If you run up a hill without getting tired it's not a hill.
Maybe you haven't tried running the right hills that surely get anyone tired, with incline over 15 degrees ))
Hills with 25+ degrees incline that are long enough are guaranteed to get any runner pretty tired
And it is called skyrunning
Boss3n ,I was born and raised near were the hill is located. We used to run up-down the hill(barefooted) without getting tired.
Lol
I ran a 8 mile hills and don't get tired
Click bait
So I have been running the same 10K circuit over Killiney Hill in Dublin for the past 2 years. Because of the high inclines and hundreds of steps I have never done it without stopping from shortness of breath. After watching this video yesterday not only did I do it without gassing once I did it 1.5 times. Thank you so much for this video ....who knows where's next!!
How on earth could you do the same circuit for two years and still be stopping from shortness of breath ?
@amblincork once a year
So 7.5 years later, it’s my turn to say thanks for these tips. I’ll try to to put them into practice as soon as l get over my injury
No worries Eddy. Hope you're better soon mate. Paul here. I will pass it onto Will. ;)
5:32 for summary
Thank you so much for the video. I am by no means great athlete but did run 10km 2min faster today. My uphills were a lot beater and really enjoyed it!
I finished a 5000 meter race non stop thanks so much
NGB Leek this comment is so old even mention 5k as 5000 meter
@@ndk4 hahHahHah
Excellent tips, easy to understand, good demonstration.
Watched the video, tried the theory on a steep hill, it works - simple really. Jelly legs!
Probably the most informative video I've seen. Everyone just talk too much without really getting anywhere. Thanks again for this awesome explanation.
No worries Josh. Hop your year is going well mate.
Great tips, thanks Will
Maintaining the tall posture also works in climbing hills while skate skiing. If you bend at the waist and try to power up the hill, you fatigue easily. By keeping your legs under your hips you get more pop from the legs, as you climb and don’t fatigue as easily.
thanks for the info, very valuable.
I like it. Thank you for simple tips and analysis. I have been learnings ChiRunning and studying other masters and coaching analyses. I think you left off one more thing. Falling forward with a lean from the ankles. You have some forward lean and are keeping your center of mass under you as you go uphill which also helps forward (gravity has a horizontal component even as you go up). I think you’re doing it.
This worked great at provincials...Thx a ton!!
Thanks. The video would could have used some (15-30 secs) footage of you running up a slope with proper form without the slow motion.
Helps me to see how good form looks like in normal time.
Great information!!!
I'm going to try this right away!
this makes running up hills much easier
wished I saw this video earlier--- good pointers
thanks for the video and info, do you have a video on down hill running?
Please demonstrate on a real hill.
Exactly. What the fuck is wrong with this guy?
+H Perez He is look at the fence in the background
+H Perez he is on a hill but they might not be in a very hilly area, the hills around me are way steeper than this, you just have to gear down a bit more on a steep hill just the same as a car
+Mathew Kennedy , Its a right mess isn't it .
In my area that is considered flat. Maybe I should move there lol
Great demonstration on mechanics
Thanks very much
thanks for the video
Commenting to hopefully bump this up in recommended vids. This is good info! Probably he should note there is an increase in cadence with the shorter steps, and good harnessing of elastic recoil in the achilles in lieu of muscular force. I think of it as nibbling your way up a steep hill vs trying to takes big bites. Keep the cadence up and keep the breathing / effort below threshold for those long ones.
Cheers NoVA Gaski. Have a good week
will give it a shot saturday..
put English subtitles on videos. your videos are great.
super good! ❤
How do you pull your head up... concentric or eccentric contraction of the muscle attached the God's right hand perhaps?
Thanks
Don't complicate running. It should be the simplest form of exercise. Just shorten your stride (aka Increased Cadence) on uphill and try to breath in through the nose and breath out through the mouth, you will gasp for air but that's the whole point of training on hill. If you don't want to feel tired then you are not challenging your body and in my opinion that's not considered as hill.
Thanks man. :))
How would this be any different from jogging on a flat? Wouldn't the same mechanics be idea for either?
