- In this video I am going to make a review of my new backpack Forclaz Trek 100 Easy Fit 70 L from Decathlon. I bought it just recently to replace my old backpack Forclaz Travel 500 that was not satisfying my needs anymore. I chose to buy the 70L one because the 50L in this particular model didn’t seem enough for us looking at the dimensions (it is a bit narrower and higher). Overall it is a bit bigger and can fit more than my previous backpack but I don’t plan to pack it to the fullest (normally I do not carry more than 12kg). I have tested the backpack doing several day hikes in the region and I feel like it is in many things similar to my previous backpack and so I can share my opinion about it right away.

What kind of backpack do you use?

I just came back from Himalayas ( motorcycle trip) this bag is all I was carrying…frikin monster and beautifully mounted on my bike …great experience no need to buy panniers just buy a waterproof cover for the bag from decathlon and you’re good to go

one question:
I want to buy a trekking backpack but am struggling with my decision on which one to choose.
My two choices are 1. the Forclaz Trek 100 70l and the 2. the osprey atmos ag 65.
I'm not really on a budget and could afford the osprey, but am unshure if the differences to the Forclaz (Decathlon) are worth over 100€ more when it comes to the price.
What would you choose?
Both are very nice options comparable in parameters and weight. We carried our Forclaz for at least 3 years now when backapcking and find that it is still in pretty good condition, so the quality is there. However looking at the spine, we think we prefer the Osprey one, it looks like much more ventilated and having a better ergonomic shape. If budget is not a concern we would probably go for Osprey as the spine is very important. If you can it is better to try them on yourself if you have Decathlon nearby and some hiking stores. With backpacks the same as with shoes it is almost necessary to try them on to decide.

Couldn't find the osprey one anywhere near to try it on and the price is currently as high as 230€.
Although budget isn't a big problem i don't know if the pros of osprey are worth 140€ (Decathlon backpack costs 90€).
I will maybe order the Forclaz first and if it doesn't fit nicely head to osprey.
Did you have any problems with the front zipper or other stuff on the forclaz and how is the comfort while wearing?
It seems like a good decision to start out. It is a decent pack, that is quite comfortable wearing if you don't pack it to the fullest, meaning not making it too heavy. We had absolutely no problems with the zippers nor other parts of it. The fabric just gets rubbed a bit in the places where the straps are with time.

You've really pin pointed a very important feature with this back in that it gets the load away from your back with a ridgid, lightweight but simple and easy adjustable frame system. I don't know why this company choices to use that ripple effect closed rubber foam sheeting as a backing support on their 50Lt packs, becasue as you have pointed out its quite uncomfortable to have the load pushing on ones back and basically very sweaty and tiring to carry. I hope they take notice on what your saying and leave that closed rubber backing for their smaller packs and stick with the aluminium frame and easy adjusted frame. A bit more padding in the shoulder straps wouldn't go astray either, which you'll see once you start puting on the miles a for this loaded weight of pack as they are fractionally too narrow and thin. Great review though. just what hikers need for their quest to find quality well priced equipment.
Yes, we really love this feature of a rigid frame, it is one of the best in it and why in the first place we took it. And totally agree about 50L packs and the vast majority of other ones as well, we don't understand why they make it like this. Even to this pack we would add a more ventilated maybe net like spine. They have a very nice line of MH500 backpacks that we are going to make a review on as well but unfortunately they don't make it 50L, only 40L max. Padding can be improved as well. Hopefully they will continue to expand their pack line and work on improvements as we truly think they make a good quality items without it being overpriced.
Hey man great review, thanks for putting it together. One question I'd have now that you probably used it even more is : how reliable is that main zipper in terms of durability? I never used a system like this before and am concerned it might eventually fail during a hike leaving the bag useless to old my stuff. Esp due to the fact it can also be zipped from the bottom up.
Hello, thanks so much! At first we also were concerned about the central zipper failing or opening up by itself but we have used it now for over 2 years and have never had this issue. The zipper is very solid indeed. And we have found it to be very convenient when trying to get some gear from underneath.

Awesome review Dima! very clear, on point and thorough. Also good to get some different brand reviews here on YT. I got the Osprey Tallon 33. But really just because it was heavily reviewed on youtube. Sure I like it quite a lot. It's only 33l, but the thing is I didn't want more. My back couldn't handle longer hikes if I packed more stuff, I rather scale down what I bring instead. :) It has great pockets for camera gear, snacks, phone. hiking poles (ice axe), a big center pocket, a paneled frame with a foam pattern offering large air channels/gaps. But to be honest, if you are hiking in anything other than colder temperature, I don't know how much those air channels work. My back is always soaked. probably a genetic thing. :) When I was in japan, I just gave up. 34 degrees, sun, tropical humidity. I was literally dying. xD
In comparison to your bag I envy the ease to access water bottle pouches on yours. mine has two but they are fiddly to work with and you kind of need to take your bag off. I am considering a water bladder because of this (it has support for it from an external pocket close to your back). the aluminium frame also seemed really nice, mine is more like a light weight plastic panel, it does seem sturdy though. The zipper to access the whole bag seemed like such a good thing!!! I really only have one thing against zippers, and it is that they are usually the first thing to break. But hopefully it's a quality one :) and with those 70l you can probably store a lot without packing the bag to the brim!

