I have an '87 GMC Sierra classic 2500. 70k original miles. Just about ready for painting. All mechanicals, body work and interior done. Runs and rides fantastic. Now figuring out best paint scheme.
I LOVE square bodies too. Thanks for this deep-dive of historical information brother. I currently drive an ‘06 GMC Sierra W/T that I inherited from my late father.😁
Hell if looks could kill, it's a 73-87 squarebody. The truck stood with America during pivotal times from Vietnam to Reagan years. Built with love and Detroit steel! Compared to pickups now that are made from recycled beer cans and baby diapers.
I love the old box Chevys! I agree that the 2-tone paint job was just so iconic with that body style! I prefer the newer front end with the stacked square headlights and the turn signals in the front bumper.
I have a '86 Scottsdale and I agree with all of your points. Great video, very well put together great info. The cushion on my C10 and I'm 5'4 and my seat is slid all the way forward and my steering wheel is at about a 60 or so degree angle and my knee hits the steering wheel whenever I get in because of the thick seat cushion. -Very comfy though. Mine has 29,187 miles on it- I got it on 1/12/24, I'm the third owner and my dad was saying how it can't be original miles.
Great video I have an 1981 camper special 454. 86000 original miles. Owned for over 20 years. Love it. Would never sell. People always ask if I would sell. I always tell them they are about number 25 on the list.
Your comments on size are totally accurate. These were just the right size. Modern half tons are too big, clutzy, not as good visibility. This generation GM pickup, and the 73 to 79 Fords are truly iconic.
My 74 C-20 Cheyenne/Longhorn package 454/400.3/4 ton 8 lug,A/C power brakes,power steering,roll up windows,Bronze/white Crome Mags,BFs /Flow Masters ,TX🇱🇷
my top 3 choices for these things 1- 67-72 #1 /// These 2 are tied for 2nd but if I had to pick I'd put the 93-95 in 2nd /// 2- square body (shown here) /// 3- GMT400 up to 95 - After 95 look too rounded inside and outside like it got fat in the wrong ways. I own a 94 k1500 burban awesome machine... 460le went out so it's getting a nv4500 5spd swap. Anyways simple, clean, proportionate looking machines. Trucks after 95 started looking way too bloated and unnecessarily aggressive especially past 10 years.
My Grandpa had one exactly like it when i was a kid. Same brown and white color. First year throttle body injection 350 in 1987. Rode like a cadillac. But it wasnt very powerful lol. It was around 200hp new. But we cruised in that thing all summer and i always got to drive 😊. He would listen to bluegrass music and drink beer while 14 year old grandson drove 😂. It was a different time back then. A good time! My dad bought a 1988 S10 new. I still have it today. Restored it to like new with original 2.5 and 5 speed stick. Its my daily driver now My first was a 1969 C10. Im looking for a 69 or 70 now to relive my high school days 😂 Anyhow...im done with modern trucks. I drive the 1988 Chevy S10 every day for its fuel economy and will be buying a C10 69 or 70...or maybe a square body...to make my full size truck when i need one. Id rather spend 25k on a good shape C10 or square and finish making it new again than spend money on a modern one. If for no other reason than they are FUN to drive! New trucks just arent fun to just drive
I have the exact same truck. Mine is an 82 Silverado HD C20 big block truck. Red and charcoal grey. My dad bought it new. It’s not in as good of shape as your friends but no different other than interior color and body color. I have a 2500 Ram Cummins and the square body will pull everything it pulls. Also an original Alabama truck. I live 50 miles north of Mobile AL 10 miles east of I-65. Mine was used for hauling a cattle trailer and pulling a boat to the Alabama river.
Bought my first square body in 2019 an 84 c10, Silverado trim, bought my second in 2022 a 91 blazer v1500 also Silverado trim. Sold the blazer may of 2023. Never selling my c10
Great Video - super informative. I just acquired my dad's 1985 C20 with 5.7L that he bought new. How do I determine if it is Heavy Duty?--is it in the VIN?
If you can find the RPO code sticker in the glove box or driver's side door jamb, one of the 3-digit codes on the list will be C6P. If the sticker is missing it's trickier. If there's no front sway bar, then it's definitely not an HD. If there is a front sway bar, it's likely an HD, but it was possible to option a non-HD with the swaybar so it's not a sure thing. Here's one document that is interesting but not super informative: www.xr793.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/1987-Chevrolet-Full-Size-Pickup.pdf and if you want a much bigger document that has all the specs and options and stuff I have it on pdf and I can email it to you, jaustinbell@gmail.com
I have a 1986 K-10 ....The fit and finish on these trucks isnt very good ....the frames are prone to crack and the Differentials are weak .....Fords of this Era are tougher trucks just better over all
1987 was the last year for the square body regular cab pickups, but just on the half ton & three quarter ton models. The one ton regular cabs on the other hand were still in production up through 1989, & same with the crew cabs, Suburbans, K5 Blazers, & Jimmys except they stayed in production up through 1991.
I have an 85 and 2 parts trucks in my yard these things are a disease and you can’t get rid of them but it’s the best kind of desease with minimal side effects of jealous friends and neighbors and salty wife
A squarebody will never go out of style. They are everything a truck should be and needs to be, Perfect.
Enjoyed this a ton, and learned a few things - thanks man!