Does the second option result in the same speed
Any idea applying this methods to uphill biking?
How long did it take you to run up the hill left vs right example? Of course if you slow down it'll be easier to go up a hill.
Eccentric contractions are why we feel the burn after lifting weights. We're lengthening the muscle while still maintaining a load on it. It's during the eccentric contraction that a muscle tears. So...
hi,man,What software do you use for video processing?
i will try this
Topalović laki did you try it
From doing cross country the hills are steeper and not this gradual maybe one or two but I feel like you could have said fix the form and take shorter steps as well as keep your back straight and when you fun uphill you want to he on the balls of your feet and have a super slight lean up hill
I felt a lot slower with this technique but less tired at the top. Maybe my steps were too mini
It is called physics. No way you are going to go same speed and not get tired!
How do you "pull" your head toward the sky...with the hand of god? There aren't any muscles above the head to pull it up ir am I missing something...? Cheers
hi, nice vid...how about on stairs running (ei; towerton event), any tips?
Honest question: though I can understand using the proper form to avoid injury is most important.. If I'm not working my muscles much, and keeping the relaxed instead, am I getting a significant enough workout?
thats what im thinking
Good question. I'd imagine you're expected to strengthen and get the good workout by powering up the hill faster, or more times, or hitting bigger hills, or by decreasing the recovery time between workouts.
+Valery Rivas if you want to be strong enough for faster/longer runs, you have to do those faster/longer runs, too. tempo runs, intervals, slow long runs. no need to bang it up a hill for longer than a minute though (and repeats if that's your training for the day) unless you're really advanced.
I run backwards uphill and don't get tired, thoughts ?
What if your running up an inactive volcano, it is a 400 metre ascent, please search up Stanley Tasmania-Australia...
I want to maximise my speed running up this hill, I am trying to beat the world record for running up it-3:00 on the dot, at the moment I am doing around 3:39 and I am getting better, I also want to strengthen my calf muscles because I am only 13 they have not fully developed yet, can someone please help me?
Also I feel like putting gloves on and climbing on four limbs to climb quicker, in case you are now wondering yes there is a cement path but it is so steep I want to lean in and climb on my hands as well
pRave Dropz
Alan Chong Kong Voon ?
1. That's not a hill, try a real slope.
2. What took you 6 minutes and 40 seconds to say, is a) keep your body straight, b) do short steps, c) keep knees low, d) be relaxed. Just 10 seconds of information.
3. There is endurance uphill running and there is sprinting and you ignored completely the later.
Instead of all this talking and algebra for 7 min, you can summarize it all by saying: "when you run up the hill, take shorter steps and keep your back straight."
indeed!
thats the TLDW thanks
And then people like you will be like OMG WHY IS THE VIDEO SO SHORT. Stfu man
T.y
thats good for 200 and 400 and 800 and 1500 race for sports day
Is this good to do in a race?
Did this today in 10k, it helps a lot, sort steps , pumping arms, back straight, feels like a lower gear.
Good information, but would be more helpful if demonstrated on a hill
I live a few blocks away from the 5th steepest street in America 3-4 hills with 33% incline. If someone isn't tired after that, they're a cyborg
Only the 5th!! LOL! Should have done the video your way. Decent trip from here!!
Does this contain fin blood
Thin* and he won't react. Idk why either.
do like trail runners, walk them lol
Basically short strides
Where's the hill
Every time i running up hill i should use protactor😂
come and run the hills in Ethiopia. High altitude low oxygen then you will feel it!
steep hills are bad for your knees so avoid them as you age.
if you must do hills take them slow and don't raise your knees much and let gravity move you forward.
controlled falling is your friend on hills.
Chi running then
That was half the pace tho
Arms are shit on this video...
Never pulled a calf or hammy on a hill in my life, you must have been doing it wrong LOL...
The video on the left .is not running he is jumping
good luck trying to run a 3 min km with that technique lol Theres a reason no good runners use this technique.
WTF did i just watch?
thats dumb
No thanks, the reason I run up hills IS TO GET TIRED.