Thanks a lot for your feedback, friend! We heard that Osprey have quite a big variety of packs to choose from, it may be a backpack to look into next time. We always try to go as lightweight as possible but at the same time we won't ever consider ourselves true ultralight hikers we think:) Because we try to balance between just the right amount of comfort and weight which is not always an easy task.
We have found that ventilated spine works great for us and makes a lot of difference, the most important thing being the rigid frame of course that holds the proper form. It is all very personal of course and in our hottest times in Italy where the weather was similar to what you describe with high humidity - no ventilation could help:))
The water pocket we quite like as well, the only thing is that it won't hold the small half liter bottles because the holes are too big, but the bigger ones would fit perfectly.
Fortunately we didn't have any problems with zippers so far in any of the Decathlon packs nor sleeping bags. They do have nice quality.
This was our goal with this pack is to not overload it and pack it to the fullest but at the same time have the versatility to pack more food if needed on longer trails with no ability to resupply.
@@WalkingNatureWorld Well, it does seem like a really nice bag! :D And as long as they are ergonomically well suited to your body it's more about what functions you need and the amount of space. I do get why you guys need more than me. I only bring my phone and a small/lightweight combined selfiestick/tripod. Once you start adding camera gear it does take a bit more space. Especially with the chargers and everything. And I have never been on the long hikes as you have been, my longest have been one week. I have only been walking in south of Sweden, and you usually pass small towns and villages to restock every day. If I went north, I would basically need to pack for several days. My bag would probably be too small for that. :)
To be honest, when you're carrying as much as 60-80L, you shouldn't be carrying it with your back. The weight is supposed to be transferred onto your hips for your legs to carry.
Does this comfortably distribute the weight when loaded up? It looks like it would be nice to have straps at the bottom to cinch it in and lift the weight a bit higher up the pack. But maybe this is not an issue. It looks like a great pack and I'd be interested on how you've found it carries the weight.
It is a nice durable pack for the price and we wouls say it distributes the weight fine. But you still need to think how to pack the things more compact arrange them properly so that it holds the shape well. We found that it is important not to pack it to the fullest and try to distribute stuff along the back. But overall the more adjustable straps has the pack the better of course.

Hi, no, unfortunately the frame is non removable and we wash the pack using the soap water and the sponge, it is the only way to go. But it cleans nicely. For storage it would be nice to remove the frame of course.

Do you know if the zipper for the main compartment is waterproof?
Thank you. There is no special padding on it but it is not easy for the water to seep through.

Also, how strong in a real scenario is that main middle zip? My concern is that zip will bust, or get caught. I walk through areas with massive scrub/dense rainforest/bushland.

In relation to zippers, they work really well and we have found no issues with them after a year of use, they are quite durable and never failed us so far. Of course you need to be careful not to overload the backpack but otherwise it should be fine. Hope it helps.

Whats the difference between trekk 100 70L and trekk 500 air 60L ? Price is same
Tha fabric it's made of is different and the spine also. Otherwise there is no major difference trek 500Air seems to be even bigger and lighter. So it is an upgraded version os Trek100. But in Spain Trek 100 is cheaper and costs currently around 90eu compared to 125eu for the Trek 500.
I am planning on buying either this one or the 50 L one as a versatile bag to use in trekking or just walking around the city. Which one do you think is better? I pretend to carry at least 10 kg of gear inside it at all times, but I don't want to look too noticeable in the streets.
Hi, we would definitely take the 50L one especially if you want to carry it around the city as we find that the 70L one is easy to overload and pack too much stuff and it does look quite bulky when packed to the fullest. So we would go with 50L one, we ourselves are eyeing the 50L version.

Is it possible to remove the aluminium bars so I can machine wash it?
No, we don't think it is possible to remove them, we washed our backpack using the water and soap with a sponge and it worked fine.
Very good video presentation. This backpack is indeed quite rigid and durable and in Decathlon is merchandised as a backpacking type. Also for such a budget price it is hard to beat. So we did used it the last season for several of our backpacking trips, we have yet to try it on longer trips this year. We know that there are definitely more lightweight packs on the market but we found that they lack the versatility sometimes and we do need a lot of different pockets and upper department for camera and electronics storage.
Do you have any recommendations of such type more lightweight ones?
@@WalkingNatureWorld if we are talking about backpack that would fit in the budget of most simple people out there like me then I can suggest the Jan sport Katahdin $.40 and the model 50 also. If you don’t care much about price, then I would like to suggest the REI flash45 and the 65 model also, but if you don’t really care about money because you can afford everything, then I would suggest the osprey levity 45. Hi, what about the zipper in the middle of the main compartment? Will it stay intact ? Since the zipper is two way, I am wondering about the safety..
Hello, the middle zipper is quite reliable and we found no issues with it during the whole season. It is very convenient to get the things out from the bottom of the pack.
Can i use it as cabin baggage on the airplane? Have you ever used it as cabin baggage?
You have to check your airline regulations, but we personally didn't use it as such, we believe the volume should be 20L for a backpack like Quechua MH100 with which we travelled with

Привет, после двух лет использования рюкзак еще в хорошем состоянии, с молниями никаких проблем как и во всех вещах из Декатлона. И в общем только от некоторых лямок материал начал протираться в местах трения, но сама конструкция в отличном состоянии. Зависит от того какой вес вы собираетесь в нем носить, мы часто нагружали его до 15 кг, и он выдерживал отлично. Подушка внизу на поясе под спину со временем начинает сминаться и перестает быть такой мягкой.

Yes, of course, we were able to fit the MSR Elixir 2 in it.
Still happy with it?
It is quite solid and reliable. We are still using it on our summer season hikes and it held up pretty good and is in a good condition.
What is the highest and lowest back adjusting possible?
We have measured the distance between the highest shoulder adjustment and lowest at the hip belt and it is around 50-51cm from shoulder to hip belt. Hope it helps.

That's a nice quality pack if you're in search for something durable and not breaking the bank, they have several others with different volume in these series too if you need a smaller pack.
How secure is the zip at the front?
We have never had any problems with the zippers on any Quechua backpacks, they are very durable even when packing to the max.
