Haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but the water being ~13,000 years old is a VERY nice touch for people into geology and ancient human cultures. That was an EXTREMELY significant time for human beings, and we know very little about what specifically caused the chaos of that period. Lots of extinction, and very dramatic rises in coast lines in a comparatively short period of time. If something similar happened now, it would shut down this civilization entirely. I paused so quick, then paced the room. This needs to be a series, and I haven’t even finished the video.
Nicely read! I once nearly took a job in Antarctica as a heavy equipment operator through a contractor on a project for the national science foundation. The land has always interested me and I've wondered sometimes what could really be alive in those lakes. Interesting story. Well done all around.
Wow! Well done! I was listening with my eyes closed, sitting in bed when the...to avoid spoilers... super intense moment in the story happened, my dog decided it was time for my first heart attack and jumped onto my stomach. Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons and its ice covered surface, is so interesting as is considered the most likely place to discover other life forms in our solar system. “It has a very thin atmosphere composed primarily of Oxygen”, according to Google. Google is fun.
Northern Lights I love the Thing. Incredibly well done and still stands out as an excellent terror inducing horror, despite the age of the special effects.
Fun fact: the American research station in Antarctica plays The Thing on a projector every year just before the first winter storm strands them there for the season. It's been tradition since the movie first came out on VHS.
Okay, I'm no expert here, but I am pretty sure that when you pressurise water like this, you don't stop it from freezing, you turn it into ice, regardless of ambient temperature. Also, if your plan is to study potential life in the water, pressurising it might not be the best idea, as that is an excellent way of killing things. Also, for those interested, the knocking is morse code. "Why did you let it out" is what it says.
Water is unusual. Increasing pressure causes freezing point depression rather than increase as what happens with most substances. Check out the phase diagram at bit.ly/35Id7x4. Increasing the pressure on water will require a lower temperature to freeze than it would at lower pressure. The indicator that water is different is in the slope of the vertical line in that diagram. The slope is negative rather than positive. Water's molar volume also increases on freezing as a result of the large structural change that happens in which the crystal structure aligns the molecules in a very open pattern.
I waited a while to listen to this and like always you didn't disappoint. Love the ancient/alien monster storys especially when eo much care is put into them!
What was the barefoot human looking thing then, and what made 2 massive dents in the sleeping quarters wall? Cool about the centipide looking thing, Cool story, just a bit confused. And thanks to the people that gave the morsecode translation. It really helps put it together.
Bro, I love this so much. I’ve always wanted to visit Antarctica as a scientist, tho I would never want to be left alone out there, especially with my levels of anxiety Also thank you to the person in the comments who translated the Morse code (I freakin knew it was Morse code as soon as they said it seemed to have a pattern to it), my Morse code is very limited and honestly I’m far too lazy to try to translate it myself, especially at this hour
This is the exact reason I'm worried about global warming melting ice that's been frozen forever and releasing a disease or illness that wipes us all out.
And even if it did during earlier ages the oxygen content was at a much higher percentage than it is now in any place no matter how remote. Thus giving way to the ability to give oxygen to lager animals

Northern Lights I love the Thing. Incredibly well done and still stands out as an excellent terror inducing horror, despite the age of the special effects.
Well, there could be a very small chance we could find fossilized life on mars such as bacteria or even complex life if we are lucky.
Fun fact: the American research station in Antarctica plays The Thing on a projector every year just before the first winter storm strands them there for the season. It's been tradition since the movie first came out on VHS.
Three weeks alone in Antarctica? Gee! Sounds like heaven, really.
I'd be loving it!
Best narrator on UA-cam. Keep it up
aww thank you :)
The Dark Somnium fr fr. You and mr creeps are my favs
This was like one of the best X-Files!
My first thought was "is this a story set in the same universe as The Thing or is it based on that episode of The X Files?"
i watch these during work it makes the time go by so fast
Wondering who did the knock?
I waited a while to listen to this and like always you didn't disappoint. Love the ancient/alien monster storys especially when eo much care is put into them!
So what was the deal with the humanoid and the banging outside the base? I don’t get that part.
humanoid - mc is hallucinating / seeing the monster
banging - morse code that reads WHY DID YOU LET IT OUT
Thank you Somnium, Very Cool!!!
What was the barefoot human looking thing then, and what made 2 massive dents in the sleeping quarters wall? Cool about the centipide looking thing, Cool story, just a bit confused. And thanks to the people that gave the morsecode translation. It really helps put it together.
I’m listening to this while doing work and studying for finals, I’m alone and this is scaring the hell out of me
Bro, I love this so much. I’ve always wanted to visit Antarctica as a scientist, tho I would never want to be left alone out there, especially with my levels of anxiety
Also thank you to the person in the comments who translated the Morse code (I freakin knew it was Morse code as soon as they said it seemed to have a pattern to it), my Morse code is very limited and honestly I’m far too lazy to try to translate it myself, especially at this hour
Love your narrations, dam that thumbnail picture gets me every time when I come back to listen to this story lol.
This is the exact reason I'm worried about global warming melting ice that's been frozen forever and releasing a disease or illness that wipes us all out.
Comments like this remind me why women aren't more involved in STEM.
Why's that? Viruses are very specific in what they can infect.
Already happening bud
It would take a very long time to melt all of antarctica
Great job man, really enjoy listening to your work.
Antarctica is actually considered a desert 🐫
The word is *Tundra*
@@Jared_Logan no desert dummy
Pretty sure Antarctica is a tundra because it's a icey wastland NOT a sunny death zone where the sun is a *literal death Lazer during summer.*
@@Jared_Logan no tundra are in Russia and Alaska
@@Jared_Logan Antarctica is a cold desert
Love your narration😃
thank you brad!!:)
Get out my yard grrr!
I learn words give i time yes!
Get better talk soon and i like YouTUBE! talk soon.... lonely in snow need friend for brush hair play games, yes
Yesss you got your wifi working!
This keeps me sane while working from home during the quarantine 😁
The thumbnail looks like somthing from dark souls 3
This video earned my like
All water has an oxygen content high enough to support life...
That’s not true actually...
And even if it did during earlier ages the oxygen content was at a much higher percentage than it is now in any place no matter how remote. Thus giving way to the ability to give oxygen to lager animals
Oxygen is soluble in water at the level required. Whether any water contains enough is circumstantial.
So much for my vacation to Antarctica. My doctor said to avoid extreme cold and thousand year old monsters.
