I bet you enjoyed that beautiful sunshine on the water anyways! Just have to keep working on 'em. You never know which tide will bring the next big push!
Swiftwater is better and u get free access in since u paid at centennial,,, I would try around since it’s all in close range moose meadows is another free spot
Ryan thanks for the awesome updates! Will be in Soldotna fishing one of the access locations you mentioned next week with the girlfriend!! Hopefully things pick up a bit! Take Care!!
Oh for sure. I plan to keep following the season with a few more updates. Id imagine were looking at a good August fishing season. Were about due for the last big push of sockeye and you may be timing it just right! So good luck and keep an eye out for those 15lb silvers coming up the river!
Thanks buddy I hope you are right! We get there Wednesday morning and have to fly back to Michigan on Saturday! That would be killer to get a silver as well!! Keep following your passion!!
Id say it's a toss up between the King and the Silver. Kings usually want to stay down when fighting. Giving you hard long pulls while keeping down in the deepest part of wherever you are fishing. Silvers tend to be the dancers. They are more acrobatic, high flying rollers that leap and bound when trying to throw a hook. Both strike aggressively and get your heart racing. Pound for pound? Thats tough, but id say a 15lb silver salmon would be a trophy catch when comparing to a 15lb King salmon. 🐟
@@alaskasmallcraftadventures I see. I guess its true after all. The general consensus seems to be that Coho, pound for pound, are the strongest fighting salmon.
The fishing is super slow. Not many anglers snagging fish. I got one today. The limit was raised to six, but few catch more than 1-2 since last Wednesday.
I do! Fishing should be awesome late August and September. Bait will be open most likely for Kenai Silver salmon which can get twice the size as sockeye! Way less crowd usually as well. The trout will be all fattened up by then too.
@@alaskasmallcraftadventures Thanks so much for the info! Would you target them same way and spots than Sockeye? Might be a good idea for a futur video!
@@BenPoulet yes, similar to sockeye flipping however we will get a break from the fly rod in most cases and have an opportunity to cast spinners and spoons. Float bobbers and such. Stay tuned and you'll have your video!!!
@@BenPoulet middle August there will be no more red fishing for the most part there will be reds but they'll be colored up too much. The early silver run for the Kenai usually starts kicking in around the second week and I think it peaks toward the end of August, and I believe September October is when the second run starts which is the larger run for Silvers.
The Russian is a fun trip just because… most of the fish are upstream anyways so you may find easier success. The kenai has cooled off dramatically in the last 72 hrs. The kasilof is hit or miss even on the biggest run days and I’d suggest floating the upper portion if that’s available to you.
@@alaskasmallcraftadventures Thanks, Just waiting in Seattle at the airport trying to get out soon. I think we will try out the hike you have (2 miles) to the log hole. Sockeye fishing is my favorite to eat as well as catch. Maybe I’ll see you on the bike ripping around town.
My brothers and I are going to Russell fishing. They were recommended to us by my old teacher who travel the world fishing. They’ve been great so and and they have different prices
Any lodge down East Redoubt or Funny river will put you North of the Soldotna bridge and target a narrower part of the river. I’ve been running up and down the river looking for fish, and the majority of them are North of the bridge already. Just in case you weren’t aware. I thought this may help you decide where to stay if you plan to come late season.
Those fish will make you work in between those tides! Theres more coming so rest up and get back out there!! I like that you're taking advantage of this good weather!!! Early morning session, nice!
That’s the truth! Some of those spots require you to stand offshore 10ft and the fish go right behind you. You can sometimes even see fins right up to the riverbank.
Went to Centennial yesterday too. Lost 2 that’s it. Hopefully we’ll get some today!

There was a day last week when they fish were slipping hooks for everyone up at Izaak Walton Campground too.

Hey, save me a few Ryan.....headed back down on Tuesday. Hoping to catch the next flow in. I need 5 more for winter. Good luck man.
Oh I bet there’s 5 coming in with your name on ‘em!
Just watched the video. I was fishing at the up river at the civic center.
Nice! The fish will be coming through soon! Thanks for the support 🎣
Hoping to fish salmon one of these days. In your opinon, pound for pound, which salmon species is the hardest fighting salmon?

There's a few more in there this week. Lot's of work tryin to get that 6 count though!
Great video again! Do you think there will still be some good fishing opportunities late August to mid September?

Arriving in a few hours, where would you go on the Kenai now? Or should we try the Russian? Kasilof?

Can you recommend a private lodge that has a private beach on the Kenai River for sockeye fishing? I'm thinking about 2023. Thank you.

Wassup Ryan jus got home from Centennial park pretty slow got 3 sockeye

We fish together one these day braddah Ryan🤙🏽🤙🏽
The run will be good until the end of the second week in August. A lot less people fishing in August
Agreed, looks like bait may open mid August as well for some real fishing.
They ain’t gone!!
You know that I know that you know!
Slaughtered them last week , there huge this year big bulls
Some of the biggest I’ve seen in a long time! No joke with a few of those on the fly rod.
T-20 hrs. Like to see those numbers staying high.
I’m seeing good numbers up river, mostly above the Soldotna bridge but Centennial is still doing fair.
Combat fishing!
That aint no joke!!! Banks are lined with people! The mouth of the river looks like that too but with dipnetters!
Elbow to elbow… that’s tough….
Today, you'll likely catch more people than sockeye! Tough indeed!
If you are in over your knees the fish are behind you.
