      People fuss so much about striking with the edge, but carbon steel isn't gonna chip, and it sharpens back up in 2 seconds, but I know what you mean when you say that. Its just automatic. He was brutal on this knife, but that's part of what makes his content so damn good.

    1095 is a ok choice, if heat treat is good and pricepoint is critical. Sure in cpm-3v it would be even better and tougher.

    I love tracker knives. Even with the skeletonized handle I’m still going to get this for edc. I have a Beck and a Linger tracker. I intend to get a full set of Wenger trackers at some point. There are so many makers out there who make this knife. Looking at the grain structure there was a problem with the heat treat in the handle. To much grain growth. They should have tempered the tang back more to soften it. The micarta scales should have been enough to keep the softened metal from taking a set allowing for more shock to travel through the knife without chance of breaking like this. But that is the difference between a big box company and a custom knife. I’ve made several knives myself but haven’t tried to make one of these yet. Friend of mine asked me to so I will be making one in the near future. Thank you for the video. Happy Holidays.

    These companies need to Stop Skeletonizing their handles. Ka-Bar also does it on several designs. Companies say: it’s to save on the weight,... I think it’s more than likely to Save them money at Our Expense. Although I have never had a problem with my Ka-Bar knives. I would still prefer the knife tang, to be solid even though it’s a speck heavier.

    This is a heat treatment issue folks, first of all these aren’t designed for throwing. That’s the most important thing, it’s hardened the same all the way through the knife. If you’re determined to use the knife hard then at least take off the handle scales, which is pretty difficult, put the blade part in a can of water and heat the tang to a dull red and let it cool SLOWLY. Don’t get the blade edge hot, if you’re really careful you can put the edge down in a pan of water and heat the back to dull red and also let it cool slowly, heat the point a bit too, to a purplish brown. This will help prevent breaking. I’m not going to throw mine so I will just heat the tang and maybe the back carefully. Remember if your edge gets heated up past blue you’ve softened it past the point of it being a good cutting instrument. If you’re wanting to clean it off, sand off the coating and put it in boiling vinegar a few times for an hour or so and it will help prevent corrosion and look good. Personally I’d just use a throwing knife for throwing.

    the knife should have a warranty for it. Send it back to them telling them what happened. they should replace it with a new one for you. The knife should not have broken like that. Suggests the steel used is weak. This is the first time i have seen a Boker knife fail in such a significant level. so it is suggestive that Boker's manufacturer has cut corners with regard to steel quality and tempering of the actual blade. Calls into question the quality of the carbon steel used.

    • @robertgarza600
      @robertgarza600 3 роки тому +2

      It’s more than likely an issue with the heat treat. There was significant grain growth at the break point. Sure the handle was skeletonized but with proper heat treating that shouldn’t have happened.

    I think the “Dave Wenger” version is also skeletonized. It might hold up better because his version is a bit thicker I believe. He also might use better steel or at least do a better heat treatment. Boker should realize that in the Movie: “The Hunted”,... The knife gets Thrown hard. So people who purchase this knife are probably going to throw it. That’s what made this blade COOL. Boker needs to Stop Skeletonizing This Tracker Knife,... A.S.A.P. - It’s still a very cool knife & I plan on purchasing one. But I hope future production of this knife is NOT SKELETONIZED. - Anyhow Great Review. I enjoyed watching your video.

      Heat treat was bad. The grain at the break point was very large and looked like a medium corse sand. Proper heat treat on a blade would result with a very fine grain structure. The other issue is also the temper. The tang should have been tempered back more than what it was. Even with a bad heat treat if they had tempered more in the tang it wouldnt have been the fail point. Another issue could also be on how it was skeletonized. If there are any sharp corners within the removed material it wail cause a stress point. That’s why if I skeletonize a knife tang it’s several bit sizes used on the tang

    I get a kick out of these internet survival experts who totally misuse a blade until it fails and then say it is not good. Knives, any knife, is made for cutting and stabbing. Axes and hatchets are made for chopping. Throwing knives are made for throwing. I am sure most say a Jeep is a great off road vehicle. With this logic, if I drive it off a cliff I can claim its not good for offroading?
    Also, you missed your target more than you sunk it.
    P.S. I have had one of these since they came out. Mine is heavily used (for what it was designed to do) and have never had any issues. I still carry it every day
