Do EXACTLY what you're currently doing. This slice of life stuff is a fantastic compliment to your more targeted advice/tips on the main channel. Far too often, the infrastructure/background of a successful garden is either taken for granted or ignored by gardeners on UA-cam, so getting to see the process that you're going through to get everything up to your standards and even your dreams for the place is just, great stuff man. I can't wait to see your glasshouse/greenhouse dream unfold! I really like the style you've been going with, it's nice to see the perfect finished product but it's a lot more encouraging to see every step of the way and how you adapt when things go wrong - it makes my own garden goals seem way more obtainable to see you putting the work in!
I'd like to hear about how much food you grow vs how much you end up having to purchase. It would be cool to include it in the blogs so we can hear about how it goes down over time. I'd also like to hear about how you manage the container gardening in such an arid area of land.
I can't wait to see the shed moved back to where it was supposed to (now that the tree is gone) - and I would also love a top to-scale view of all the property when you design places for stuff, maybe coupled with some vertical drone views... I'm big on seeing the big picture rather than just a corner as the first person view can show. Love what you're doing with the place Kevin!
I catch water from my shed roof in buckets too. 😉 Homestead is looking great Kevin!! Love the excitement in your voice. Doing all of those things is hard work but so rewarding.
It's awesome how things are coming together for your homestead! The gutters hit home though, being from central valley Cali. Barely think about them until that rare rain comes, then all the problems show themselves while I'm acting like "what is this water from the sky business, no way man!" Lol. Great job Kevin, keep on growin' and showin'. 🌱
When I was a kid on the farm., I would wake up to the sound of rain and I would jump up and run outside. id take every bucket I could find and lay them out . Then I would syphon the rain barrels that collected the gutter water and have it flowing into the well. then id grab the buckets which were often full and pour them in then I'd make sure that there was nothing left to do and I'd go in and dry off. good times.
Those makeshift rain water collections become addictive, especially if one has experienced drought... Just a reminder to always leave a stick or something like that as an escape route so that any little creatures (even birds) don't get trapped in the water containers
I dont think I ever saw the awning, but it really looks great cleaned up and re-stuccoed. I love the raised beds so much! Your excitement over straw and dirt deliveries was adorable, I smiled through the entire video.
It's incredible to see the amount of renovations and changes you're undertaking Kevin! Love seeing the improvements to your home and gardening set-up - keep up the amazing work!!!!
Been following EPIC gardening all throughout my first year of growing! I'm actually sitting on 1/3 an acre of clayish/sand soil similar to you! So, this is absolutely the perfect video series fo me!! Thank you for being a guide and mentor!
Looking good. I had 1 piece aluminum gutters installed. I then removed one downspout and used abs for my downspout to fill IBC totes for my water storage. I have 4 @ 330 gallons each. It's easily expandable and with a short fence doesn't look god awful.
Isn't it wonderful when it finally rains after a long dry time? It's one of my favourite experiences. Up North of Seattle and we had our first frost yesterday. I live in a temperate microclimate so not a surprise it didn't come sooner.
I live south of Seattle and so far, I am amazed at how mild the winter is, but I expect heavy snowfall this spring, LOL. We have such dry summers, I need a rain water collection system myself, so much rain in the winter and not enough in the summer.
You’ve been one busy guy!! Looks like you’re on track to some awesome improvements. Way to score on all that mulch!! We did the same when we moved in 2019. 4 big truckloads of downed tree mulch fell into our laps! Keep up the good work. Your dreams will come true. All those positive vibes👍🏻😉
Wow, alot of work Kevin. Definitely between you and brijette at san Diego seed co you guys have inspired me to get into gardening. Quick story, I have sold dresser that was destroyed in a massive windstorm up here in the mojave desert, it was sitting there for about 2-3 years, the frame was still intact and compartmentalized, I kept staring at it today and thought. Hey I can create a raised garden with it! 1 hour later, I had stripped off the doors, nailed the frame together because eof the damage from wind. Then filled it up with logs and fall leaves then compost on top,man it was a beautiful thing. I was going to video it and put on you tube because I thought I was the first one to do this, NOT! apparently others have done this already. Oh well, it's a great idea and something once destroyed got repurposed ,thanks again for what you do!!
I am so excited to hear your review of the subpod! I have one but am waiting for spring here in zone 7 to set it up. (I haven't composted of any kind before and this seemed like a straight forward system.)
Kevin you've come so far man! Been watching your videos for a long time and I'm so happy for you that you now have the space to do so much. I live in growing zone 3b so I have a pretty short outdoor season and its always a delight to see what you are up to. Keep up the great work!
Ah, the joys of homeownership, I say smugly from the comfort of my apartment where I only have a 4x6' patch to garden in. Oh wait… Seriously, it's great to get to see how the Epic Homestead is developing! I'd love to see an episode about the in-bed worm bin - I don't think I've seen one of those before. 🪱❤️
Lots going on there, Kevin! Right on. You probably have those moments of "Whoa! Am I crazy to do all of this?" Keep at it. It'll be wonderful to see it all come together.
I love chickens! We have 50 in our backyard in a coop we made ourselves. Yesterday we put Christmas lights up for them to keep their egg cycle normal since we live in northern Utah and their production revolves around light
I wish I was west coast so I could just do it but, you can use high quality silicone to fix that gap in your gutter. for a dowspout I suggest using a flexible 3inch hose so you can move it between water storage vessels.
The worm composting in - bed bin is cool but it takes up way too much space. I built worm towers for my raised beds out of 4 inch black PVC and it's been working like a charm. I raise red wigglers so I'm confident that I'm feeding the worms what they love to eat. Because the towers are in the center of the beds it's convenient. I either chop and drop for soil mulch or I shove it in the worm tower to improve soil fertility.

What exactly is the plan with the property? I know you've talked about having a possible market garden and a few other ideas. You should draw out the plan to give us a better idea. And how you will transform the soil.
WE have always collected rainwater for our gardens its free. Never needed to use the well. This year we had a shortage of rain so collecting was a really big deal.
Love the progression!! Really interested in the rain water collection. Living in northern Oregon, summers are dry but wanting to do collection myself for the dry spells without eye sore retainers. Thank you for all you do!
Your garden is looking really great and your veggies and such look really good but those beets are awesome. That was some really nice looking soil that was delivered to your home 🏡

@@Eugenia_Farms As someone just starting out with chickens, it's challenging but fun for me. I've grown fond of these little feathered freaks. My answer is long but these are things I wished I'd known before they came to me: Well, before you get them, you really need to educate yourself on chickens, what they can and can't eat (They are omnivores so they eat plants, animals, bugs... Will you want a rooster? There are many challenges if you do get a rooster. Don't need one for hens to lay eggs. They do it automatically. Don't recommend it if you have neighbors. They can crow like crazy. Especially young ones. They really have their own personalities. Different sounds mean different things. They cluck one way for egg laying and another when there is danger.
