Especially with everything that he learned happened to him in the time skip. And Superman himself has always been human inside, he himself has said that he is always tempted by his powers.
Kingdom Come is a master class in story telling. It’s really just a great and tragic comic. I honestly love how religion is at the core of the story while not feeling preachy or out of place.

as a superman fan, i get the anger we want him to show at times, because superman has been basically screaming at humanity for a long time, trying to teach humanity by example, and humanity due to the nature of comic never truly listens to him and that is a reflection of the same dilema we face here, that we are just one man screaming into the void, no matter how morally upright and righteous we maybe, so seen this beautiful symbol of hope that is superman and have it being ignored really fills us fans with anger because we would love if superman was real. To have that assurance that there is someone watching over us and teaching us the right away rather than stumbling around in the dark putting our faith on corrupt politicians and fake prophets, but to have a geninune god-like angel teaching us to be better is something we all wish we had now, so those of us fans who fall into that despair kind of want superman to break his morals and just beat mankind into the right path by force, i get you, i feel you...but that is NOT superman, that is Lex Luthor, always has been.
I remember I was 16 first time I read this comic. I'm 40 now and this was a real trip down memory lane. I was the only kid I knew that read comics. Didn't have many friends so there was no one to tell about it but my mom Lol. This is and will always be one of my all time favorites ❤

Literally how? It’s just a bunch of nonsensical parable garbage. Why was Superman retired ? Why did everyone else retire? Why did he return? Did everyone else return because he did ? What part about “oh Superman didn’t kill us after we genocide superhumans” screams “utopia”? This series looks great from an artistic perspective but that’s it. The actual story itself makes no sense.
I absolutely loved Kingdom Come. Billy's tragic/heroic ending. Wonderwoman being a complete psycho. Batman being classic Batman. Superman...oh Superman..

This is one of the stories I read when I was younger that really got me hooked into DC comics. The past few years it is rare that we get great stories like this one in comics. I always wanted DC animation to make a two part Movie of Kingdom Come.
Loved Kingdom Come when it came out that I bought different versions of the comic for the art of Alex Ross and the overall story by Mark Waid. But Rob, why are you are messing up the part where it was Dick Grayson on the hospital bed recovering and his daughter by his side whose mother is obviously Starfire and not Superman and Wonder Woman. The utility belt with the Red Robin symbol was right beside Dick Grayson. Quality control, man. 🤣 🤣 🤣

Wow. Self professed Marvel Stan here. This is an amazing story by DC. I have disliked Superman for as long as I can remember. But this put him in a different light. This feels like the first story that's ever given me the feeling that Superman is what he's always supposedly been...which is fallible. I've just never seen it done so eloquently. Usually DC force feeds you the notion that Clark is a deeply flawed, human character. But it never seems to matter because his super persona is quite literally capable of overcoming all of his mistakes. It doesn't matter if his judgment is off, because there are rarely consequences for Superman. But this is a great reminder that good writing is far and away the most important aspect of comics. Can't believe this story made me a fan, at least in some capacity, of Superman. Bravo.

This is an amazing story. I've learned in my life that sometimes it takes for you to be at your lowest and stripped down before you can be your best self. Not everyone gets that because it is a choice; a choice to live in self-pity or put in the work, be the change that you want to see. That's what this story reminded me of. Great job, Rob. Closest I know of is Comicx, never been but my understanding is that there aren't any costumed characters waiting tables for you. However, if you're ever in NYC then you'll probably want to check out Jekyll and Hyde. It's a bit kitschy after your 4-5th time but those first couple of times are an amazing experience depending on who you talk into splitting that bill with.

