    I followed the advice back in 2016 and got the 3gb (exact same Zotac) card. I've been really happy with it, for AAA games and VR.
    Up to now I have only played one or two games that have issues, and then I can just lower textures from Very High to High and all is good. I get that most people now should look at cards with more memory, considering price rises and performance/cost ratios etc. Makes a lot of sense. But anyone who picks up a 3gb card for cheap right now is still good for a good while I think.

    That’s insane! I bought my GTX 1060 FTW 3gb brand new in November 2017 from craigslist for $150. Its been a great card. Built a budget system 16gb ram, GTX1060 and i7 3770. I’ve been able to play every single game high fps 60-100fps high settings for $380 total.
    Might be time to build me a new system at the end of this year with 11 series card and Ryzen 5 processor. The first build was a budget build to see wether I liked PC gaming or not and I love it.

    6 GB owner here. I think it's the best option considering that while the processing power might be identical, games these days are so lazily optimized that having 3 GBs extra of memory can come in handy. It's also really good if you like to mod games.

    • @msnehamukherjee
      @msnehamukherjee 6 років тому +20

      Not to mention the 6GB is the better choice because of the more cuda cores. The 3GB version should be the 1060 and the 6GB should've been the 1060ti.

    • @sonicwingnut
      @sonicwingnut 6 років тому +1

      Yeah I did wonder about even older games like Skyrim when modded with ridiculous texture packs and other memory hogging things. Apparently that can't go over 4GB but that is still over 3GB so enough to cause a big performance hit on a 3GB card.

    I remember watching your videos a few years ago. I must have watched over 8 hours of your footage and advice from back then, and thank goodness. You saved me so much time, and I have no buyer's remorse after building my minimalistic budget PC. The only regret I have is not buying a 1060 6GB back then instead of getting my 970, but I assumed prices would slowly drop - HA! Thank you crypto enthusiasts, many thanks. I'm still happy with my 970, but those 3.5 gigs of VRAM will become a bottleneck soon. One thing is for sure, I'm not buying a GPU at these current prices, it's sickening. Here in South Africa we pay so much for graphics cards with just the import costs and VAT, that with this decrease in supply/increase in demand the current prices are nauseating.

      I got my hands on a rather expensive model GTX 1060 6Gbyte right after launch, that also was the time that Crypto Currency really began to rise up so...there was a tiny window of time to buy a card like these.

      @SwartFrancois 6 років тому

      Yeah, planning on building my first PC in the future. The GTX1050 here in RSA on Evetech seems equivalent to $300 and that is on the cheap. I'll have to work a lot longer to save enough for a budget PC...

    after my pc dying and upgrading everything from motherboard to gpu, I had to cheap out on the gpu because gaming wasn't as important for me.
    Got an i7 8700k, 32gb ram, z390 motherboard, samsung 860 evo m2 1tb and a gtx 1060 6gb and I am honestly shook it still runs all modern games at around 60fps on high settings 1080p
    cheaped out, but I don't feel like I am missing out yet and this gives me about a year or so to save up and replace the card in the future

    I got my 6GB EVGA 1060 SuperClocked for $289.99 and the next day the price jumped to $330. I REALLY wanted a 1070 but they were at a crazy price point. I've noticed that the 6GB's REALLY helps with some titles. I play Wildlands on Ultra and use 4.5-5.8GB's of VRAM and get 40-70fps at 2560x1080p....yes that is a wide range but the 60+fps is usually in less complex areas. I usually sit at 45-50fps but some of the jungle areas go HARD on the GPU. If the 3GB model has 4GB's I'd be less concerned. Not an easy call as my GPU choice determined my CPU choice. I wanted a Ryzen 1700 but got a 1600 instead....happy with my choice but I do plan on a 1700X or 2700 sometime soon. BTW: My 1060 SC from EVGA has pulled 135watts stock and OC'd I've seen 150watts but I had to go Ultra settings on Wildlands and find a crazy scenario for it to be sustained!

    • @bobbybobman3073

      The difference to most reviewers is a snappy Ness fell and better ram support
      Edit also where are you getting a 1600 for 150?
      Edit to the edit, also if you do more cpu tasks I think $80 to go to the 2600x, might be worth it once you account for total system cost.

      Yeah, there was an Amazon flash sale a few weeks ago for the R5 1600 for $130, after a $20 rebate. Upgrading to the 2600X wouldn't make much sense after that. But with Zen 2 7nm, next year, potentially reaching 5Ghz? Yeah, that would be very tempting to upgrade!

    • @SlickR12345
      @SlickR12345 6 років тому

      Thats not actually the analogy I'd use, but if you dig the nitty gritty of tech, try gamers nexus, once thats all common stuff try buildzoid and De8uer those are both extreme OC'ers, if you acctually want the engineered explained of tech. But Yes techdeal's does do a great job explaining the practical intricacies of pc's. The guys I listed are more of a deep dive on the hardware itself.

    Stay away from the non-SC EVGA single fan card tho, the cooling solution is very different from the SC versions and it is insufficient for anything over stock. If you live in a hot place, it will not even sustain factory clocks.

    • @MrSamadolfo
      @MrSamadolfo 6 років тому +2

      Alexei Marcovich 🙂 alot of oem coolers suck, thats why u shud keep an aftermarket arctic cooler around and swap it out

    • @ncKetsui
      @ncKetsui 6 років тому +3

      First of all, it's a non-SC GTX 1060 6gb. It goes from 35C to 85C in less than 10 minutes at a 20C ambient temperature, regardless if it's in an open bench or my case, which has 4 fans and decent air flow. It does not sustain the 1700mhz it should easily achievable by other cards. Have you actually seen the difference in the coolers going from the non SC model and the SC model? It's horrible, it's like one of those stock intel coolers from years ago.

