... PUKE. leave this sh!t in the 2 dollar bargain bin where it belongs.
"Jack it as quickly as possible."
+TokyoDriving [Unzips pants] ...What?
+The Omnilution 2.0 I loled so hard.
Cool Game!! Reminds me of Viewpoint, (PS1 version is my fav) which also came to Neo Geo Genesis, and a few other platforms.
I had a 32X once, but never knew this game existed.
I knew it existed but avoided it due to bad magazine reviews back in the day. It looks really good! This is one of those games that could be amazing if the right person decides to make a homebrew hack of it.
May I suggest "Aliens April" for next month? And start with Alien for the Atari 2600!!
Best review I've seen of this title yet! Thank you Mark for pointing out the hacking element and all the different stages. I had zero interest in this game until today but now it's on my shopping list.
As much as I want the Sega CD and the 32X, they should have just pumped those resources into developing the Saturn. At the very least the CD and the 32X should have been one entire add on in itself. It would have been expensive, but being CD based it could have provided larger capacity games, CD quality music, and the 32 bit graphics with higher color palette. Or they could have just made the Saturn better.
Release it a year or two earlier than the Saturn. Or they could have created a custom video chipset of the sega cd and genesis and clock the sound Motorola 68ECk to 12.5 MHz.
That jumping onto space ship feature is rather interesting.
Y do U thank the same people at the end of every episode?
I don't know why, but this game reminds me of Starfox. Polygons, flashing or lit target areas on enemies, sometimes biological themed targets to shoot. Wait I guess I do know why!
Graphical is even identical to the sega svp chip even though the enhancement had less colors/framerates.
Mark we love you
Hell yeah 32 Bit Blast processing!
Heart pumping like a jackhammer...ya RIGHT....Marky.
If Sega Mark is fueled by Blast Processing, which Mark is fueled by beer? By the way, Zaxxon Motherbase reminds me of Viewpoint.
I know what the audio is at the end. It's Soft Otaku. He's trapped in Mark's game collection. Hey Soft Otaku, you left your Batman spotlight on on top of your house and now there's like fifty Batmen camping on your front lawn. I asked one of them to go home and he said, "Do you bleed? Buy a bandaid!"
Zaxxon, zaxxoff
Fantastic Video mate
Shame the graphics are as Jerky as you mention
It sounds like "Are you saying we should let he people in there know..." and then the music drowns the rest out.
*the
We should let the people something now.
Whatever it is, it has to be satanic.
Its a shame the 32X was never taken to its limits 3D game development was in its infancy no one really knew how to take advantage of the hardware and the few AAA developers they had signed didn't do a very good job on the games they kicked out for the system. i guess we will have to see what the homebrew game makers can do with a 32X someday...
Man, this looks cool, awesome music too.
Have you done Cosmic Spacehead before? If not I'd totally send you that game.
Star Fox with a SMRPG-like camera view
I think it was called Palace Code in Japanese or something.
Those voices on that Game Over screen gave me the heebie-jeebies.
It is like Grand Theft Auto in space.
Tom Wilson Never heard of it but checking out a review I would tend to agree with you ... looks like a game that would need an hd remake or sequel.
Tom Wilson Ok now I really need to check it out!
+Tom Wilson spacestation is one of the better games on the N64. Graphics are very blurry and basic now but the gameplay is superb.
looks really cool!
Awesome🤖
Reminds me of Star Fox on SNES.
+VinnytotheK starwing FX * :)
I'm from the United States of America yo!
why does this guy do like 50 mortal kombat 3 reviews??
bring back the ridiculously loud intro that makes us all have a heart attack
I think I saw this in an arcade many years ago, but with a different title.
i cant help but see what the genesis is rendering and what the 32X is rendering
That is neat. This game could use a remake. I would not mind to see that.
This is a game that should be on the Saturn.
the 32x was sega's attempt at getting ahead of nintendo by releasing the 32x before the saturn. they wanted to show what the genesis was capable of and give people a taste of whats to come by releasing the saturn later. saturn and 32x were literally halfs of a whole.
Kirby, isometric shmup version.
This game would have been better if they'd used sprites. The polygons look odd next to the background.
I won't disagree with you, but I have to say I kind of like it. It's charming!
Mark, the show has really improved in quality! I'm happy for you, happy to see the show go on. Maybe someday I will be able to support you through Patreon and have my name be shout out at the end. That would be... memorable.
#CGR4LIFE
drinking i thought it said Patron ...
tempo review when
Your reviews are awesome. ^^
I have to say I like the Sega Genesis
It's my favorite classic gaming console I think...but I'm not totally sure, the SNES is VERY close. The 16bit Era kicked ass!! But the N64 will always be my favorite console of all time.
+CABon8wheels you're right about that the 16 bit era did kick ass
Who doesn't?
Looks alot like Viewpoint on the Neo Geo
This is true #lowPoly
SEGA 32X
***** SEGA NOMAD 32X
Hey, Mark.
Could you use an american sega saturn to play japanese saturn games?
Tom Wilson
you mean the 4mb ram cartridge?
+Tom Wilson
Cool, thanks man. Got my eye on some Japanese games and didn't want to end up with something I wouldn't be able to play:)
looks interesting
01:06 1895? :p
Nice!
The fact that the 32X even runs a port of virtua fighter is simply amazing! When virtua fighter launched in arcades, it was mind blowing! Sadly it has not aged well.
nice
yaay! zaxxons
The game is really, but compelling. I've always liked isometric games. I beat this one a while ago.
that game looks pimp
it's not that this game pushes the 32X, it's that it's poorly coded. There are other 32X games with more polygons, better lighting and smoother framerates - Star Wars Arcade, Shadow Squadron and Darxide are all examples of games which do a lot more with the hardware and do it better.
this game always felt like sega's poor man's answer to star fox to me. hell even lots of the enemies are blatant ripoffs of arwings. still a cool little game, though star fox is way better - and didn't need a 32x to be better. (;
Still better than Knuckles Chaotix.
It looks like a budget version of the original Starfox.
Great videos on new MK3 CGR is great
Good works sir- Could you do a reaction to this vid plz.
Marshmallow Man Reacts to GHOSTBUSTERS Trailer
Mark must be pretty close to reviewing all the 32X games right? I mean there's only about 30-ish games for it...
SNES is what Genesisn't.
+jtomally9681 I disagree.
thepirategamerboy12
I do that joking around. I do like Sega, but I like Nintendo way more.
Remaster 🤗
its 1995 game. is it really? IS IT??
"Its not a great game... but.... its unique game" Yes, its very special!
*puts on some 88 nes shooter with better graphics and speed*
Too bad the 32X gets so much hate, it actually would have been amazing if sega got on board and pushed their system 2, and x board arcade hardware on this, like the initial afterburner, and space harrier ports. We could have seen Galaxy Force 2, Power Drift, and many many other classics. a collection of greats like shinobi, shadowdancer, alienstorm, moonwalker, revenge of death adder etc would have been sweet. A total missed oportunity by sega
Yeah, totally. Sadly to this day there isn't a faithful console port of Turbo Outrun. 32X would have been very capable. Guess resources at Sega were spread too thinly back in the day.
PS Vita!
lol i like how he mocks " blast processing "
Interesting idea to hack the enemies
looks like a very bad starwing rip off lol
