- It's been 30 years since the KTLA Morning News, and Carlos Amezcua and Barbara Beck are reminiscing about those early days when it all started. Amezcua and Beck were the original co-anchors when the show launched on July 8, 1991. The two remember the first few months of being a start-up and how some big news stories pushed their viewership. They say what really made the show popular was the chemistry and fun they had together as a team, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

I am watching this today, the day that Sam Rubin died suddenly of a heart attack. I watched your news show for years and loved the crew! When Barbara left, I actually emailed the station asking “what happened to Barbara?” and some secretary or intern responded with a snotty response of “Duh, She left!”. After Barbara left, it wasn’t the same, kinda gave me a peak at mgmt problems. Carlos Amezcua left down the road and voiced his unhappiness with mgmt.
They were very tight lipped about her departure. They will very rarely show historical clips with her in them. Obviously she did not leave on the best terms. I have other thoughts on this, but not the place or time.
same! I'm looking up the entire morning news team, to see if they have commented yet. It's been so emotional... lots of tears. Crazy. He seemed like part of the family. It would be epic if they got the entire morning news crew back for a tribute to Sam. I think that would probably be their highest ever ratings for a show, because most of the city would be watching it.

I watched you guys when you first started. I always look forward to that show, many great memories.
The camaraderie of that team we're so different from anything I've seen on TV before or since.

Barbara you are still so loved here in So Cal!! I watched from the beginning and the KTLA morning show was the best! Now I can only take just a little bit of the news. Newscasts have become too “one way” It isn’t impartial anymore! God Bless you Barbara, Carlos and the original cast!

I watched you every morning starting the morning of the Northridge earthquake. I was awake when the earthquake happened, and you were the first news I found on TV. I really liked the coverage, and stayed with you until my cable company stopped offering KTLA. You two and the crew, Jennifer, Gayle, and Mark made my mornings. This was fun.

I was there all those years ago in the Sales Department at KTLA. Those were exhilarating times. RIP Sam Rubin. Get well soon Mark Kriski!

The other day someone at work said the joke "How do you spell socks in Spanish? Eso si que es." and it reminded me of Carlos telling that joke to Barbara way back in the 90s. So of course I googled Barbara Beck and Carlos Amezcua and it brought me here. My mom had that show on every morning while getting ready for work.
I watched every morning before school and set the VHS to record it so I could watch the whole show when I came home. I'm 40 now. Love Barbara, she is missed from my screen!
I miss the two of you Barbara your laughter was infectious and Carlos would laugh because of you, I enjoyed every morning with you guys and was heart broken when you left, still watching KTLA

You guys were the best! As much as my dad loved watching the CBS Big News with Jerry Dunphy and Walter Cronkite when I was a kid, that's how much I loved tuning in every morning with you all! It's not as good a show now. You were all a very special mix. RiP, Sam Rubin. :( Just heard about his passing. Hope you all are doing well.
Those were the good days. Barbara Beck was my favorite back then.

I came after the loss of Sam, I remember watching you guys after the north ridge quake and every weekday when my parents got ready for work and I and siblings got ready for school. I do wonder what happened to Jennifer in the sky, I remember once she was on PBS promoting her Saxophone band or something. Hope she’s doing well too. It’s great to hear from both of you two.
They were great. SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE CLOWNS THAT ARE ON TODAY. Holmes, Henderson, Schwauble, and DiCarlo are pathetic.
I was living in San Diego, in 1993-1996 and only watched the KTLA Morning News. This news team of Carlos, Barbara, Mark, Sam Jennifer, Gail and Eric, just seemed to click. I personally think it was the best and most entertaining team I've enjoyed watching. I'm in the SF Bay area now, and watch the clips of the old shows for the nostalgia. I miss all of you so much.