    • @MrSamadolfo
      @MrSamadolfo 6 років тому +1

      🙂 Does your card support UnderVolting? Assuming you already put new thermal paste and cleaned the fins.... A trick is to use Afterburner and tweak it, in settings unlock the volt option, then turn on the fan profile and set it up to 100% at 70C, then look at your Core Voltage...the default oem volts is probably too high, so slide it down a bit and run a heavy game, go back to Afterburner and keep lowering the volts until the game crashes or wont even load, then slide it back up a tiny bit and test ur game, if it doesnt crash anymore then write down on a piece of paper that number of Volts, now everytime u play a game load Afterburner, plug in your undervolt, apply, Enjoy ur game, monitor gpu temps and u shud see that its lower, if u wanna run it even cooler then open up riva and put an FPS limit of say 40 fps, then play, still too hot for u then start lowering the resolution and details 😉💻

    • @MrSamadolfo
      @MrSamadolfo 6 років тому +1

      🙂 if ur a really cheap person, and u dont care about ever upgrading ur platform then 8400 is definitely the betr choice, its plug and play and its optimized for most games because intel gets first dibs on programing and programers, similar to what invidia gets, Just plz make sure u get a Z board for it, because coffeelake z boards are really cheap now. Now if u like upgrading ur cpu alot then go ryzen but u cant go cheap because its a really slooooow pathetic platform if ur using cheap generic hardware, so plz pony up the xtra cash and get all the upper tier stuff like the x cpu, expensive fast ram, expensive x board, etc otherwise your going to b running alot slower than the cheap locked 8400 vanilla rig which would be really sad and dumb 😒🐢

    So the big value question is now that the new cards are almost out do you think buying a used 1060 3gb or 6gb card off eBay is a good idea? How risky is buying a used 1060 mining card? I assume every listing is a possible mining card, no way to verify it wasn't used for mining. Seeing 3gb cards going for $100-130 and 6gb going for $150-200.

    • @alan138
      @alan138 6 років тому +1

      For what i know and im not an expert on warrantys. Is that it onlu will void the warranty if you damage the card with OC, if not and for some reason the card get a mal function they will get it. For what i know warranty is only for malfunction caused by factory issues like a bad vram chip or something like that.

    • @bobbybobman3073
      @bobbybobman3073 6 років тому +1

      If you are at all worried about the warranty being void simple don't oc... Especially a GPU... These gpus come out of the box awfully close to what they will oc to, he just oced to 2000 to try to keep the cards as close as possible.

    • @neil50
      @neil50 6 років тому

      xbone super it will not void the warranty because they can’t prove you damaged the card due to overclocking unless you up the voltage and mess the card up. By default you can’t change voltage so don’t enable it, just increase the power target and core / memory clocks.

    get the GTX 970 used, better value. Unless you go 4k, then go 1060 6gb

    • @bobbybobman3073
      @bobbybobman3073 6 років тому +3

      Kyle only if it's about $70 less than a 1060 3gig, the 4 gig 970 is actually 3.5 gig (there was a lawsuit over this) and has worse video ram compression than the 10 series meaning the card has the compute preformance very similar to a 1060 3gig and the same effective amount of v ram, that combine with buying second hand and the higher power consumption and the lack of optimization for the card realitive to the 10 series, means Id need a steep discount on it over a 1060 for it to be worth getting in my book. This whole video just showed that the 970 is effectively not going to hold up in the future as well as it does right now.

    • @Kyle-pj2vc
      @Kyle-pj2vc 6 років тому

      Alright, I'll agree that it's closer to a gtx 1060 3gb, but I still think it offers more in VRAM. The power consumption point you brought up I agree with too; however, Maxwell is still a energy efficient architecture compared to the GTX 700 series. We all know about the VRAM issue, but it doesn't make it a bad card? You bring up "lack of optimization", but the driver support is amazing. Plus, everyone always seems to ignore the overclock potential on the 970 is way more than the OC potential on the 1060. For me, it's worth paying $170 to get more GPU than the 1050ti and on par with the $250-$280 dollar GTX 1060 3gb.

    • @Kyle-pj2vc
      @Kyle-pj2vc 6 років тому

      It will hold up well for 1080p in the future, it has thus far; additionally, I can still max out triple A titles. In the past, you could get away with 4k, but the only thing that will kill this card in the future is the VRAM, and that's going to be true for the 1060 3gb as well.

    • @bobbybobman3073
      @bobbybobman3073 6 років тому

      Kyle oh yes at $170 definitely a fair price... I just haven't found any in my area of the US below $220 which for me isn't worth the savings.

    Thoughts on a 1060 3GB Founders Edition? I can get one used local for $150 Canadian (roughly $115 USD) if it's still available in 2+ weeks, or should I keep my eyes on ebay for something better for the same price? for $20 extra at $170 Canadian another possible option local is a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 470 8GB that I'm assuming was used for mining (due to the fact there's 6 available, $1000 for all 6 that would = a $20 discount for buying all in bulk). Will be replacing a ASUS Direct CU II OC GTX 780 I paid $175 Canadian for 2 years ago (November 2016).
