Hi Rob, thanks for this awesome tut. I just wanted to share a tip which I suppose you already now. @05:05 you placing cuts by eye however with knife tool in loop mode if you press shift key once when cursor on model, it locks on polygon and you can offset precise percentage from an edge in the knife options. Not always needed like in your situation but may help others.
I have work coming up and the other guy uses C4D. In one day I'm happy that I know enough to get by. Cheers - great tutorial, there is a massive lack of them on UA-cam.
At 28:15 where you cut and paste this doesn't work for me, but right-click>Split works perfectly. If I use "split" tool I didn't need to delete anything.
Hi, thanks for the share) @08:07 - @08:08 you do a move that enables you to select the center with inverted curved lines. What is that command? Im stuck there))) Thanks!
I'm stuck at 5:55... when you select the top polygons to flatten the top and turn the subdivision on, your polygons stay selected. As I try and turn the sub div on, it effects the object but there is a 'ghost blue outline of the original object with the sub div off and its like I cant select polygons on the subdied object. Any ideas how to fix it???
HI rob redman, would like to ask you the tutorial 32:13 seconds ~ 35:00 seconds ... is how to open a new project to do the handle? Then use what quickly built handle copy and paste to the original project to do the switch?
At around 2:36 I go to side view to pull it up and it just deforms everything, I have the center polygon selected. Do I have a wrong setting somewhere? Thank you. I'm very new to C4D
Hi Rob, when I'm at the chair surface and in edit mode, and select the line to draw the back, he marks the surface yellow even though I'm in edge edit mode. So I can't make a back surface. Please help me.
im stuck at 8:13, i can get the two inner extrudes but when i go to extrude it doesnt just do a circle, it kinda warps in the legs to the mid tower. pic here gyazo.com/addae0c28c39cc05818cf5da133069fa
Mashable the shortcut is great for a fast extrude but if you want full control use the extrude tool, so you can access the settings in the attributes manager. That way you can activate caps, or set a numeric value for the extrude etc.
The "subdivision surface" button has no effect on my model, even though it does show up in the top right window. Does anyone know what might be causing this?
I just spent good 20mins trying to understand why the knife tool/subdiv effect doesn't work and it turns out after enabling the subdiv I didn't put the object "layer" under the subdiv "layer" in the top right corner box visible on the screen. for others who might need this.
yeah I only just now realized you've addressed this problem in earlier comments, but I didn't check far down enough. the joys of learning a new program! thank you very much for sharing this vid though, it's amazing how much I'm getting from it :)
I had added a subdivision surface object, with the geometry as a child. I think at that point I just unchecked it to switch it off for a bit. This makes it easier to see what you are doing with the child object. Hope that helps!
multimadiyan Hi. It’s hard to know without seeing it but that sounds like you’ve accidentally flipped your normals, which makes your mesh look blue. All you need to do is select a poly, hit ‘u’ then ‘I’ followed by right click ‘flip normals’ Hope that helps.
I had this problem too - the mesh is the original object without subdivision. This only shows up when you have certain tools selected and goes away when you select a different tool, for me, choosing "Live Selection" button is a quick way to make the blue mesh go away. To make it appear, choose the Knife, or Slide tool.
At 28:15 where you cut and paste this doesn't work for me, but right-click>Split works perfectly. If I use "split" tool I didn't need to delete anything.
I love your video, but why didn't you create the materials as shown in the thumbnail? They are like 60% of what makes an object look realistic.. And I could really use some help on materials and what to look for to create realism

+Hypergraph Absolutely. Very useful technique too so thanks for sharing. I use that a lot but want to keep this series as simple as I can.
Cheers!

Subdivision isn't working for some reason. I click the button but nothing happens.
Kyle Allen Music make sure you don't have any random polygons selected. That might do the trick.
my guess is , and it worked for me, you forgot to change the amount of segments from 20 to 1, of the plane object.
@@robredman hey man...i selected whole unit but somehow my Subdivision is not working...nothing happens when I click on subdivision
THANKS ROB
I loved the explanation and the good quality of yor tutorial
Hope to see more from you.

Boyd Opran Thanks! More on the way soon.
Great tutorial on basic tools for modeling. Thanks a lot!
At 28:15 where you cut and paste this doesn't work for me, but right-click>Split works perfectly. If I use "split" tool I didn't need to delete anything.
Thanks for the great video, never thought it was that easy.
Learned a lot thanks to you .

Thanks so much!
Very useful tutorial. You help me a lot! Thanks!
+Jakub Antkowiak Great to hear. Thanks
28:14 how did you copy the faces? What is the shortcut?

6:13 ??? How do you select the segments one by one ?
Thank you, that was very helpful.
Thanks the tutorial, this is very useful and help me
We need more tutorials like this :)
Very nice sir.....
Monday i will try to make this chair, Now my office timing is off......
Hi Rob, when I'm at the chair surface and in edit mode, and select the line to draw the back, he marks the surface yellow even though I'm in edge edit mode. So I can't make a back surface. Please help me.
At minute 20.57min you can see what I mean, I just select the whole area yellow and not the edge.
learned a lot, thanks so much!
WELL dds. Great! So happy it was useful.
I would like to know how do you iluminate your scene... Can you make a tutorial about that please?
Great Tutorial, Very helpful! However, could u please add the Cinema 4d hotkeys in the subtitles?
Thanks
Very Helpful!

Make sure you hold down ctrl when pulling upwards.
@@owensvoboda thank you, i had the same problem, now i got it.
I'm more interested in this background you made
Which part of it do you want to know more about?
For example, how to create victorian styled studio like the one in vid :)
Wallpaper and Parquet, is it just pic on plane ?
yeah i also want to know more about texturing and rendering.
great tuts, thanks!
It's a set of textures on planes. I tend to use normal maps as well as colour ones, to get that fine detail.
I'll do a video on texturing soon.
Whats the difference between using the extrude tool and doing it with Ctrl button?
Mashable the shortcut is great for a fast extrude but if you want full control use the extrude tool, so you can access the settings in the attributes manager. That way you can activate caps, or set a numeric value for the extrude etc.
Thanks, appreciated.
When I put on my thing gets deformed and is not symmetrical when I put on subdivision surface!
guys i have a big question that i cant find an answer, for what are used this chairs or cinema 4d projects?
that wasn't english
awesome! !
please help ctr+drag does not do anything and same with scaling
Thank you!!
The "subdivision surface" button has no effect on my model, even though it does show up in the top right window. Does anyone know what might be causing this?
Make sure your model is a child of the subdivision surface. Hierarchy is really important for this. Check and let me know if it works.
Cheers, rob
when i am extruding it 3:20 it is empty from down
10:24 = u + ?

MissMokate Thanks for sharing. I've done that before! Or there's a hidden poly selected somewhere. Lots of head scratching.

thank you very much for sharing this vid though, it's amazing how much I'm getting from it :)
I stuck at 5:10 in that cuts :(
What's the problem you are having? My guess is that you need to have your knife tool in loop mode.
WHAT Are you doing at 5:48? Something is change that moment...
I had added a subdivision surface object, with the geometry as a child. I think at that point I just unchecked it to switch it off for a bit. This makes it easier to see what you are doing with the child object.

Hi Mr. Rob. During modelling, I get these distracting blue mesh around my object whereas your model looks clean.