Very nice video that defintitly deserves more attention! I own a 86 C20 and start to restore it. Greetings from Germany
Fords Twin I beam was a very comfortable ride espcially the 1/2 ton trucks .... never had an issue with how they drive
Man what a video. Very enjoyable. Should have more that 15k views. Thank you.
Thanks, enjoyed every minute of this vid.
Finished the video and totally agree with your thoughts on it I have to fix up my dads truck now !
“You don’t have to be in 2022 for a minute….that’s kinda nice” hahahaha Killed me
I LOVE THIS Takes me back to my old 3 on the tree Custom Delux.
Hell if looks could kill, it's a 73-87 squarebody. The truck stood with America during pivotal times from Vietnam to Reagan years. Built with love and Detroit steel! Compared to pickups now that are made from recycled beer cans and baby diapers.
Yes Edmond Fitzgerald iron pellets made these p/USMC Thanks Dad👍🇱🇷🍺

The dog dish hub caps are iconic and anything else looks ghetto on a 3/4 ton truck.
Great video. I have a 1979 c30 2 tone blue 350 Auto regular cab Scottsdale . Great truck . Love it .

Chef's kiss. My favorite review thus far.

Great overall explanation 👌
Not only do these things look nice they last forever if maintained, can’t say that about todays cars

Have an 84 three quarter ton with the sb 350. Thing will haul an tow anything I need it to do. Love workin in the winter with it.
Ever actuated the turn signal stalk on an early 80s chrysler product? That makes these pickup ones feel great.

Very good content 👌 keep it up
I have 2 eighties pick up trucks one is a 1982 Chevy custom Deluxe the other 1 is a 1987 Chevy Silverado
I feel like I saw this for sale in Montgomery, AL about a year or so ago.

When you got over at 19:45 the guy in the rear view mirror got mad 🤣
Beauitful truck just exactly like my dads he bought new in 1987 but his is a 4x4 ! Keep it on the road !
Thank you for the information.
Bought my first square body in 2019 an 84 c10, Silverado trim, bought my second in 2022 a 91 blazer v1500 also Silverado trim. Sold the blazer may of 2023. Never selling my c10

And also obviously if you can find the GVWR listed on the door jamb sticker or anywhere else, HD will be 8600 lb, non-HD will be somewhere below 8000.
My dad had one with 454 and he always said, 9 miles per gallon where it's loaded or empty.
I drive a low mileage barn find 86 C20 C6P as a daily driver. It is single tone Indian Bronze Metallic, with a vintage Ridge Rider Canopy.
They have heavy springs, so when you really step on it then it’s like okay here you go! and it just obliterates 16 inch tires
I love these trucks. They're awesome
What about GMT 400 C/K 1500 454 SS I’m pretty sure that didn’t have a GVWR of 8800
I have a 1986 K-10 ....The fit and finish on these trucks isnt very good ....the frames are prone to crack and the Differentials are weak .....Fords of this Era are tougher trucks just better over all
Spot on.👍🇺🇲
73 was the first modern style GM truck. 78 Was the first real modern GM Truck with car like features available.

like your style.
Reupload?
It is, yeah, I decided the sound quality on the original was too poor due to how I amplified it.
Красивый пикап. Я мало понимаю на английском языке. Если этот пикап ещё и с приводом на все 4 колеса то просто очарование!