Just as Clark was scaled down in power, because he would’ve crushed Shazam in any other time in DC history. Just by speed alone, Superman could defeat him before he got to the Z in Shazam. Waid just made Billy, the embodiment of Superman’s weakness to magic.
@@CorbCorbin actually your wrong in terms of speed. Shazam literally kept up and matched with Mercury and Wally West. In no universe is superman ever faster than the flash, they've stated this.
THE BEST DC STORY EVER!! The first page shows full Superman pose, and the text says, "This novel is dedicated to Christopher Reeve, who made us believe that we could ALL fly." The Son of the Bat = Damian Wayne. One more thing, if I'm son of Superman and Wonder Woman, I can fly. Why do I need the Batmobile??
I may have commented this before, but Mark Waid and Alex Ross wrote one of the most effective Christian stories ever. I read this a long time ago because of my father possessing several back-issues of DC's lineup. I will never stop weeping at the end of the story because of it being one of the best compliments and criticism of Superman as a Christ figure. The story asks, "What made Christ so inspirational?" and answers it through Norman's declaration as a man of faith. Christ (and The Last Son of Krypton) were elevated because they served as reminders of the cost of right and wrong and the wisdom of compassion. Kal-El does the same, stating that he will no longer have he and his host of angels living and, "ruling above you... but by living among you," blessing us with their gifts to be shared by all.
You honestly NEED to remaster all of your older videos because you have come so far as a UA-cam content creator and your have perfected your craft so efficiently. Rob, you missed it 😪. There used to be a DC super hero restaurant at Universal Studios Hollywood for years. Waiters dressed as the most popular DC characters took your orders and brought your food and drinks! It was glorious 🙌 😍! Sadly it is no more 😢 😞 😔.
Before this book, I was 100% a Marvel guy. I was even depressed that the Sandman and Lucifer stuff was technically in DC, and they even had Martian Manhunter briefly in an issue of Sandman. I mean, I’d read Red Son… the Elseworlds stuff was kind of interesting. But you can’t compete with Wolverine, right? Young teen me didn’t think so, anyway. And the comic book stores were where they sold D&D books, so I was around it all, even if there was so much convoluted and retconned backstory that you needed to read every issue of every series being published just to make sense of it all. Then Marvel did their Age of Apocalypse event. Every series they had… put on hold. Legion goes back to the 1960s and kills Professor X, Apocalypse comes out of hiding early, and all of time is changed. Half the bad guys are good, half the good guys are bad. Wolverine was still firmly in the middle, but Cyclops managed to burn his hand off so hard, it didn’t grow back. Which… that’s not how regeneration works, and Cyclops’ beams don’t shoot lasers or fire anyway, but whatever. What mattered was that for a full year, NOBODY knew who any of these characters were, even if they looked like characters they knew. Which means I didn’t need the encyclopedic backstory of these characters, because it was new for everyone, and there was enough exposition. I had the special gold foil cover trade paperbacks of all of it. Bought them at the same time, binged em all at once. Forever cemented Marvel in my mind as the GOAT. And there’s was Kingdom Come. Alex Ross was so bad ass, and you don’t rush that kind of greatness. Surely, his stuff would be the cover art only, like Dave McKean did all the Sandman covers, but never anything inside. But no, every page was just as good. And the story was set far enough in the future… if you knew all the characters… this was mostly their kids. And good guys had villain kids, or vice versa. So once again, the audience was introduced to people and concepts as the story went. And by the end of that book… I’d say I was still a Marvel guy, but… there was a voice in the back of my head asking, “Yeah, but what about…” Years later, someone linked me a site that just had raw scans of all the Injustice issues. But, DC is pretty good about protecting their IP, and you know the saying that if you pass someone on the street, busking… if you stop to listen, you owe them at least a buck. They were good enough to grab your attention for a couple minutes, right? So it seemed to me I should hit Amazon and order the trade paperbacks. And as soon as I figure out which single issues are in which book, I’ll get the books for Injustice 2. The stupidest part for me is that the actual comics story is WAY better than the storyline from the games. And to be fair, I really liked the animated universe they did around New 52. Mostly because I’m a Constantine fan… he also was briefly in Sandman.
Billy throwing Clark to the ground and sacrifices him to stop the bomb is probably my favorite Shazam moment of all time.
Kingdom Come really is just... One of those stories. Everybody who reads it comes away with a different interpretation, each as valid as the last.

It's the eyes for me in this comic. They draw you in in a sort of realism that makes you feel apart of the story.

Just as Clark was scaled down in power, because he would’ve crushed Shazam in any other time in DC history.
Just by speed alone, Superman could defeat him before he got to the Z in Shazam. Waid just made Billy, the embodiment of Superman’s weakness to magic.

