  • There are around 100,000 landfills in the US, around half in low-lying coastal areas-no one knows the real number because no agency has done a comprehensive survey of these toxic sites. As sea levels rise, many of these coastal landfills threaten to poison surrounding communities.

Really good point. In some areas especially Connecticut the land is subsiding due to water extraction. This is a bigger problem right now than sea level rise

Thank you for making this film. I was unaware of just how many landfills are close to the coast and sea level. This is a truly diabolical threat to the environment world wide in the coming years.
Costal inundation is effectively locked in too. No amount of reductions in greenhouse gas emissions will prevent that from happening. So this is a threat that is going to *have* to be addressed. But I'm guessing that like so many others it won't be.

The coasts and rivers of this country are also lined with nuclear power plants. And we have seen from Fukushima that those things don't like to get wet.

This has to be the straw that will break our civlization's back. Thank you for this excellent report that shows the royal flush of stupidity we as humans have decided to play as our final hand. Imagine when Columbus came to America: an Indian tribe could be living on the bend of a river for a great length of time and if the tribe moved, no one could tell if someone had lived there after a couple of weeks. We are faced with a solvable problem that we refuse to acknowledge: we must break down all trash into its components and re-use or elimate the toxic waste to zero. The landfills are a horror story in the making; the water table must be reeking with poisonous fluids seeping in minute by minute. Alarm bells should be going off in every Ministry of the Environment across the globe. What on Earth are we doing to... the Earth?

Extremely important information, no one talking about this. Thank you. There is no going back now, can't see anyway of fixing these problems. Probably use chemicals to break it down further, then more problems Where would you put all that waste......biblical .