@@CorbCorbin actually your wrong in terms of speed. Shazam literally kept up and matched with Mercury and Wally West. In no universe is superman ever faster than the flash, they've stated this.

I may have commented this before, but Mark Waid and Alex Ross wrote one of the most effective Christian stories ever. I read this a long time ago because of my father possessing several back-issues of DC's lineup. I will never stop weeping at the end of the story because of it being one of the best compliments and criticism of Superman as a Christ figure.
The story asks, "What made Christ so inspirational?" and answers it through Norman's declaration as a man of faith. Christ (and The Last Son of Krypton) were elevated because they served as reminders of the cost of right and wrong and the wisdom of compassion. Kal-El does the same, stating that he will no longer have he and his host of angels living and, "ruling above you... but by living among you," blessing us with their gifts to be shared by all.
You honestly NEED to remaster all of your older videos because you have come so far as a UA-cam content creator and your have perfected your craft so efficiently. I as well as many others would agree that we would love to hear some of the older content redone with how you do videos now. Keep up the good work Rob 👏🏾 💯
This comic book by far had one of the greatest conclusions in my opinion.
We need more stories that feel like Kingdom Come at the end. Full of hope for the future.

There is a restaurant in Cancun called Comicx. Super high class and fun place. Last time I was there, I was served by someone dressed as the Flash after being seated by Spiderman. That was 10 years ago though, so who knows now.

Rob, you missed it 😪. There used to be a DC super hero restaurant at Universal Studios Hollywood for years. Waiters dressed as the most popular DC characters took your orders and brought your food and drinks! It was glorious 🙌 😍! Sadly it is no more 😢 😞 😔.

What a journey it has been. I cannot believe this has not been made into a movie yet.
Before this book, I was 100% a Marvel guy. I was even depressed that the Sandman and Lucifer stuff was technically in DC, and they even had Martian Manhunter briefly in an issue of Sandman. I mean, I’d read Red Son… the Elseworlds stuff was kind of interesting. But you can’t compete with Wolverine, right? Young teen me didn’t think so, anyway. And the comic book stores were where they sold D&D books, so I was around it all, even if there was so much convoluted and retconned backstory that you needed to read every issue of every series being published just to make sense of it all. Then Marvel did their Age of Apocalypse event. Every series they had… put on hold. Legion goes back to the 1960s and kills Professor X, Apocalypse comes out of hiding early, and all of time is changed. Half the bad guys are good, half the good guys are bad. Wolverine was still firmly in the middle, but Cyclops managed to burn his hand off so hard, it didn’t grow back. Which… that’s not how regeneration works, and Cyclops’ beams don’t shoot lasers or fire anyway, but whatever. What mattered was that for a full year, NOBODY knew who any of these characters were, even if they looked like characters they knew. Which means I didn’t need the encyclopedic backstory of these characters, because it was new for everyone, and there was enough exposition. I had the special gold foil cover trade paperbacks of all of it. Bought them at the same time, binged em all at once. Forever cemented Marvel in my mind as the GOAT.
And there’s was Kingdom Come. Alex Ross was so bad ass, and you don’t rush that kind of greatness. Surely, his stuff would be the cover art only, like Dave McKean did all the Sandman covers, but never anything inside. But no, every page was just as good. And the story was set far enough in the future… if you knew all the characters… this was mostly their kids. And good guys had villain kids, or vice versa. So once again, the audience was introduced to people and concepts as the story went.
And by the end of that book… I’d say I was still a Marvel guy, but… there was a voice in the back of my head asking, “Yeah, but what about…”
Years later, someone linked me a site that just had raw scans of all the Injustice issues. But, DC is pretty good about protecting their IP, and you know the saying that if you pass someone on the street, busking… if you stop to listen, you owe them at least a buck. They were good enough to grab your attention for a couple minutes, right? So it seemed to me I should hit Amazon and order the trade paperbacks. And as soon as I figure out which single issues are in which book, I’ll get the books for Injustice 2. The stupidest part for me is that the actual comics story is WAY better than the storyline from the games.
And to be fair, I really liked the animated universe they did around New 52. Mostly because I’m a Constantine fan… he also was briefly in Sandman.
